Background/Objectives: The Internet of Things (IoT), integrated with application software, has increasingly been used to support health management through monitoring indicators like physical activity, sleep, and heart rate, in pregnant and postpartum women. However, limited evidence exists regarding its effectiveness in improving health outcomes for pregnant and postpartum women. The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate and synthesize the role of IoT in enhancing the health outcomes of pregnant and postpartum women. Methods: A systematic search was conducted on 13 February 2023, across CENTRAL, CINAHL, ClinicalTrials.gov, Embase, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, PubMed, and WHO ICTRP to identify all randomized controlled trials. Studies were included if they involved pregnant or postpartum women in high-income countries and used sensor-based data collection via smartphones or wearable devices. Two reviewers independently selected the studies, extracted data, and assessed the risk of bias using the Cochrane Collaboration’s risk of bias assessment tool 2.0. We performed a pairwise meta-analysis using a random effects model. The findings were reported according to PRISMA guidelines. Results: Seven studies with 1638 pregnant and postpartum women were included in this review. Of the seven included studies, half targeted women with gestational diabetes and the other half targeted obese women. A meta-analysis revealed that IoT interventions may reduce gestational weight gain in women with obesity with a mean difference of −3.35 kg (95% confidence interval (CI): −5.23 to−1.46; I2 = 36%; two studies; 242 women; moderate certainty of evidence). Conclusions: This review suggested that IoT interventions may limit gestational weight gain in pregnant women with obesity. Future studies should evaluate the long-term effects of IoT-based interventions on maternal and neonatal health outcomes. Full article

This paper addresses the core issues of slow coverage rate growth and high repeated detection rates in multi-UAV cooperative search operations within unknown areas. A distributed cooperative search algorithm based on the maximum entropy mechanism is proposed to resolve these challenges. It innovatively integrates the entropy gradient decision framework with DMPC-OODA (Distributed Model Predictive Control-Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) rolling optimization: environmental uncertainty is quantified through an exponential decay entropy model to drive UAVs to migrate toward high-entropy regions; element-wise product operations are employed to efficiently update environmental maps; and a dynamic weight function is designed to adaptively adjust the weights of coverage gain and entropy gain, thereby balancing “rapid coverage” and “accurate exploration”. Through multiple independent repeated experiments, the algorithm demonstrates significant improvements in coverage efficiency—by 6.95%, 12.22%, and 59.49%, respectively—compared with the Search Intent Interaction (SII) mode, non-entropy mode, and random mode, which effectively enhances resource utilization. At present, there are some challenging issues for diamond electroplating devices, such as poor particle–cathode contact uniformity, low conductivity, inefficient deposition, and complex disassembly/cleaning process of the device. To overcome these issues, an ultrasonic oscillation-assisted nickel electroplating device is innovatively designed and presented in this paper. The device features: (1) innovative architecture enabling rapid disassembly; (2) ultrasonic enhancement of diamond particle mobility (frequency × amplitude); (3) optimized electrical contact interfaces. In this paper, the effects of electroplating current, output power of ultrasonic oscillator and diamond particle size on nickel electroplating onto diamond surface are further studied particularly by ultrasonic assisted electroplating. The experimental results show that the ultrasonic oscillation assisted electroplating greatly improves the uniformity of the coating on the diamond surface and effectively prevents the adhesion between diamond particles. While the process parameters are electroplating current of 3 A, output power of ultrasonic oscillator 900 W, diamond particle size of 120/140, the weight-gain rate is 20.6%, the nickel content of the coating reaches 81.95%, and the coating is excellent uniformed without agglomeration. The research presented provides fundamental understanding for further development and application of ultrasonic oscillation-assisted electroplating technology particularly for broad precision engineering purposes. Mannan oligosaccharide (MOS), a prebiotic derived from yeast cell walls, has been shown to enhance growth performance and health status in various aquatic species. As an exogenous antigen adjuvant, MOS modulates T-cell-mediated immune responses, thereby improving immune function and suppressing excessive inflammatory reactions. