Understanding Value Propositions and Perceptions of Sharing Economy Platforms Between South Korea and the United States: A Content Analysis and Topic Modeling Approach

The sharing economy (SE) has rapidly expanded to become a key component of the global economy. However, as SE platforms evolve, a growing disconnect may exist between the value propositions companies emphasize and the values consumers actually perceive. Do the value frames communicated by SE companies align with those perceived as important by consumers, and how does this alignment differ across cultural contexts such as South Korea and the U.S.? Drawing on two complementary studies, we examine value alignment between SE companies and consumers in South Korea and the U.S. Study 1 employs content analysis of marketing messages from 246 SE platforms across five sectors, identifying the core value propositions emphasized. Study 2 applied structural topic modeling (STM) to consumer reviews from major SE platforms in both countries, focusing on three sectors: accommodation, service exchanges, and second-hand transactions. The findings reveal that SE companies in both countries primarily emphasize functional and economic values, with U.S. companies placing greater additional emphasis on emotional and social values than their South Korean counterparts. Similarly, consumers in both countries value functional, emotional, and economic aspects, showing general alignment with company marketing communications. However, South Korean consumers tended to emphasize functional and economic values more, while U.S. consumers were relatively more oriented toward emotional and social values. Notably, sustainability, widely regarded as a core principle of the SE, was not strongly emphasized by either companies or consumers. These findings contribute to the theoretical understanding of value dynamics in the SE and offer practical implications for developing culturally informed and value-driven marketing strategies. Quantum machine learning (QML) has emerged as a promising approach for enhancing image classification by exploiting quantum computational principles such as superposition and entanglement. However, practical applications on complex datasets like CIFAR-100 remain limited due to the low expressivity of shallow circuits and challenges in circuit optimization. In this study, we propose HQCNN–REGA—a novel hybrid quantum–classical convolutional neural network architecture that integrates data re-uploading and genetic algorithm optimization for improved performance. The data re-uploading mechanism allows classical inputs to be encoded multiple times into quantum states, enhancing the model’s capacity to learn complex visual features. In parallel, a genetic algorithm is employed to evolve the quantum circuit architecture by optimizing gate sequences, entanglement patterns, and layer configurations. This combination enables automatic discovery of efficient parameterized quantum circuits without manual tuning. Experiments on the MNIST and CIFAR-100 datasets demonstrate state-of-the-art performance for quantum models, with HQCNN–REGA outperforming existing quantum neural networks and approaching the accuracy of advanced classical architectures. In particular, we compare our model with classical convolutional baselines such as ResNet-18 to validate its effectiveness in real-world image classification tasks. Our results demonstrate the feasibility of scalable, high-performing quantum–classical systems and offer a viable path toward practical deployment of QML in computer vision applications, especially on noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) hardware. The force ripple of a permanent magnet synchronous linear motor (PMSLM) caused by multi-source disturbances in practical applications seriously restricts its high-precision motion control performance. The traditional single-mechanism model has difficulty fully characterizing the nonlinear disturbance factors, while the data-driven method has real-time limitations. Therefore, this paper proposes a hybrid modeling framework that integrates the physical mechanism and measured data and realizes the dynamic compensation of the force ripple by constructing a collaborative suppression algorithm. At the mechanistic level, based on electromagnetic field theory and the virtual displacement principle, an analytical model of the core disturbance terms such as the cogging effect and the end effect is established. At the data level, the acceleration sensor is used to collect the dynamic response signal in real time, and the data-driven ripple residual model is constructed by combining frequency domain analysis and parameter fitting. In order to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm, a hardware and software experimental platform including a multi-core processor, high-precision current loop controller, real-time data acquisition module, and motion control unit is built to realize the online calculation and closed-loop injection of the hybrid compensation current. Experiments show that the hybrid framework effectively compensates the unmodeled disturbance through the data model while maintaining the physical interpretability of the mechanistic model, which provides a new idea for motor performance optimization under complex working