Superb Fairy-wren Optimization Algorithm (SFOA) is an animal-based meta-heuristic algorithm derived from Fairy-wren’s behavior of growing, feeding, and avoiding natural enemies. The SFOA has some shortcomings when facing complex environments. Its switching mechanism is not enough to adapt to complex optimization problems, and it faces a weakening of population diversity in the late stage of optimization, leading to a higher possibility of falling into local optima. In addition, its global search ability needs to be improved. To address the above deficiencies, this paper proposes an Adaptive Superb Fairy-wren Optimization Algorithm (ASFOA). To assess the ability of the proposed ASFOA, three groups of experiments are conducted in this paper. Firstly, the effectiveness of the proposed improved strategies is checked on the CEC2018 test set. Second, the ASFOA is compared with eight classical/highly cited/newly proposed metaheuristics on the CEC2018 test set, in which the ASFOA performed the best overall, with average rankings of 1.621, 1.138, 1.483, and 1.966 in the four-dimensional cases, respectively. Then the convergence and robustness of ASFOA is verified on the CEC2022 test set. The experimental results indicate that the proposed ASFOA is a competitive metaheuristic algorithm variant with excellent performance in terms of convergence and distribution of solutions. In addition, we further validate the ability of ASFOA to solve real optimization problems. The average ranking of the proposed ASFOA on 10 engineering constrained optimization problems is 1.500. In summary, ASFOA is a promising variant of metaheuristic algorithms. Full article

The building sector holds a significant position in the global energy consumption share, and its environmental impact continues to intensify, making the construction industry a key player in sustainable development. The application of life cycle assessment on buildings (LCA-B) is widely employed to evaluate building energy and environment performance, and thus is of great significance for ensuring the sustainability of the project. This work aims to provide a systematic overview of LCA-B development based on reviewed literature. A three-stage mixed research method is adopted in this study: Firstly, an overall analysis framework is constructed, and 327 papers related to building life cycle assessment published between 2009 and 2025 are screened out by using the bibliometric method; Then, through scientometrics analysis, the journal regions, sources, scholars, and keyword evolution are revealed and analyzed using VOSviewer tool, and the hotspots in the field of LCA-B (e.g., integration of building information modeling (BIM) in LCA-B, multi-dimensional framework of environment–society–culture) are preliminarily explored based on the selected highly cited papers. The research finds that: (1) the performance of low energy buildings is better than that of net zero energy buildings from the perspective of LCA; (2) software compatibility and data exchange are the main obstacles in the integration of BIM-LCA; (3) a multi-dimensional LCA framework covering the social or cultural aspects is expected for a comprehensive assessment of building performance. This study provides a systematic analysis and elaboration of review articles related to LCA-B and thereby provides researchers with in-depth insight into this field. Full article

Extreme weather events pose increasing risks to air transport operations, affecting flight safety, scheduling, and infrastructure resilience. This paper provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of scientific literature addressing the impacts of extreme weather on aviation, based on 1000 documents retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (2010–2024). Using VOSviewer software, keyword co-occurrence, overlay visualization, co-authorship networks, and citation analyses were conducted. Results revealed a clear thematic shift from environmental impact assessments toward research emphasizing operational resilience, technological adaptation, and mitigation strategies. Collaboration networks highlighted strong international cooperation, particularly among institutions in the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom, with growing contributions from emerging research regions. Highly cited studies predominantly focused on emissions modeling and operational mitigation measures. Despite notable advances, the field remains fragmented and geographically uneven, underscoring the need for broader interdisciplinary integration and empirical validation of adaptation strategies. This paper offers a systematic overview of the evolving research landscape and identifies critical directions for future efforts to enhance the resilience and sustainability of global air transport systems under increasing climatic volatility. Objectives: This study utilized bibliometric and visualization analyses to explore global research trends and identify research hotspots in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for circulatory support to provide references and guidance for future research. Methods: This study was based on data from the Web of Science Core Collection, covering the period from 1945 to 1 August 2024. Bibliometric tools, such as VOSviewer and CiteSpace, were used to visualize the analysis of countries/regions, institutions, journals, co-cited references, and keywords in the relevant literature. Results: A total of 14,804 valid papers were included in the study. The research interest in ECMO support for circulatory failure has increased annually, with the United States being the most active in this field. The U.S. occupies most of the top journals and institutions, leading in both the volume of publications and the intensity of international collaboration. Although China has a relatively high number of publications, it lags significantly in international collaboration and representation in top journals. Keyword and citation burst analysis indicates that research on cardiac arrest, post-cardiac surgery circulatory failure, left ventricular unloading, and prognostic factors have been the focus of recent studies and are prevalent in highly impactful literature. Conclusion: The research interest in ECMO support for circulatory failure continues to rise, particularly in cardiac arrest, post-cardiac surgery circulatory failure, left ventricular unloading, and prognostic factors. Future research should investigate these key areas and optimize techniques to enhance the clinical outcomes. Full article