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary MOS supplementation on growth performance, serum biochemical parameters, muscle composition, digestive enzyme activity, antioxidant and immune status, and the mTOR signaling pathway in juvenile GIFT tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Juveniles (initial body weight: 16.17 ± 1.32 g) were randomly assigned to six treatment groups (three replicate tanks per group) and fed diets supplemented with MOS at 0, 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8%, and 1% (equivalent to 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 g/kg of diet, respectively) for 60 days. Compared with the control group, fish fed MOS-supplemented diets exhibited significantly higher (p < 0.05) weight gain rates, specific growth rates, and protein efficiency ratios, along with a significantly lower (p < 0.05) feed conversion ratio. Serum albumin, high-density lipoprotein, and lysozyme levels were significantly increased (p < 0.05), whereas triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein, aspartate aminotransferase, and alanine aminotransferase levels were significantly decreased (p < 0.05). In the liver, head kidney, and spleen, the expression of pro-inflammatory genes (tumor necrosis factor α, interleukin 1β, interleukin 6, interleukin 8, and interferon γ) was significantly downregulated (p < 0.05), while the expression of antioxidant and protective genes (superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione S-transferase, nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2, lysozyme, alkaline phosphatase, interleukin-10, transforming growth factor β, and heat shock protein 70) as well as mTOR signaling pathway-related genes (mammalian target of rapamycin, akt protein kinase B, phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase, and ribosomal protein S6 kinase polypeptide 1) was significantly upregulated (p < 0.05). Overall, MOS positively affects tilapia’s growth, health, and immunity, with 0.60% identified as the optimal dietary level based on growth performance. Full article

The spontaneous combustion of sulfide ores (SOSC) is an extremely dangerous mining disaster that directly threatens safety production in mines and causes far-reaching negative impacts on the surrounding ecosystem. In this study, oxidation weight gain experiments, self-heating temperature and ignition temperature tests, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were conducted to detect the spontaneous combustion characteristics of sulfide ores with different sulfur contents (40.29%, 34.56%, 24.81%, and 14.2%). The results show that the sulfur content significantly affects the spontaneous combustion characteristics of sulfide ores. As the sulfur content decreased, the oxidized weight gain rate decreased overall, and the self-heating temperature (135, 152.5, 162.5, and 176.9 °C) and ignition temperature (425.3, 438.6, 455.4, and >500 °C) increased. The three combustion stages of the SOSC were divided based on the TG and DTG curves: low-temperature oxidation stage, combustion decomposition stage, and slow burnout stage. Furthermore, KAS and FWO methods were used to obtain the apparent activation energy in the combustion decomposition stage. The apparent activation energy decreased significantly with the increase in the sulfur content. The results of all experiments and analyses showed that sulfide ores with high sulfur content have a stronger tendency to undergo spontaneous combustion. The research results have important theoretical and practical implications for the prevention of SOSC. Full article

This study developed a simple genetic algorithm (SGA) enhanced by a random forest (RF) surrogate model, namely SGARF, to solve the permutation flow-shop scheduling problem with order acceptance under the conditions of limited capacity, weighted-tardiness, and past-sequence-dependent (PSD) setup times (PFSS-OAWT with PSD). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to investigate this problem. Our proposed algorithm increases the setup time for each successive job by a constant proportion of the cumulative processing time of preceding jobs to capture the progressive slowdown that often occurs on real production lines. In the developed algorithm with maximum 105 fitness evaluations, the RF surrogate model predicts objective function values and guides crossover and mutation. On the PFSS-OAWT with PSD benchmark (up to 500 orders and 20 machines, 160 instances), SGARF represents improvements of 0.9% over SGA, 0.8% over SGALS, and 5.6% over SABPO. Although the surrogate incurs additional runtime, the gains in both profit and order-acceptance rates justify its use for high-margin, offline planning. Overall, the results of this study suggest that integrating evolutionary search into data-driven prediction is an effective strategy for solving complex capacity-constrained scheduling problems. Utilizing paste feed within a recirculating aquaculture system for eel cultivation may lead to various challenges, such as water quality degradation and, hence, transitioning to floating pellet type feed becomes essential. In this study, we aimed to investigate the impact of different feed types (paste and floating extruded pellet) and rearing systems (recirculating aquaculture and flow through system) on water quality, growth, blood chemistry, body composition, and expression levels of digestive enzymes in Japanese eels (Anguilla japonica). Throughout the experiment, notable variations were observed