The sustainable transformation of idle built environments represents a critical pathway for advancing low-carbon development and achieving carbon neutrality targets. This study examines how idle rural building stocks may contribute to sustainable built environment systems through rural building repurposing and regeneration strategies. It introduces the concept of Green Rural Centers (GRCs), multifunctional facilities formed through the adaptive reuse of idle buildings that integrate low-carbon design, community services, and local economic functions. Within the proposed framework, GRCs are conceptually characterized as facilities that may: (1) achieve 50–70% reductions in operational energy demand through passive and renewable measures, (2) incorporate two or more community-oriented functions (e.g., education, governance, cultural services), and (3) demonstrate embodied carbon savings of ≥40% compared to demolition-and-rebuild scenarios. Grounded in fieldwork from Fujian Province, China, and aligned with national policies, the study evaluates spatial transformation, carbon mitigation, and institutional integration. Using a mixed-methods approach that combines scenario-based carbon-reduction estimation and appraisal, spatial analysis, comparative case studies, and policy evaluation, the findings indicate that retrofitting 30% of approximately 68,000 idle rural schools could achieve approximately 734,400 metric tons of cumulative CO2 reduction by 2060 under the baseline scenario. Under conservative and ambitious implementation conditions, the estimated cumulative reductions are approximately 408,000 and 1,224,000 metric tons of CO2, respectively. Sensitivity analysis shows that moderate improvements in retrofit quality or implementation rates significantly amplify emissions reduction outcomes. Beyond environmental performance, the proposed framework may also support community resilience, decentralized service provision, and socio-economic revitalization. This research reframes idle building stock as a strategic asset within sustainable built environment systems, policy-relevant exploratory framework potentially adaptable to comparable rural contexts. This study contributes to the sustainable built environment discourse by demonstrating how underutilized rural building stocks can function as broader low-carbon rural regeneration systems. Sustainable management of sugar agro-industrial value chains requires a multidimensional approach that integrates economic, environmental, and social criteria. Current literature addresses risk management, circularity, and artificial intelligence in isolation, without an integrated framework that generates synergistic value. The objective of this research is to validate an integrated framework for the sustainable management of sugar agro-industrial value chains. A mixed-methods, qualitative-quantitative, descriptive-retrospective study was conducted on the Cuban sugar agro-industry during 2023–2025. The procedure was structured into five phases and 10 stages; Petri net simulation was used to validate its logical consistency. Material, economic-financial, and knowledge flows were mapped; 16 stakeholder groups and their influence–dependence relationships were analyzed; 41 risks were identified, of which six were classified as critical. Simulation-based scenario modeling, which integrates risk, circularity, and AI interventions, projects an average potential reduction of 33.4% in total chain lead time, pending empirical validation. Petri nets confirmed the absence of connectivity errors, free-choice violations, and flow noise, formally validating the logical consistency of the procedure. The research supports the hypothesis that an integrated framework combining risk management, circularity, and AI, validated using Petri nets for logical consistency, projects improvements in the efficiency and sustainability of the value chain. Public spaces are important components of urban life, supporting social interaction, recreation, and environmental outcomes. Their success, however, depends not only on their physical provision but also on governance structures that guide their daily operation and maintenance routines. This study examines how operational governance and management practices influence user perception of public spaces by comparing two urban parks in Kathmandu: Ratna Park, a major city-level space, and Nandi Keshwor Bagaicha Park, a neighborhood-scale park. Using a mixed-method approach, the research employed a user survey (n = 191), interviews, and field observations. Survey data were used to develop composite indices for maintenance, safety, amenities, and user comfort. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations, independent-samples t-tests, and multiple regression models were used to examine the influence of governance on user perception. The findings reveal notable differences between the two parks. Nandi Keshwor Bagaicha Park scored higher on perceived safety (mean = 4.30) and comfort (mean = 4.01), while Ratna Park showed stronger performance in amenities (mean = 3.91). Although correlations between governance indicators and comfort were weak, regression analyses showed that maintenance, safety, and amenities accounted for only a small portion of the comfort variance (r2 = 0.03). These findings indicate that operational variables alone do not fully explain user perception and suggest that broader management practices and patterns of use may also influence perceptions of comfort. This study provides exploratory empirical insight into public space governance and highlights the importance of strengthening operational systems and management practices in contemporary cities. Background: Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterised by widespread pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and psychological symptoms. Mindfulness-based approaches are increasingly used as complementary interventions for symptom management. