Middle leaders are acknowledged as important leaders within schools to support and improve teaching and learning. While middle leaders’ (MLs) knowledge and skills are foundational for contributing to school improvement, social emotional intelligence (SEI) has been identified as a crucial capability for developing and maintaining trusting relationships and collaborative teams, both of which are essential for leading school improvement, a central focus of ML work. To understand the empirical evidence base on MLs and SEI, a scoping literature review was conducted. Although empirical research was limited, SEI consistently emerged as a critical factor influencing a range of middle leadership (ML) outcomes. To extend the review findings, a problem-centered interview approach was undertaken with five MLs. The interviews sought to identify the SEI competencies perceived as supportive of ML practices and positive outcomes for both MLs and colleagues. Insights from the literature review and interviews converged to highlight empathy and emotional self-management as foundational SEI competencies. Both competencies were found to underpin several key leadership outcomes, including the regulation of emotions, both personal and interpersonal, for the development of collegial relationships, and the enhancement of ML wellbeing. Considering these findings, professional learning (PL) to foster ML SEI competencies is presented. Full article

Under intensified downward economic pressures on the economy, technological innovation is playing a pivotal role in the development of Chinese enterprises. Employees’ psychological safety significantly influences their innovative behaviors, as a climate of psychological safety fosters greater willingness among staff to engage in voice behaviors. Guanxi with a team leader may decrease this effect. This study analyzed survey data from 263 employees of China’s private manufacturing enterprises to explore the moderating role of guanxi with a team leader in the relationship between psychological safety climate and voice behavior. Results showed that psychological safety climate was positively correlated with promotive and prohibitive voices, and employees with a higher psychological safety climate were more likely to develop voice behavior. Guanxi with team leaders negatively moderated the relationship between psychological safety climate and promotive and prohibitive voices, and the association between psychological safety climate and promotive and prohibitive voices was strong when guanxi with a team leader was weak. This study expands the scope of the application of guanxi, with team leaders as a moderating variable. It helps leaders focus on the psychological safety climate of employees, maintain harmonious and friendly interpersonal relationships with employees, enable employees to spontaneously contribute to the development of the organization, and enhance cohesion in the organization. Due to globalization, companies are exposed to a culturally diversified workforce; therefore, great emphasis is placed on identifying the most effective leadership style that would be able to manage such a workforce. Although numerous studies have attempted to identify successful leadership styles in different cultural settings, none have focused on the perceptions of top managers who work in multinational corporations (MNCs) in culturally diversified surroundings. Thus, our research attempts to identify the most preferred leadership style and characteristics from the perspective of top managers in MNCs in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The 13 leadership characteristics analyzed in this study were generated from the 21 characteristics found by Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE) research. The participants, top managers in MNCs, needed to evaluate leadership styles by considering leadership characteristics. To ensure the objectiveness of the study, we analyzed their answers by applying the Fuzzy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method. The results indicated that the most preferred leadership characteristics were visionary, inspirational, collaborative team-oriented, and performance-oriented. Moreover, the transformational leadership style emerged as the most preferred leadership style. The study’s findings show that top managers believe that employees in MNCs in the UAE seek a leader with a vision who will inspire, motivate, and help them fulfill their true potential. Full article

Background/Objectives: Effective teamwork is crucial for minimizing human error in healthcare settings. Medical teams, typically composed of physicians and nurses, supported by auxiliary professionals, achieve better outcomes when they possess strong collaborative competencies. High-quality teamwork is associated with fewer adverse events and complications and lower mortality rates. Based on this background, the objective of this study is to analyze the perception of non-technical skills and immediate learning outcomes in interprofessional simulation settings based on E-CRM items. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted involving participants from the official postgraduate Medicine and Nursing programs at the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) during the 2024–2025 academic year. Four interprofessional E-CRM simulation sessions were planned, involving randomly assigned groups with proportional representation of medical and nursing students. Teams worked consistently throughout the training and participated in clinical scenarios observed via video transmission by their peers. Post-scenario debriefings followed INACSL guidelines and employed the PEARLS method. Results: Findings indicate that 48.3% of participants had no difficulty identifying the team leader, while 51.7% reported minor difficulty. Role assignment posed moderate-to-high difficulty for 24.1% of respondents. Communication, situation awareness, and early help-seeking were generally managed with ease, though mobilizing resources remained a challenge for 27.5% of participants. Conclusions: This study supports the value of interprofessional education in developing essential competencies for handling urgent, emergency, and high-complexity clinical situations. Strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration contributes to safer, more effective patient care. Full article

