Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper reports a study concerning the identification of compounds with potential therapeutic uses from sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) fruits and their modulation by nitric oxide (NO). The paper is interesting and, in my opinion, well carried out.

Only few remarks:

  • line 85: the term secondary metabolite is no longer accepted; please replace "secondary" with "specialized"
  • Did the authors evaluate the possibility to confirm some identification by analyzing the standards (of course if available)

Author Response

Many thanks for the reviewer's comment. Please find below the reply the the queries:

  • line 85: the term secondary metabolite is no longer accepted; please replace "secondary" with "specialized"

Thanks. It was changed.

  • Did the authors evaluate the possibility to confirm some identification by analyzing the standards (of course if available)

This is a good point. We are working on it for our next work, which is targeted to the characterization of these compound from our plant material, once they have been enriched and partially purified after sample fractionation. Because some of the described compounds are not still available as standards, we decided  to postpone such work. Thanks for the comment.