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based yoga (MBY) delivered via telerehabilitation in individuals with fibromyalgia. Methods: This trial included 64 women with fibromyalgia who were randomly assigned to an 8-week mindfulness-based yoga program delivered via telerehabilitation or active control group including walking and physiotherapy modalities. Both groups received patient education at the outset. Assessments were conducted before and after the intervention. Outcome measures included fatigue, anxiety, depression, sleep quality, symptoms associated with central sensitization, kinesiophobia, pain intensity, mindfulness level, impact of fibromyalgia on life, biopsychosocial status, and pain catastrophising. Data were analyzed using mixed-design analysis of variance (ANOVA), with additional t-tests and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) conducted for post hoc analyses. Results: Compared to the control group, the mindfulness-based yoga (MBY) group showed more pronounced improvements in terms of fatigue, anxiety, symptoms associated with central sensitization, biopsychosocial status, symptom severity, catastrophising about pain, ruminative thoughts about pain, and cognitive dimensions of pain. Although no significant differences were found between groups for other variables, intra-group improvements were observed in the MBY group. Conclusions: It was concluded that the MBY intervention administered via telerehabilitation is a viable complementary approach to traditional treatments in reducing the symptom burden of fibromyalgia. It was thought that the effectiveness of the research could be increased by conducting studies involving long-term follow-up assessments and investigating the integration of different mindfulness-based telerehabilitation interventions into the clinical setting. Background: The International Agency for Research on Cancer estimated around 3197 annual deaths along with 5008 newly diagnosed cases of cervical cancer in Pakistan. Worldwide, introduced in 164 WHO member states, the HPV vaccine provides over ninety percent (90%) protection from human papillomavirus (16 & 18 types) infections. This article intended to document the vaccine (HPV) introduction in a low-middle-income country through the lens of EPI preparedness, vaccination coverage achieved, community acceptance, and implementation challenges during Phase I. Methodology: The research applied a qualitative and quantitative mix method to review the intricate procedure of new vaccine rollout within the national context. A qualitative participant observation approach assessed the planning, approval, and implementation phases of the HPV vaccine. Quantitative data statistics were evaluated for national & regional vaccination coverages, rapid convenience assessment findings, and adverse events reports. Results: The overall reported administrative HPV campaign coverage was 75%, with the maximum regional coverage of 81% by the Punjab, followed by 66% of the Sindh, 43% by the Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and 38% by the Islamabad. Rapid Convenience Assessment findings highlighted the main reasons for refusal (71%), with unavailable girls during the campaign (22%) for non-HPV vaccination. Community acceptance varied across the regions, with notable challenges in implementation being observed. Discussion & Way Forward: Initial phase campaign coverage (70.6%) was greater than the worldwide reported first dose mean coverage (61.6%) for the same multi-age cohort, indicative of an encouraging start in resource limited setting. Documented coverage was below the high-performing countries but comparable to multiple low and middle-income countries. Federal Directorate of Immunization, in collaboration with provincial EPI stakeholders, should prioritize including the newly introduced HPV vaccine in the routine immunization schedule of the Phase I regions and should also implement the lessons learned in the subsequent rollout phases in 2026 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 2027 in Balochistan & Gilgit Baltistan. Expanding fixed EPI sites for HPV vaccination, promoting school-centered vaccination, rationalizing outreach in marginalized areas, sustaining the cold chain system, implementing a culturally acceptable communication plan, and resolving internet connectivity challenges are the key strategies to address implementation challenges. The fashion industry generates a major environmental impact, requiring integrated sustainable approaches. This study integrates six thematic axes—sustainability, modular design, natural materials, eco-friendly dyeing, multidimensional comfort and consumer perception, and radial composition—into an integrative framework for sustainable design. The mixed-methods methodology comprises four stages: (I) a quantitative stage (questionnaire, n = 150); (II) an experimental stage (testing of comfort characteristics of linen fabrics according to ISO standards, and indigo dyeing through three techniques: uniform, tie-dye, and shibori); (III) a digital design stage in CLO3D and physical fabrication of the prototype; (IV) a prototype testing and validation stage (panel, n = 20). The prototype provides functional adaptability through 8 design configurations, versatility through reversibility, and aesthetic diversity through the radial composition, yielding 16 distinct wearing modes within a single product. Panel evaluation confirms high prototype acceptance (M = 4.81–4.95), and physical interaction with the prototype significantly increases purchase intention compared with conceptual evaluation (Mpre = 3.54; Mpost = 4.60; d = 2.04; p < 0.001). The contribution validates a framework that integrates six dimensions of sustainable