Paraprofessionals play a crucial role in supporting both teachers and students within a classroom, even though the specifics of their duties vary. While their responsibilities involve supporting student achievement, research has shed light that many paraprofessionals feel unprepared for their responsibilities in the classroom. This study aimed to address a gap in the existing literature by exploring how a professional development program that mirrors the trainings special education teachers receive would impact paraprofessionals and help them feel more prepared for their responsibilities in the classroom. Employing a generic qualitative methodology, this study sought to capture the experiences of 43 paraprofessionals. Data collection involved an online open-ended questionnaire at the start and conclusion of the school year. The study’s outcomes revealed five patterns in the data: (a) paraprofessionals struggled with collaborating with classroom teams at the start of the school year, (b) paraprofessionals struggled with managing student behavior at the start of the school year, (c) professional development was helpful to most of the paraprofessionals, (d) professional development led to better preparedness to address challenging behavior, and (e) professional development led to better preparedness to address the instructional needs of students with disabilities. Following a thorough analysis and synthesis, these patterns were condensed into two general themes: the importance of professional development for paraprofessionals and the importance of presenting the professional development that teachers receive on a continuous basis to paraprofessionals as well. These findings are significant for school leaders and educators, as they highlight the importance of providing professional development to paraprofessionals while supporting students with disabilities. This paper explores the complex power dynamics of UK social work higher education through an autoethnographic account of a Black woman course leader’s experiences over a period of two years, focusing on issues related to race, internalized oppression, and class. Drawing on Critical Race Theory (CRT), narrative analysis, and lived experience, it examines how systemic inequities manifest through three interlinked themes: (a) academic contrapower harassment (ACPH), (b) internalized oppression and toxic team dynamics, and (c) the interplay of harassment, institutional failure, managerial inaction, and the marginalization of social work as a discipline. This study illustrates how the intersectionality of multiple identities—namely, race, gender, and professional identity—impacts career progression, well-being, and institutional inclusion. This study examines the tensions between social work’s ethical foundations and performance-driven academic environments, advocating for systemic and policy interventions to stimulate institutional reform and cultivate a more equitable culture that enhances educational outcomes and, ultimately, improves social work practice. This article describes the design and implementation of a Specialized Mental Health Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program for clergy and theological students of all spiritual, religious, and cultural backgrounds. Addressing the need for mental health competencies in religious leaders and chaplains, this training equips participants with specialized skills in individual and group mental health spiritual assessment and spiritual care. Program participants become effective members of a multiprofessional team, gain knowledge of mental health philosophies of concordant and discordant spiritual orienting systems, and gain greater relational capacity. The Mental Health CPE Program includes traditional and novel CPE elements: (1) clinical practice, (2) group and individual supervision, (3) didactic presentations and journal clubs, (4) verbatim (Protocols of patient encounters) and case presentations, (5) group leadership training and practica, and (6) experience of faith reflections. This article provides insights into the origins of CPE, a description of the implementation in a free-standing psychiatric hospital, and observed developmental changes of program participants. We include graduates’ anecdotal feedback about their learning experience and its impact on their leadership in chaplaincy and in religious communities. Additionally, we report on areas for future development and further study of the effectiveness of Mental Health CPE. Full article