conditions. The incorporation of phase change material (PCM) can enhance wall thermal performance and indoor thermal comfort, but practical applications still face challenges related to high costs and potential leakage issues. In this study, a novel dual-biomass-based shape-stabilized PCM (Bio-SSPCM) was proposed, wherein waste cooking fat and waste reed straw were, respectively, incorporated as the PCM substance and supporting material. The waste fat (lard) consisted of both saturated and unsaturated fatty acid glycerides, exhibiting a melting point about 21.2–41.1 °C and a melting enthalpy value of 40 J/g. Reed straw was carbonized to form a sustainable porous biochar supporting matrix, which was used for the vacuum adsorption of waste fat. The results demonstrate that the as-prepared dual-Bio-SSPCM exhibited excellent thermal performance, characterized by a latent heat capacity of 25.4 J/g. With the addition of 4 wt% of expanded graphite (EG), the thermal conductivity of the composite PCM reached 1.132 W/(m·K), which was 5.4 times higher than that of the primary lard. The thermal properties of the Bio-SSPCM were characterized using an analog T-history method. The results demonstrated that the dual-Bio-SSPCM exhibited exceptional and rapid heat storage and exothermic capabilities. The dual-Bio-SSPCM, prepared from waste cooking fat and reed straw, can be considered as environmentally friendly construction material for energy storage in line with the principles of the circular economy. This study focuses on Shanghai, a pioneer city in China’s community renewal practices. In recent years, community renewal driven by civic participation has become a prominent research topic, leading to the emergence of numerous exemplary cases in Shanghai. However, field investigations revealed that many projects have experienced varying degrees of physical deterioration and a decline in spatial vitality due to insufficient maintenance, reflecting unsustainable outcomes. In response, this study examines a bottom-up community renewal project led by the research team, aiming to explore how broad civic participation can promote sustainable community renewal. A multidisciplinary approach incorporating perspectives from ecology, the humanities, economics, and sociology was used to guide citizen participation, while participatory observation methods recorded emotional shifts and maintenance behavior throughout the process. The results showed that civic participatory actions under the guidance of sustainability principles effectively enhanced citizens’ sense of community identity and responsibility, thereby facilitating the sustainable upkeep and operation of community spaces. However, the study also found that bottom-up efforts alone are insufficient. Sustainable community renewal also requires top-down policy support and institutional safeguards. At the end, the paper concludes by summarizing the practical outcomes and proposing strategies and mechanisms for broader application, aiming to provide a reference for related practices and research. Green manufacturing has emerged as a critical objective in the evolution of advanced production systems. Although digital twin technology is widely recognized for enhancing efficiency and promoting sustainability, the majority of existing research focuses exclusively on physical systems. They neglect the impact of soft systems, including human behavior, decision-making, and operational strategies. To address this limitation, the present study introduces an innovative hybrid digital twin model that integrates both physical and soft systems to support green manufacturing initiatives comprehensively. The primary contributions of this work are threefold. First, a novel hybrid architecture is developed by coupling real-time physical data with virtual soft system components that simulate factory operations. Second, lean production principles are systematically incorporated into the soft system, thereby facilitating reduced energy consumption and minimizing environmental impact. Third, a parameter-driven programming model is formulated to correlate critical variables with green performance metrics, and a genetic algorithm is utilized to optimize these variables, ultimately enhancing sustainability outcomes. This integrated approach not only expands the applicability of digital twin technology but also offers a data-driven decision-support tool for the advancement of green manufacturing practices. Academic English support is crucial for English as an Additional Language (EAL) nursing students in English-medium nursing education programmes. However, empirical research on content and language integrated learning (CLIL) within this specific context remains limited. This study, informed by recent advancements in translanguaging and trans-semiotising (TL-TS) theory, investigates the patterns of teacher collaboration in nursing CLIL and its impact when employing a TL-TS pedagogical approach. Analysis of students’ pre- and post-tests and multimodal classroom interactions reveals that effective collaboration between nursing specialists and language experts in CLIL can be fostered by (1) aligning with language education principles through the incorporation of internally persuasive discourse (IPD) about language learning and TL-TS practices; (2) simulating