in total ammonia nitrogen and nitrite nitrogen levels, with higher concentrations in the recirculating aquaculture system (1.00 ± 0.64 and 0.757 ± 0.464 mg/L, respectively) than paste groups (0.859 ± 0.651 and 0.485 ± 0.502 mg/L, respectively). Significant differences were observed in weight gain and specific growth rates, with the pellet group (154 ± 10% and 1.50 ± 0.06%/day, respectively) exhibiting higher values than the paste group (135 ± 13% and 1.37 ± 0.09%/day, respectively). Blood parameters showed significant differences depending on the culture system, with generally higher values observed in the flow-through system, while no significant differences were observed between feed types. Whole-body composition exhibited variations attributed to feed intake, with notable differences in crude protein and crude fat content among the experimental groups. The expression levels of digestive enzymes and nutrient transporters were higher when the eels were fed pellet-type feed and reared in recirculating aquaculture system. The study findings indicate that pellet feed enhances water quality management in RAS, leading to improved eel growth. Given its lower environmental stress, pellet feed is preferable to paste feed for optimizing eel production in RAS. Full article

Despite its value as a culinary, medicinal, and essential oil crop, caraway struggles to grow and develop its biochemical quality in drought-prone sandy soils. To tackle this challenge, we conducted two field trials under drip irrigation, testing four rates of organic manure (0, 5, 10, and 15 ton/hectare (ha) and three foliar biostimulants: vitamin B1 (50 and 100 mg L−1), vitamin E (50 and 100 mg L−1), and active yeast (100 and 150 mL L−1). We used a randomized split-plot design with three replicates, assigning manure rates to main plots and biostimulants to subplots. We measured plant height, stem diameter, branch number, dry biomass, umbels per plant, 1000-seed weight, seed yield (per plant and per ha), essential oil content, chlorophyll a and b, carotenoids, and leaf N, P, and K. All treatments outperformed the unfertilized control. Applying 15 ton/ha of manure alone increased mean plant height by 185.3 cm, stem diameter by 2.93 mm, branch number by 14.5, and herbal weight by 91.97 g across both seasons—a gain of about 11–15%. Foliar application of vitamin B1 at 100 mg L−1 (without manure) achieved even larger gains: mean plant height improved by 176.5 cm, stem diameter by 2.6 mm, branches number by 15.1, and herbal biomass by 103.95 g (20–36% growth increases). It also boosted essential oil yield by 1.89 mL per plant (16–50%) and enhanced nutrient uptake. The most pronounced synergy emerged when combining 15 ton/ha of manure with 100 mg L−1 vitamin B1, raising seed yield to 1698.8 kg/ha (35%), plant height to 184.7 cm (52%), number of branches to 17.4 per plant (56%), umbels to 38.1 per plant (42%), 1000-seed weight to 16.9 g (48%), and essential oil yield to 2.3 mL per plant (115%), compared to the control. Chlorophyll a increased by 50%, chlorophyll b by 33%, carotenoids by 35%, and leaf N, P, and K by 43%, 90%, and 76%, respectively. Manure combined with vitamin E or yeast delivered moderate improvements. These findings demonstrate that integrating organic manure with targeted foliar biostimulants—especially vitamin B1—under drip irrigation, is a sustainable strategy to maximize caraway yield, oil content, and nutritional quality on marginal sandy soils. This article reviews and synthesizes highlights of the history of neural models of rate-based and spiking neural networks. It explains that theoretical and experimental results about how all rate-based neural network models, whose cells obey the membrane equations of neurophysiology, also called shunting laws, can be converted into spiking neural network models without any loss of explanatory power, and often with gains in explanatory power. These results are relevant to all the main brain processes, including individual neurons and networks for perception, learning, cognition, and navigation. The results build upon the hypothesis that the functional units of brain processes are spatial patterns of cell activities, or short-term-memory (STM) traces, and spatial patterns of learned adaptive weights, or long-term-memory (LTM) patterns. It is also shown how spatial patterns that are learned by spiking neurons during childhood can be preserved even as the child’s brain grows and deforms while it develops towards adulthood. Indeed, this property of spatiotemporal self-similarity may be one of the most powerful properties that individual spiking neurons contribute to the development of large-scale neural networks and architectures throughout life. Background/Objectives: Secular trends in children’s physical development are important indicators of population health, nutritional status, and socioeconomic conditions. This study aimed to assess long-term changes in the height, weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), and nutritional status of boys from Eastern Poland between 1986 and 2021. Methods: Anthropometric data were collected from 13,172 boys aged 8, 13, and 17 years at five time points (1986, 1996, 2006, 2016, and 2021). Standardized measurement protocols