Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Global banking and financial systems are under increasing pressure due to a range of emerging risks that challenge both traditional financial models and contemporary regulatory frameworks. As the world becomes more interconnected, financial institutions are increasingly exposed to evolving risks, such as geopolitical tension, fintech, artificial intelligence, machine learning, climate risk, etc. These emerging threats create new vulnerabilities for financial systems worldwide.
This Special Issue of Risks seeks to explore the nature of these emerging risks in banking and financial systems. We invite submissions from academics, researchers, policymakers and industry experts that provide novel insights into how these risks are shaping the future of finance, how institutions can adapt, and how the financial regulation could tackle these challenges. We welcome submissions on (but not limited to) the following topics.
Key Topics of Interest:
- Geopolitical Conflicts and Financial Stability: Geopolitical conflicts, including trade wars, regional conflicts and global power shifts.
- FinTech and the Transformation of Banking: Digital currencies, decentralized finance (DeFi) and fintech innovations.
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Finance: Risks originating from algorithmic biases, lack of transparency and vulnerability to cyberattacks.
- Climate Risk and Sustainable Finance: Climate-related risks—both physical and transitional—as well as the role of sustainable finance in mitigating these risks.
- Regulatory and Policy Responses to Emerging Risks: How regulators are adapting to these new threats and the effectiveness of regulatory frameworks in managing emerging risks in banking and finance.
We invite both theoretical and empirical papers, as well as case studies and policy analyses, that address the above themes. Submissions should provide a rigorous examination of emerging risks and offer insights that can inform policy, practice and future research.