potential professional contingencies and co-developing coping strategies using TL-TS; and (3) elucidating nursing language norms through TL-TS and IPD. We advocate for re-imagination of CLIL in English-medium nursing education through an organistic–procedural TL perspective and highlight its potential to enhance EAL nursing students’ development of language proficiency and professional competencies. The development of active food packaging has evolved rapidly in recent years, offering innovative solutions to enhance food preservation and safety while addressing sustainability challenges. This review compiles and analyzes recent advancements (2019–2024) in release-type active packaging, focusing on essential oils, natural extracts, and phenolic compounds as active agents. Primarily plant-derived, these compounds exhibit significant antioxidant and antimicrobial activities, extending shelf life and enhancing food quality. Technological strategies such as encapsulation and polymer blending have been increasingly adopted to overcome challenges related to volatility, solubility, and sensory impact. Integrating bio-based polymers, including chitosan, starch, and polylactic acid, further supports the development of environmentally friendly packaging systems. This review also highlights trends in compound-specific research, release mechanisms, and commercial applications, including a detailed analysis of patents and case studies across various food matrices. These developments have already been translated into practical applications, such as antimicrobial sachets for meat and essential oil-based pads for fresh produce. Moreover, by promoting the valorization of agro-industrial by-products and the use of biodegradable materials, emission-type active packaging contributes to the principles of the circular economy. This comprehensive overview underscores the potential of natural bioactive compounds in advancing sustainable and functional food packaging technologies. Full article

How to Compensate Forest Ecosystem Services Through Restorative Justice: An Analysis Based on Typical Cases in China

The ongoing degradation of global forests has severely weakened ecosystem service functions, and traditional judicial remedies have struggled to quantify intangible ecological losses. China has become an important testing ground for restorative justice through the establishment of specialized environmental courts and the practice of environmental public interest litigation. Since 2015, China has actively explored and institutionalized the application of the concept of restorative justice in its environmental justice reform. This concept emphasizes compensating environmental damages through actual ecological restoration acts rather than relying solely on financial compensation. This shift reflects a deep understanding of the limitations of traditional environmental justice and an institutional response to China’s ecological civilization construction, providing critical support for forest ecosystem restoration and enabling ecological restoration activities, such as replanting and re-greening, habitat reconstruction, etc., to be enforced through judicial decisions. This study conducts a qualitative analysis of judicial rulings in forest restoration cases to systematically evaluate the effectiveness of restorative justice in compensating for losses in forest ecosystem service functions. The findings reveal the following: (1) restoration measures in judicial practice are disconnected from the types of ecosystem services available; (2) non-market values and long-term cumulative damages are systematically underestimated, with monitoring mechanisms exhibiting fragmented implementation and insufficient effectiveness; (3) management cycles are set in violation of ecological restoration principles, and acceptance standards lack function-oriented indicators; (4) participation of key stakeholders is severely lacking, and local knowledge and professional expertise have not been integrated. In response, this study proposes a restorative judicial framework oriented toward forest ecosystem services, utilizing four mechanisms: independent recognition of legal interests, function-matched restoration, application of scientific assessment tools, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. This framework aims to drive a paradigm shift from formal restoration to substantive functional recovery, providing theoretical support and practical pathways for environmental judicial reform and global forest governance. Magnetic gears (MGs) are attracting increasing attention in power transmission systems due to their contactless operation principles, low frictional losses, and high efficiency. However, the broad application potential of these technologies requires a comprehensive evaluation of engineering parameters, such as material selection, energy efficiency, and structural design. This review focuses solely on solid-core magnetic gear systems designed using laminated electrical steels, soft magnetic composites (SMCs), and high-saturation alloys. This review systematically examines the topological diversity, torque transmission principles, and the impact of various core materials, such as electrical steels, soft magnetic composites (SMCs), and cobalt-based alloys, on the