were used throughout the study. The BMI was calculated and categorized using international cut-off points for age and gender. Secular changes in the height, weight, and Body Mass Index (BMI) were analyzed using an analysis of variance (ANOVA) with post hoc tests, and differences in dietary categories were assessed using chi-square tests (p ≤ 0.05). Results: The height, weight, and BMI increased significantly across all ages. The largest height gain was seen in 13-year-olds, while the greatest BMI increase occurred between 2016 and 2021. The overweight and obesity prevalence rose sharply by an average of 21.70% across age groups, with the normal BMI prevalence decreasing by 18.41%. The underweight prevalence declined, especially among adolescents; however, this likely reflects a general upward shift in the BMI rather than a true nutritional improvement. Conclusions: Strong secular trends are evident, influenced by global and local socioeconomic factors, including Poland’s EU accession and the COVID-19 pandemic. While an increased height suggests better living standards, the rising overweight and obesity rates indicate emerging health risks. Due to the lack of direct lifestyle and socioeconomic data, further research incorporating these factors and the pubertal BMI variability is needed to clarify underlying causes. Targeted regional strategies promoting healthy diets, physical activity, and lifestyles are urgently required. Full article

This research assessed the efficacy of glutamate (Glu) supplementation to feed in counteracting growth restriction and intestinal stress-induced injury in juvenile groupers (Epinephelus coioides; initial weight 15.11 ± 0.03 g). The study comprised five isonitrogenous and iso-lipidic diets: a fish-meal-based (FM) diet, a soya-meal-based (SBM) diet, and SBM diets containing varying Glu levels of 1.0% (G-1), 2.0% (G-2), or 3.0% (G-3). The trial employed a randomized design with five treatment groups. Each group was housed in triplicate aquariums and received assigned diets for 56 consecutive days. Supplementation with Glu resulted in dose-dependent enhancements in weight gain, specific growth rate, serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, intestinal superoxide dismutase activity, digestive enzyme activity (trypsin, lipase, amylase), amino acid metabolic enzyme activity (glutaminase, GLS; glutamine synthetase), and intestinal mRNA levels of GLS, IL-10, and TGF-β1. Maximal values of the G-3 diet were restored to the levels of the FM diet (p > 0.05). Serum total cholesterol, intestinal total antioxidant capacity, and catalase activity followed a similar increasing trend with Glu level, attaining maxima in diet G-3, yet these values remained markedly lower than those of the FM diet (p < 0.05). Conversely, intestinal malondialdehyde content and mRNA levels of genes IL-8, IL-12, IL-1β, and TNF-α exhibited a significant dose-dependent decrease, reaching minimal levels in diet G-3 that were restored to the levels of the FM diet (p > 0.05). The results above demonstrate that Glu addition enhances nutritional status and intestinal structural integrity by augmenting antioxidant and digestive capacity and mitigating inflammatory responses, consequently enhancing growth performance and intestinal health. The present study was conducted to evaluate the individual and combined effects of dietary crude protein levels and magnetic water treatment on the growth performance, water quality, body composition, physiological responses, and immunity of Oreochromis niloticus. Using a 3 × 2 factorial design, three levels of dietary crude protein (25%, 30%, and 35%) and two water types (magnetized and non-magnetized) were tested. A total of 180 juvenile tilapia (average initial weight: 4.13 ± 0.004 g) were randomly assigned to six treatment groups and reared for 10 weeks. Results showed that magnetic water treatment significantly improved dissolved oxygen and pH, while reducing ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate concentrations. Growth performance indicators, including final weight, specific growth rate, feed conversion ratio, and average daily gain, were significantly improved by both magnetic water and increased dietary protein. Carcass crude protein content improved with both the higher dietary protein level and magnetic water, while lipid content decreased. Liver and kidney function indicators (AST, ALT, ALP, and urea) were significantly improved by magnetic treatment and higher protein levels. Blood biochemical markers (TP, ALB, and GLO) were elevated, while glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides were reduced by magnetic water; significant interactions were observed for globulin, triglycerides, and total protein. Antioxidant enzyme activities (SOD, CAT, and GPx) increased, and MDA decreased in response to magnetic water and high-protein diets. Similarly, digestive enzyme activities (lipase, protease, and amylase) and immune parameters (IgM and lysozyme) were significantly improved, with the best values recorded in the 35% protein + magnetic water group. In conclusion, magnetic water treatment and dietary protein level independently and interactively affect the physiological performance and health of Nile tilapia, with