fashion into a coherent clothing design model, demonstrating design’s role as a practical instrument in the sustainability transition, with applied implications for designers and researchers. Coastal urban environments are increasingly exposed to natural hazards, including storm surges, tsunamis, coastal erosion, and flooding, which threaten lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure. Despite their widespread use, conventional hard and soft engineering measures have often proved insufficient to address the escalating risks posed by climate change and rapid urbanisation. This study explores the potential of Nature-Inspired Solutions (NiS) as a complementary pathway to advance resilience in architecture, urban design, and planning. Unlike Nature-Based Solutions that utilise existing ecosystems directly, NiS draw design principles from both biotic and abiotic natural systems, offering innovative models for resilient settlements, coastal infrastructure, and adaptive urban planning. Using a mixed-methods approach that includes systematic and narrative reviews, semi-structured expert interviews, analysis of urban development plans, a panel discussion, and expert brainstorming, this research examines how natural coastal systems inform design interventions. Sri Lanka was selected as the primary case study context due to its exceptional coastal vulnerability, significant climate adaptation policy gaps, and status as a small island developing state representative of the coastal challenges faced by similar contexts globally. Furthermore, Sri Lanka was selected as the case study in accordance with the original research proposal submitted to the University of Huddersfield, which identified the country as a suitable context due to its significant vulnerability to coastal hazards, as outlined above. Field investigations in the Lunawa coastal area documented community-based adaptive practices emerging from multi-generational environmental observation. Analysis reveals how dune morphologies, root structures, living shorelines, and rock pool formations translate into architectural and engineering applications. Findings identify critical implementation challenges, including context-specific requirements, technical knowledge gaps, insufficient policy frameworks, limited practitioner awareness, and uncertainties about economic feasibility, as well as key enablers such as demonstrated ecological effectiveness and the potential of multifunctional infrastructure. The study demonstrates that embedding NiS into risk-informed planning and resilient urban design contributes to climate change adaptation, ecological sustainability, and inclusive governance, while highlighting persistent barriers that require strategic intervention. By bridging ecological wisdom and architectural innovation, NiS offers transformative opportunities to reimagine resilient coastal cities and communities facing escalating climate-induced hazards. The ongoing evolution of Industry 4.0 technologies necessitates novel and effective modes of human–machine interaction within production environments. This work presents a modular approach to the design and implementation of graphical user interfaces (GUI) in mixed reality, leveraging the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) standard. The proposed method enables the dynamic rendering of GUI elements in a Mixed Reality setting based on structured data retrieved from an AAS server. Developed for the Microsoft HoloLens 2 using the Unity engine and the Microsoft Reality Toolkit 3 (MRTK3), the system allows for the spatial placement of interface components either at predefined coordinates or in relation to specific elements of a production line model. Additionally, it incorporates a real-time distributed architecture utilizing OPC UA PubSub and MQTT protocols for processing and visualising live data. The prototype demonstrates the viability of using AAS as a flexible framework for defining and generating GUI components in immersive environments and lays the groundwork for further research into standardised, easily deployable user interface solutions for industrial applications. Location-based games (LBGs) have increasingly been adopted in education for experiential, situated, and collaborative learning. While used in subjects such as geography and history, their application in mathematics remains underexplored, partly because mathematical concepts are abstract and hard to embed in spatial game environments. This study examines the feasibility and educational potential of LBGs in lower-secondary mathematics. Using a mixed-methods approach, two location-based activities were tested with 28 students aged 12–14. In the first, students used Global Positioning System (GPS)-enabled devices to reach landmarks (e.g., a volleyball court, a church), where they took on-site measurements and applied geometric reasoning to calculate areas, perimeters, and volumes. In the second, they followed a treasure hunt, solving algebraic equations and word problems to form a secret word. Questionnaires, observations, and teacher interviews showed high engagement, participation, and collaboration, with students viewing the activities as meaningful revision. Teachers found them valuable and feasible within curricular limits, despite challenges such as preparation time, technical issues, and regulations. However, given the small sample and exploratory design, findings should be interpreted with caution: no general inferences can be drawn, and no direct learning-outcome measures were used. The study offers empirical insights into designing mathematics-oriented LBGs and future research directions. Full article