performance of magnetic gear systems. Literature-based comparative analyses are structured around topological classifications, evaluation of material properties, and performance analyses based on losses. Additionally, the study highlights that aligning material properties with appropriate manufacturing methods, such as powder metallurgy, wire electrical discharge machining (EDM), and precision casting, is essential for the practical scalability of magnetic gear systems. The findings reveal that coaxial magnetic gears (CMGs) offer a favorable balance between high torque density and compactness, while soft magnetic composites provide significant advantages in loss reduction, particularly at high frequencies. Additionally, application trends in fields such as renewable energy, electric vehicles (EVs), aerospace, and robotics are highlighted. Full article

Change Management in Aviation Organizations: A Multi-Method Theoretical Framework for External Environmental Uncertainty

In today’s dynamic and highly uncertain environment, organizations, particularly in the aviation sector, face increasing challenges that demand resilient, flexible, and data-driven change management decisions. Responding to the growing need for structured approaches to managing complex uncertainties—geopolitical tensions, economic volatility, social shifts, rapid technological advancements, environmental pressures and regulatory changes—this research proposes a theoretical change management model for aviation service providers, such as airports. Integrating three analytical approaches, the model offers a robust, multi-method approach for supporting sustainable transformation under uncertainty. Normative analysis using Bayesian decision theory identifies influential external environmental factors, capturing probabilistic relationships, and revealing causal links under uncertainty. Prescriptive planning through scenario theory explores alternative future pathways and helps to identify possible predictions, offer descriptive evaluation employing fuzzy comprehensive evaluation, and assess decision quality under vagueness and complexity. The proposed four-stage model—observation, analysis, evaluation, and response—offers a methodology for continuous external environment monitoring, scenario development, and data-driven, proactive change management decision-making, including the impact assessment of change and development. The proposed model contributes to the theoretical advancement of the change management research area under uncertainty and offers practical guidance for aviation organizations (airports) facing a volatile external environment. This framework strengthens aviation organizations’ ability to anticipate, evaluate, and adapt to multifaceted external changes, supporting operational flexibility and adaptability and contributing to the sustainable development of aviation services. Supporting aviation organizations with tools to proactively manage systemic uncertainty, this research directly supports the integration of sustainability principles, such as resilience and adaptability, for long-term value creation through change management decision-making. Background/Objectives: In many parts of the world, pharmacists hold the primary responsibility for providing safe and effective pharmacotherapy. A key aspect is the availability of appropriate medicines for each individual patient. When industrially manufactured medicines are unsuitable or unavailable, pharmacists can prepare tailor-made medicines. While this principle applies globally, practices vary between countries. In the Netherlands, the preparation of medicines in pharmacies is well-established and integrated into routine healthcare. This narrative review explores the role and significance of extemporaneous compounding, pharmacy preparations and related product care in the Netherlands. Methods: Pharmacists involved in pharmacy preparations across various professional sectors, including community and hospital pharmacies, central compounding facilities, academia, and the professional pharmacists’ organisation, provided detailed and expert insights based on the literature and policy documents while also sharing their critical perspectives. Results: We present arguments supporting the need for pharmacy preparations and examine their position and role in community and hospital pharmacies in the Netherlands. Additional topics are discussed, including the regulatory and legal framework, outsourcing, quality assurance, standardisation, education, and international context. Specific pharmacy preparation topics, often with a research component and a strong focus on product care, are highlighted, including paediatric dosage forms, swallowing difficulties and feeding tubes, hospital-at-home care, reconstitution of oncolytic drugs and biologicals, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs), radiopharmaceuticals and optical tracers, clinical trial medication, robotisation in reconstitution, and patient-centric solid oral dosage forms. Conclusions: The widespread acceptance of pharmacy preparations in the Netherlands is the result of a unique combination of strict adherence to tailored regulations that ensure quality and safety, and patient-oriented flexibility in design, formulation, and production. This approach is further