the best outcomes obtained at 35% protein under magnetic water conditions. The effects of varying dietary metabolizable energy (ME) and crude protein (CP) levels, along with their interactive effects, on the apparent nutrient metabolism, development of digestive organs, intestinal morphology, and microbiota composition in Jingyuan chickens during the growing phase were evaluated. A total of 540 seven-week-old male Jingyuan chickens were randomly assigned to nine groups, with six replicates per group and 10 chickens per replicate. The trial lasted for 11 weeks. A 3 × 3 factorial design was adopted, comprising three levels of ME, namely, low (11.28 MJ/kg, LE group), medium (11.70 MJ/kg, ME group), and high (12.12 MJ/kg, HE group) and three levels of CP, namely, low (14.00%, LP group), medium (15.50%, MP group), and high (17.00%, HP group). The levels of ME and CP, along with their interactions, had significant effects on the average daily gain (ADG), average daily feed intake, feed conversion ratio (FCR), apparent metabolizable rate of CP, gizzard weight, duodenal lengths, jejunal villus height (VH), crypt depth (CD), and muscle layer thickness (MLT) (p < 0.05). The combination of medium level ME (11.70 MJ/kg) and medium level CP (15.50%) (MEMP group) exhibited the best performance, with the highest ADG and the lowest FCR (p < 0.05). Moreover, this group showed significantly higher duodenal length, jejunal CD, VH/CD and MLT compared with the other groups (p < 0.05). Dietary ME and CP levels greatly influenced cecal microbiota composition. Chickens in the MEMP group exhibited an increased abundance of Erysipelotrichaceae, Syntrophomonadaceae, Akkermansia, and Clostridia_vadinBB60_group, and there was an obvious decrease in the relative abundance of Desulfobacterota (p < 0.05). This study demonstrated that dietary ME and CP levels, along with their interactions, could significantly influence the growth performance, apparent nutrient metabolism, and intestinal development of Jingyuan chickens during the growing phase. Dietary ME and CP levels modulated the cecal microbiota composition, potentially inhibiting the abundance of harmful bacteria Desulfobacterota, while enriching the abundance of beneficial bacteria, thereby enhancing gut development and nutrient absorption. The combination of medium-level ME and CP (11.70 MJ/kg ME, 15.50% CP) demonstrated the most favorable outcomes in our study. Full article

The use of long-acting cabotegravir and rilpivirine (LA CAB/RPV) is a novel approach to manage human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This injectable regimen offers benefits such as an improved quality of life, reduced stigma and enhanced treatment satisfaction by minimising the need for daily medication adherence. This review summarises the findings of clinical trials and real-world studies on the safety, tolerability and metabolic effects of LA CAB/RPV, which are areas that have received less extensive coverage in previous reviews. Clinical trial data suggest that LA CAB/RPV is generally safe and well tolerated. The most common side effects were injection site reactions, affecting 70–97% of participants. However, these were typically mild and short lived, rarely leading to treatment discontinuation in fewer than 2–3% of cases. Systemic side effects were minimal and comparable to those observed with traditional oral antiretroviral therapy. Real-world studies corroborated these findings, reporting low discontinuation rates due to adverse events. Regarding metabolic impact, clinical trials showed minimal weight gain (an average increase of 1–2 kg over 48–96 weeks) with no significant differences or impact on lipid and glucose levels. Although real-world data are still emerging, they suggest similar trends, including a possible improvement in lipid profiles. Overall, LA CAB/RPV appears to be a safe, well-tolerated and effective treatment option, although longer-term follow-up is needed. Full article

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a major inhibitory neurotransmitter, is used as a feed additive in aquaculture. However, its effects on muscle quality and lipid metabolism in fish remain understudied. Therefore, three diets supplemented with 0%, 0.01%, and 0.10% GABA were fed to juvenile Acanthopagrus latus (initial weight: 9.96 g) for 9 weeks, followed by analyses of growth performance, muscle quality indices, and hepatic lipid profiles. Fish fed 0.01% GABA showed the highest weight gain rate (p < 0.05). Their muscles exhibited improved muscle texture, higher levels of essential/non-essential and flavor amino acids, and a higher proportion of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFAs), including docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), along with triglycerides and cardiolipin enriched in LC-PUFA chains (p < 0.05). Moreover, their livers demonstrated increased levels of triglycerides, phosphatidylethanolamine, and LC-PUFA, along with reduced levels of phosphatidylcholine, lysophosphatidylcholine, lysophosphatidylethanolamine, and phosphatidylserine (p < 0.05). These results suggest that 0.01% GABA supplementation improves growth performance, enhances flesh quality, and optimizes liver lipid profiles in A. latus. Full article