This study examines the positioning of biblical narratives within international relations scholarship, with particular emphasis on their function as cultural resources shaping identity, geopolitical discourse, and soft power dynamics. Although religion has gained increasing recognition within international relations, the extent to which scriptural narratives are systematically integrated into analytical frameworks remains insufficiently defined. To address this issue, the study employs a mixed-methods research design that combines a systematic literature review with bibliometric analysis. Bibliographic data were retrieved from the Scopus and Web of Science databases through a structured query linking biblical terminology to diplomacy, geopolitics, and religion–politics interactions, and were analyzed using the Bibliometrix package in R. The analysis draws on two datasets comprising 135 publications from Scopus and 88 from Web of Science, spanning 1989 to 2026. The findings indicate that scholarship examining biblical narratives in international relations is moderately developed and interdisciplinary, yet remains fragmented, with geopolitical themes predominating. Biblical narratives are consistently present but are primarily embedded within broader analytical categories such as identity, discourse, and legitimacy, rather than being treated as central variables. The results further suggest that religious content is often incorporated in indirect or implicit forms, reflecting a broader tendency to approach religion as a contextual rather than a constitutive element. Overall, the findings indicate that biblical narratives function primarily as interpretive and symbolic frameworks in international relations, while their analytical potential remains only partially developed, underscoring the need for more systematic integration of cultural and religious analysis in the study of global politics. However, empirical understanding of how users perceive and engage with such systems in pastoral contexts remains limited. This study explores stakeholder perceptions regarding the usefulness and operational relevance of a WM-EWS implemented in the Borana zone of Ethiopia. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining survey data from 71 purposively selected mixed stakeholders with qualitative insights obtained through focus group discussions and key informant interviews. Findings indicate that respondents widely reported using WM-EWS information for water-related decision-making and perceived the system as useful in supporting drought preparedness and adaptive responses. Participants associated WM-EWS use with perceived changes in areas such as livestock management, access to water-related information, and coordination among stakeholders. Respondents also reported adopting multiple coping strategies, including early livestock sales, strategic herd mobility, and engagement with external support mechanisms. Respondents perceived fewer conflicts over water resources and greater engagement from humanitarian actors following WM-EWS implementation. Overall, the study provides exploratory insights into stakeholder experiences, perceived usefulness, and operational relevance of user-centered WM-EWS in drought-prone pastoral systems. The findings contribute to understanding how pastoral communities engage with climate information services while highlighting the need for future research using objective and longitudinal approaches to assess system effectiveness more rigorously. The dynamic growth of tourism in Serbia has significantly reshaped the spatial structure of destinations, raising important issues related to sustainable development and spatial management. This study aims to examine the perceived effectiveness of spatial planning in tourism, based on tourists’ assessments of plan implementation and its visible implications for sustainable development. The research was conducted in Serbia in 2025 using a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative and qualitative analysis based on a survey of 208 valid respondents. The quantitative analysis included Spearman’s rank correlation and Z-test to examine relationships between variables and differences in attitudes, while qualitative insights were derived from open-ended responses. The results indicate a statistically significant positive correlation between the perceived implementation of spatial plans and the level of tourism development (Rs = 0.283, p < 0.001). However, the findings also reveal that 41.3% of respondents believe that tourism is only slightly considered in spatial plans, while 45.19% express negative attitudes toward the integration of tourism into planning processes. The study identifies key challenges, including weak cross-sector coordination, insufficient integration of tourism into spatial plans, and limited involvement of local communities. These findings highlight a critical gap between formal planning frameworks and their practical implementation. The main contribution of this research lies in providing empirical evidence from the perspective of tourists, a stakeholder group often overlooked in spatial planning studies, thereby addressing a gap in the literature on tourism–planning integration in Serbia. The results suggest that improving institutional coordination, strengthening participatory planning, and enhancing monitoring mechanisms are essential for achieving sustainable tourism development. The study offers targeted policy implications for aligning spatial planning with tourism development goals while preserving natural and cultural resources. Full article