Isometric training is a method focused on muscle strengthening without joint movement and has gained attention in recent years due to its applicability in rehabilitation and sports medicine. However, no comprehensive bibliometric analysis focused exclusively on adult populations has been performed. This study aimed to analyze the scientific production related to isometric training in adults; identify prominent authors, journals, and thematic trends; and evaluate the evolution of interest in this field over time. A bibliometric review was performed using the Web of Science Core Collection (SCI-E, SSCI, and ESCI). A specific search strategy was applied to identify articles and reviews focused on isometric training in adult populations. A total of 238 records met the inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using Excel 2016 and VOSviewer software1.6.20. Bibliometric indicators such as Price’s Law, Bradford’s Law, Lotka’s Law, h-index, and co-occurrence and co-authorship network analysis were applied. The results showed a steady increase in publications in the last decade, highlighting the categories of Sports Science, Physiology, and Cardiovascular. The Journal of Applied Physiology was the most frequent source, and Springer Nature was the most prolific publisher. The h-index identified 21 highly cited papers, and Lotka’s Law confirmed the existence of a small group of prolific authors. VOSviewer analysis revealed clear thematic clusters, mainly around blood pressure regulation, rehabilitation, and aging. International collaboration was evident, with the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom leading the co-authorship networks. Scientific interest in isometric training for adult populations is growing, particularly in relation to cardiovascular health and rehabilitation. Despite this, gaps remain in terms of methodological consistency and standardized protocols. Addressing these issues could improve the applicability and scientific impact of this training modality. Recent advances in molecular studies on plant lipids have revealed novel functions, increasing interest in their roles in plant metabolic processes and food functionality. With evolving living standards, the demand for crop-derived polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) oil is increasing due to their benefits for cardiovascular health, brain function, and anti-inflammatory properties. Despite these benefits, there are gaps in comprehensive, integrated, and consolidated documents on recent advancements in crop biotechlogy, particularly concerning the biosynthesis of essential lipids. Such a document could provide valuable insights for researchers, breeders, and industry professionals seeking to enhance crop oil profiles and optimize the nutritional and functional qualities of plant-based foods. Therefore, this study aims to: (1) provide an updated review of crop lipid biosynthesis and (2) identify trending topics, key contributors, and institutions contributing to research on crop PUFAs, their health benefits, and genes associated with these functions. Methods: Systematic and mixed-method review approaches were used to gather the most recent evidence by identifying all relevant primary research studies on the specific review topic. Five databases were used in the process. Result and conclusion: 366 papers were identified, with 73 highly cited and recent ones focusing on crop PUFA biosynthesis and genetic engineering. Key genes involved in lipid biosynthesis include FAD, TMT, HGG, GhKAR, GhHAD, and transcription factors like MYB89, MYB96, WRI, LEC, GL2, FUS3, and HB2 all critical for enhancing PUFA biosynthesis. However, challenges such as poor transgene expression, reduced seed germination, and metabolic toxicity must be addressed to develop crops with improved oil profiles. Full article

The inherent characteristics of blockchain, including immutability, self-execution, and the removal of intermediaries, consistently generate increasing interest in its applications within the telecom sector, making it an exciting area for investment. This literature review aims to explore a promising research area known as blockchain interoperability. Interoperability seeks to connect two or more independent blockchains to effectively exchange information. Through leveraging the interoperability features of blockchain, independent telecom networks can seamlessly share information with other mobile, fixed, and next-generation networks. This results in improved security and efficiency, cost savings, and an enhanced customer experience. This study reviews highly cited research papers in the literature to assess blockchain’s relevance to telecom use cases for interoperability. Additionally, it presents prominent interoperability solutions and identifies essential requirements for the successful implementation of blockchain interoperability in the telecom sector. The findings highlight key research gaps and future directions for the adoption of blockchain in telecommunications, particularly for the forthcoming sixth generation (6G). Full article