As organizations become increasingly projectified, safeguarding the resilience of project professionals and teams emerges as a critical organizational challenge. Adopting a systems lens, we investigate how agile mindsets and agile practices function as systemic antecedents of resilience at the individual and team levels. Eleven semi-structured interviews with experienced project managers, product owners, and team members from diverse industries were analyzed through inductive thematic coding and system mapping. The findings show that mindset supplies psychological resources—self-efficacy, openness and a learning orientation—while practices such as team autonomy, iterative delivery and transparent communication provide structural routines; together they trigger five interlocking mechanisms: empowerment, fast responsiveness, holistic team dynamics, stakeholder-ecosystem engagement and continuous learning. These mechanisms reinforce one another in feedback loops that boost a project system’s adaptive capacity under volatility. The synergy of mindset and practices is especially valuable in hybrid or traditionally governed projects, where cognitive agility offsets structural rigidity. This study offers the first multi-level, systems-based explanation of agile antecedents of resilience and delivers actionable levers for executives, transformation leaders, project professionals, and HR specialists aiming to sustain talent performance in turbulent contexts. This study examines the impact of AI adoption orientation on innovation performance in multinational corporations (MNCs), emphasizing team innovativeness as an intervening mechanism and technology orientation as a moderating factor. Using data from 410 respondents collected via a snowball sampling strategy and analyzed through partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), the findings reveal that artificial intelligence (AI) adoption orientation positively influences team innovativeness and innovation performance. Team innovativeness partially mediates this relationship, while technology orientation moderates the link between AI adoption and team innovativeness, underscoring the role of technological preparedness in enhancing innovation. The study contributes to theoretical understanding by integrating team dynamics and technology preparedness in AI-driven innovation. It provides practical insights for managers, policymakers, and organizational leaders on fostering an innovative culture and investing in technology skills to drive MNC competitiveness. Full article

In the context of climate change, it becomes of utmost importance to limit the negative impact of industrial activities on carbon emissions, water stress, biodiversity loss, and natural resources depletion. Whether we consider the situation from a product-centered perspective (life cycle, R&D&I process, tools, methods, design, production, etc.) or from a human-centered perspective (habits, practices, fixation, strategic orientations, emotional sensitivity, etc.), coming years will represent a formidable upheaval for companies. To support this transition, various tools assessing products’ impact have been developed over the past decade. They aim at guiding decision makers, integrating new criteria to assess project success, and promoting the development and industrialization of solutions answering pressing environmental issues. If assessment is a key factor of success, it has become clear that processes and practices also need to evolve for practitioners to properly integrate sustainable requirements from the initial stages of their project. In that context, biomimicry, the approach aimed at taking nature as a model to support the design of more sustainable solutions, has been the center of growing interest. However, no integrated methods exist in the cosmetics sector to assess if a product is properly developed through biomimicry. This missing framework led to difficulties for cosmetic companies to support eco-design through biomimicry. In this article, we present a method called Biomim’Index developed by L’Oréal research and innovation sustainable development team to address three objectives: (i) to characterize cosmetic technologies according to whether they are based on bioinspiration, biomimetics or biomimicry; (ii) to guide the project’s leaders to identify key steps to improve existing cosmetic technologies through biomimicry; and (iii) to support the integration of biomimicry as an operational approach towards the development of new sustainable cosmetic technologies. This method, focusing on the problem-driven biomimetic approach is based on a combination of procedural requirements from the biomimetics TC288 18458:2015 ISO norm and environmental design requirements from L’Oréal for the Future (L4TF) commitments. Results present a proof of concept to outline the method’s efficiency and limits to support innovative eco-designed projects and value cosmetic technologies designed through biomimicry. Full article

Attaining psychosocial health for learners self-identifying as burned out is challenging. Yet, positive psychosocial outcomes are possible. Learner burnout is reducible if learners accept their and others’ rights to self-direct their learning. This acceptance requires a community that demonstrates team mindfulness. Successful self-directed learning with team mindfulness is possible at diverse academic levels and in various public education settings. The author co-founded three such educational initiatives aiming to reduce burnout in learners. To reveal the results, the author assesses the total works published since 2020 regarding these initiatives, using narrative methodology. Some form of consensus decision-making is imperative for team mindfulness—it may take different forms. For these initiatives to succeed online, a participant-trusted facilitator who takes on the role of an authentic leader is necessary. If one is lacking, the participants may achieve positive psychological outcomes but not the positive social consequences of a decision-making method upholding team mindfulness. In working with burned-out learners, positive sociological outcomes are possible when a group focuses on self-directed learning and has a learning-related team mindfulness goal in common. By summarizing the positive psychosocial effects regarding burnout and outlining the difficulties of these publicly supported programs for self-directed learning, future research directions are suggested on this topic. Synergistic Rewards for Proactive Behaviors: A Study on the Differentiated Incentive Mechanism for a New Generation of Knowledge Employees Using Mixed fsQCA and NCA Analysis