This study addresses the critical importance of fire safety considerations during the design phase of commercial buildings, particularly in Saudi Arabia, where urbanization and climate-specific risks pose unique challenges. Recognizing that high-risk structures often experience fire-related incidents due to inadequate safety measures, this research develops a comprehensive framework to guide design professionals in integrating effective fire safety strategies. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study combined a literature review, qualitative expert interviews, and a questionnaire survey. The final quantitative analysis was based on 86 valid survey responses, including 29 authority or regulation implementers, 28 designers, and 29 stakeholders. The survey results highlighted significant gaps in knowledge and implementation, particularly among stakeholders. Key challenges identified included cultural attitudes toward safety, lack of training, and inadequate use of fire-resistant materials. The framework proposes a structured methodology for enhancing fire safety measures across the design stages, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among architects, engineers, safety consultants, and regulatory bodies. Recommendations include regular updates to fire safety documents, fostering a culture of safety awareness, and conducting post-occupancy evaluations to assess the effectiveness of implemented measures. Ultimately, this research aims to benefit various stakeholders, including design professionals and regulatory agencies, by promoting a proactive approach to fire safety that enhances building resilience and protects lives and property in commercial environments. Background: Breast cancer survivorship extends beyond physical recovery to include psychological and social adjustment, particularly how women construct and perceive their identity as survivors. While survivor identity has been widely studied in high-income countries, there is limited evidence from African contexts. This review synthesizes existing literature on breast cancer survivor identity in Africa, with a focus on patterns of self-perception, associated psychosocial factors, and implications for survivorship care. Methods: A systematic search was conducted across PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, African Index Medicus, and grey literature for studies published between 2010 and 2026. Eligible studies reported primary data on survivorship and survivor identity among African women with Breast Cancer. Two reviewers independently screened studies, extracted data, and assessed methodological quality using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). Confidence in qualitative findings was evaluated using the CERQual approach. Results: Of 32 records identified, seven studies met the inclusion criteria, representing Nigeria, Ethiopia, Botswana, and South Africa. Most studies employed qualitative methodologies, including grounded theory, phenomenology, interviews, and focus groups, with two incorporating quantitative or mixed methods. Key psychosocial domains included self-identity, coping strategies, social support, quality of life, and body image. Three overarching survivor identity patterns were identified: (1) Embracing/Constructive, characterized by acceptance of the survivor identity and its integration into personal growth and empowerment; (2) Ambiguous/Fluctuating, reflecting uncertainty and shifting between patient and survivor identities; and (3) Non-salient/Resisting, where the survivor identity was rejected or deemed irrelevant. Methodological appraisal indicated generally high study quality, with strong credibility and confirmability, though transferability was moderate. CERQual assessments indicated high confidence in findings related to embracing identity, moderate-to-high confidence for ambiguous identity, and moderate confidence for resisting identity. Conclusions: Breast cancer survivor identity among African women is diverse and shaped by cultural, psychosocial, and healthcare contexts. Constructive identity formation is associated with empowerment and personal growth, whereas ambiguous or resistant identities suggest ongoing psychosocial challenges. Interventions should incorporate psychosocial support, peer engagement, and culturally responsive survivorship programs to promote positive identity development. Future research should prioritize rural populations and longitudinal designs to better understand identity trajectories over time. Strengthening survivorship care in Africa requires a holistic approach that addresses both psychological and physical dimensions to enhance overall quality of life. Full article

The inclusion of children’s perspectives is increasingly emphasised in educational research; however, autistic children remain underrepresented as active participants, particularly in early educational contexts. This study synthesises methodological insights from two mixed-methods studies conducted in Swedish preschool and primary school settings to examine the conditions under which autistic children participate as contributors to research. A retrospective and reflexive methodological synthesis was employed, drawing on methodological documentation, video-recorded data, and researcher reflections from the original studies. The analysis examined how participation was designed, negotiated, and interpreted across contexts. The findings indicate that participation is not a binary feature of research design, but a graded, situated, and relational process shaped by accessibility, mediation, and contextual conditions. Accessibility functioned as an epistemic condition influencing what could be expressed and recognised as knowledge, while participation was continuously negotiated through interaction among children, adults, and research settings. Adult mediation both enabled and shaped participation, revealing inherent epistemic and ethical tensions. The study concludes that participation is more accurately understood as a methodological and relational accomplishment rather than an individual capacity, underscoring the need for flexible, reflexive research approaches that support diverse forms of expression while maintaining methodological quality and ethical integrity.