This paper addresses the challenges in extracting content words within the domains of natural language processing (NLP) and artificial intelligence (AI), using sustainable development goals (SDGs) corpora as verification examples. Traditional corpus-based methods and the term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) method face limitations, including the inability to automatically eliminate function words, effectively extract the relevant parameters’ quantitative data, simultaneously consider frequency and range parameters to evaluate the terms’ overall importance, and sort content words at the corpus level. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a novel method based on a weighted aggregated sum product assessment (WASPAS) technique. This NLP method integrates the function word elimination method, an NLP machine, and the WASPAS technique to improve the extraction and ranking of content words. The proposed method efficiently extracts quantitative data, simultaneously considers frequency and range parameters to evaluate terms’ substantial importance, and ranks content words at the corpus level, providing a comprehensive overview of term significance. This study employed a target corpus from the Web of Science (WOS), comprising 35 highly cited SDG-related research articles. Compared to competing methods, the results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms traditional methods in extracting and ranking content words. Full article

This paper presents a comprehensive review of the intelligent algorithms (IAs) based optimization of electric vehicle (EV) wireless charging. First, a general overview of EV wireless charging system is introduced in terms of the compensation circuit, coupling coils, and control strategies, followed by the potential application of IAs. Then, the optimization target, parameter optimization, and structure design of the compensation topologies based on IAs are elaborately expounded by citing current research findings. Subsequently, the IAs are deeply explored for optimizing the systematic parameters, structural geometries, and coupling coils. Then, the IA-based research on the control strategies in the wireless charging system is discussed in detail from three aspects, including power controlling, efficiency optimizing, and parameter tracking. Finally, the prospects for the application of IAs to the EV wireless charging system are summarized and delineated. This paper will be highly beneficial to research entities as a ready reference for the wireless charging system of EVs, with information on IA-based system design. Full article

In recent years, the applications of digital technologies in sustainable construction have gained increasing interest. However, no comprehensive literature review has been conducted. Thus, this paper analyzes 990 relevant articles in this regard published from 2014 to 2023 by using CiteSpace (version 6.3.R1) and HistCite (version Pro 2.1) and identifies the most influential journals, institutions, and regions. The knowledge base was detected through a cluster analysis, which concentrates more on seven core themes: barriers, energy efficiency and building energy performance, life cycle assessment, computer vision, renovation, building sustainability assessment, and management. A citation analysis revealed that the applications of digital technologies were based in four dimensions of sustainable construction: environmental, social, and economic performance and green building assessment are the current hotspots. Finally, the potential future research trends in this field were proposed: (1) strengthening research on the application of more digital technologies; (2) expanding the use of digital technologies in the Operation and Maintenance (O & M) and demolition phases; (3) deepening the research on multi-objective optimization; and (4) exploring how to overcome obstacles. The findings provide highly valuable information for researchers with current research ideas and future directions in this field. This paper also has the potential to deepen practitioners’ comprehension of optimal digital technologies for bolstering construction sustainability. Full article