In practice, the new generation of knowledge-based employees often exhibits a “lying flat” attitude. This reflects the failure of organizational incentive mechanisms. In order to improve the incentive system and encourage employees to be proactive, the study explores and compares the synergistic effects of different rewards tools on various forms of proactive behavior in the new generation of knowledge employees. After conducting fsQCA and NCA analyses on paired data from 93 leaders and 210 employees based on the ERG theory, the findings indicate that no single reward tool is a necessary condition for triggering high proactive behavior. Instead, different reward tools need to work in synergy to produce effective motivation. Three patterns drive employees to exhibit high individual task proactivity. They are the “Dual-Drive Salary Security and Moderate Labor Dominant” pattern, the “Moderate Labor Dominant” pattern, and the “Salary Security Dominant” pattern. Two patterns drive employees to demonstrate high team member proactivity, namely the “Employee Care Dominant High-Investment” pattern and the “Pay Fairness Dominant High-Investment” pattern. Additionally, good work experience (i.e., colleague relationships) in the workplace has a significant impact on both types of proactive behavior. The research conclusions will provide insights and references for enterprise managers to design more targeted compensation incentive policies and unleash the vitality of the new generation of knowledgeable employees. This study aims to explore the experiences and perceptions of service providers working in direct contact with out-of-school youth to identify ways to build a more sustainable and responsive support system within the community. Individual and group interviews were conducted with eight service providers, including a team leader and five directors from public out-of-school support institutions, as well as two schoolteachers from the Board of Education, who were experienced in assisting dropout students. Reflexive thematic analysis of the interview data revealed four key themes: connecting youth to the community system, diversifying programs, minimizing disparities, and increasing societal awareness of out-of-school youth. These findings highlight how various needs and access to opportunities can be provided to all youths, regardless of their school enrollment. The study underscores the importance of shared responsibility in building an inclusive, community-based approach. It also emphasizes the necessity of cross-sector and inter-ministerial collaboration to reduce structural barriers and promote equitable learning opportunities. By centering the voices of practitioners, this study contributes to the broader discourse on building a sustainable community in which out-of-school youth can receive opportunities and resources to thrive as healthy contributing members of the community. Aligned with the worldwide shift towards promotional and preventative health care, the South African government has introduced a re-engineered primary health care plan, facilitated through a National Health Insurance (NHI) platform. Community health workers (CHWs) are key role-players in most universal health care systems. This article shares insider perspectives from 31 CHWs in one of the South African NHI pilot districts. Based on their perspectives, the authors share recommendations to strengthen the NHI plan. Recommendations comprise of the inclusion of a dedicated CHW team leader and reporting nurse, ongoing CHW education and training with an accompanying portfolio of evidence, and awareness campaigns on the role of CHWs within the South African re-engineered primary health care plan and NHI platform. This study introduces a novel approach to cyber defense exercises, emphasizing the emulation of technical tasks to create realistic incident response scenarios. Unlike traditional cyber ranges or tabletop exercises, this method enables both management and technical leaders to engage in decision-making processes without requiring a full technical setup. The initial observations indicate that exercises based on the emulation of technical tasks require less preparation time compared to conventional methods, addressing the growing demand for efficient training solutions. This study aims to assist organizations in developing their own cyber defense exercises by providing practical insights into the benefits and challenges of this approach. The key advantages observed include improved procedural compliance, inter-team communication, and a better understanding of the chain of command as participants navigate realistic, organization-wide scenarios. However, new challenges have also emerged, such as managing the simulation tempo and balancing technical complexity—particularly in offense–defense team configurations. This study proposes a structured and scalable approach as a practical alternative to the traditional training methods, aligning better with the evolving demands of modern cyber defense. Full article