reinforced by the standardisation of a broad range of formulations and procedures across primary, secondary and tertiary care, as well as by continuous research-driven innovation to develop new medicines, formulations, and production methods. Prescriptive Maintenance (PsM) transforms industrial asset management by enabling autonomous decisions through simultaneous failure anticipation and optimal maintenance recommendations. Yet, despite increasing research interest, the conceptual clarity, technological maturity, and practical deployment of PsM remains fragmented. Here, we conduct a comprehensive and application-oriented Systematic Literature Review of studies published between 2013–2024. We identify key enablers—artificial intelligence and machine learning, horizontal and vertical integration, and deep reinforcement learning—that map the functional space of PsM across industrial sectors. The results from our multivariate meta-synthesis uncover three main thematic research clusters, ranging from decision-automation of technical (multi)component-level systems to strategic and organisational-support strategies. Notably, while predictive models are widely adopted, the translation of these capabilities to PsM remains limited. Primary reasons include semantic interoperability, real-time optimisation, and deployment scalability. As a response, a structured research agenda is proposed to emphasise hybrid architectures, context-aware prescription mechanisms, and alignment with Industry 5.0 principles of human-centricity, resilience, and sustainability. The review establishes a critical foundation for future advances in intelligent, explainable, and action-oriented maintenance systems. Full article

Reframing Polypharmacy: Empowering Medical Students to Manage Medication Burden as a Chronic Condition

Aims/Background: Polypharmacy, or the concurrent intake of five or more medications, is a significant issue in clinical practice, particularly in multimorbid elderly individuals. Despite its importance for patient safety, medical education often lacks systematic training in recognising and managing polypharmacy within the framework of patient-centred care. We investigated the impact of a structured learning intervention introducing polypharmacy as a chronic condition, assessing whether it enhances medical students’ diagnostic competence, confidence, and interprofessional collaboration. Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted with 50 final-year medical students who received a three-phase educational intervention. Phase 1 was interactive workshops on the principles of polypharmacy, its dangers, and diagnostic tools. Phase 2 involved simulated patient consultations and medication review exercises with pharmacists. Phase 3 involved reflection through debriefing sessions, reflective diaries, and standardised patient feedback. Student knowledge, confidence, and attitudes towards polypharmacy management were assessed using pre- and post-intervention questionnaires. Quantitative data were analysed through paired t-tests, and qualitative data were analysed thematically from reflective diaries. Results: Students demonstrated considerable improvement after the intervention in identifying symptoms of polypharmacy, suggesting deprescribing strategies, and working in multidisciplinary teams. Confidence in prioritising polypharmacy as a primary diagnostic problem increased from 32% to 86% (p < 0.01), and knowledge of diagnostic tools increased from 3.1 ± 0.6 to 4.7 ± 0.3 (p < 0.01). Standardised patients felt communication and patient-centredness had improved, with satisfaction scores increasing from 3.5 ± 0.8 to 4.8 ± 0.4 (p < 0.01). Reflective diaries indicated a shift towards more holistic thinking regarding medication burden. The small sample size limits the generalisability of the results. Conclusions: Teaching polypharmacy as a chronic condition in medical school enhances diagnostic competence, interprofessional teamwork, and patient safety. Education is a structured way of integrating the management of polypharmacy into routine clinical practice. This model provides valuable insights for designing medical curricula. Future research must assess the impact of such training on patient outcomes and clinical decision-making in the long term. Full article

In the course of studying automatic control for students majoring in Mechatronics and Control Engineering, Python has become the dominant language in artificial intelligence and machine learning as an essential tool for the analysis and design of automatic control systems. In response to the widespread issues of an inadequate ability to apply automatic control principles, an unclear understanding of logical architecture, and a lack of coding abilities in programming for complex systems, we introduce the “Wenxinyiyan” large language models (LLMs) tool. For the height control of the V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft in helicopter mode, we guided students to develop a control system in a structured question-and-answer learning process and a model-driven approach. This assisted students in establishing a computer-aided design framework for complex systems and enhancing their understanding of control logic. The LLM assisted students in writing high-quality and clean code. Full article