Objectives: This study conducts a bibliometric analysis to map key trends in the digitalization of medicine, a rapidly evolving field that incorporates advancements such as artificial intelligence, telemedicine, and Big Data. The analysis aims to identify the most prolific authors, highly cited works, leading countries, and contributions from research institutions, while also exploring emerging trends through keyword analysis. Methods: A dataset comprising 2606 scientific papers was retrieved from the Web of Science database. The analysis was performed using bibliometric techniques and VOSviewer software to evaluate citation patterns, author productivity, country activity, and institutional contributions. Results: The findings reveal a substantial increase in research activity on the digitalization of medicine, with notable contributions from Germany, the USA, and China. These countries host leading academic institutions actively driving the field. Keyword analysis highlights emerging trends in artificial intelligence, telemedicine, and Big Data. Extensive international collaborations further underscore the global nature of this research domain. This study provides a comprehensive overview of the evolution and current trends in the digitalization of medicine. Conclusions: It highlights the significant role of international collaboration and identifies key areas of development, offering valuable insights for future research directions in this dynamic sector. The rapid expansion of generative artificial intelligence tools for textual production, such as ChatGPT, has been accompanied by a proliferation of similar tools used for creating images, audiovisual content, and motion graphics. These tools, valued for their creativity, are increasingly employed in the fields of art, education, and entertainment to enhance content creation, particularly on social media, while also reducing production costs. However, their use is not without controversy, as they raise significant ethical concerns, including the potential for generating fake news and disinformation. This paper presents an analysis of higher education students’ perspectives on the use of generative artificial intelligence tools within the context of a university course. The research was conducted through semi-structured interviews with 10 fourth-year students from the Department of Communication and Digital Media at the University of Western Macedonia. The study aims to provide an initial understanding of the impact of these tools in both education and communication, focusing on students who are future professionals in the communication field. The interviews explored the potential benefits of these technologies, which were valued highly, and the challenges presented such as privacy and credibility issues, which concerned the participants. Misinformation and deception were cited as the most significant risks, while these tools were evaluated positively in terms of communicative purposes, but still maintaining skepticism. Full article

The apoplastic barriers, composed of Casparian strip (CS) and suberin lamellae (SL), are integral to the regulation of water and plant nutrient uptake in plants, as well as their resilience to abiotic stresses. This study systematically examines the research developments and emerging trends in this field from 2003 to 2023, utilizing bibliometric tools such as Web of Science, CiteSpace, and VOSviewer to analyze a dataset of 642 publications. This paper reviews the cooperation of different countries, institutions, and scholars in apoplastic barriers research based on cooperative network analysis. In the field, China has the highest number of publications, the University of Bolton has the highest number of publications, and Niko Geldner is the author with the maximum number of publications. Notably, 27 publications were identified as highly cited, with their research primarily focusing on (1) genes, proteins, enzymes, and hormones regulating the formation of apoplastic barriers; (2) the influence of adversity stress on apoplastic barriers; (3) the chemical components of apoplastic barriers; (4) the evaluations of research progress on apoplastic barriers. Combined with the keyword co-occurrence network diagram, it is proposed that future research directions in this field should be as follows: (1) physiological functions of apoplastic barriers in plant root; (2) differences in the formation of apoplastic barriers with different root systems; (3) methods to promote apoplastic barriers formation; and (4) application of molecular biology techniques. The Impact of BIM Technology on the Lifecycle Cost Control of Prefabricated Buildings: Evidence from China

Prefabricated construction has become a significant trend in the international building industry, yet its promotion in China faces cost challenges. This study explores the effect of building information modelling (BIM) technology on the various phases of prefabricated buildings, focusing on the entire lifecycle cost to reduce the overall cost. Key factors influencing the lifecycle as the whole cost control of prefabricated buildings are identified via the top 35 highly cited BIM papers; 15 experts were invited to evaluate the factors influencing the lifecycle cost control of prefabricated buildings, and 22 factors were identified to construct the surveys. The results of 364 valid questionnaires were analysed. Research indicates that BIM significantly impacts cost control across various stages of the lifecycle of prefabricated buildings. BIM’s impact on cost control, ranked from highest to lowest, is as follows: construction and installation phase, production and transportation phase, operational maintenance phase, and design phase. By minimising costs at each stage, BIM enhances design efficiency, simulates production and logistics, reduces rework during construction, and, when integrated with artificial intelligence, BIM optimises operation and maintenance management. Leveraging BIM technology to its full potential effectively reduces the lifecycle costs of prefabricated buildings. Full article

Multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) is necessary for choosing one from the available alternatives (or from the Pareto-optimal solutions obtained by multi-objective optimization), where the performance of each alternative is quantified against several criteria (or objectives). This paper presents a comprehensive review of the application of MCDM methods in chemical and process engineering. It systematically outlines the essential steps in MCDM including the various normalization, weighting, and MCDM methods that are critical to decision making. The review draws on published papers identified through a search in the Scopus database, focusing on works by authors with more contributions to the field and on highly cited papers. Each selected paper was analyzed based on the MCDM, normalization, and weighting methods used. Additionally, this paper introduces two readily available programs for performing MCDM calculations. In short, it provides insights into the MCDM steps and methods, highlights their applications in chemical and process engineering, and discusses the challenges and prospects in this area.
