Background and Objectives: The dopamine D2 receptor (DRD2) plays a central role in fronto-striatal circuits regulating cognitive control and reward processing. The rs1076560 polymorphism alters receptor isoform expression, potentially modifying impulsivity and vulnerability to stimulant use disorders. We examined gene–environment interactions between rs1076560 and stimulant dependence in relation to impulsivity, ADHD traits, and hedonic capacity. Methods: A total of 517 men (235 stimulant-dependent, 282 controls) completed the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS-11), Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS v1.1), and Snaith–Hamilton Pleasure Scale (SHAPS). Genotyping for rs1076560 was performed using real-time PCR, and two-way ANOVAs tested genotype-by-group effects. Results: Significant genotype-by-group interactions were observed across all BIS-11 subscales and ASRS scores. In the stimulant-dependent group, C/C homozygotes showed the highest levels of attentional impulsivity and attentional dysregulation compared to both A/C and C/C controls. In contrast, within the control group, A/A homozygotes demonstrated higher motor impulsivity, non-planning impulsivity, and BIS-11 total scores than C/C controls. No significant main effects or interactions were found for SHAPS scores. Conclusions: DRD2 rs1076560 moderates impulsivity-related traits through dopaminergic pathways relevant to executive dysfunction in stimulant use disorders. These findings highlight a neurobiological mechanism of addiction vulnerability and may inform precision approaches in neurology and psychiatry. Full article

The persistent challenge of designing digital interfaces that minimize users’ perceived waiting time remains critical for user satisfaction and conversion rates. This research integrates Attentional Gate Theory to investigate how loading animation type (static vs. dynamic) influences perceived waiting duration through temporal attention focus, and examines moderating roles of task involvement and browsing goal orientation. Across four online experiments—Study 1 (N = 198, MTurk) tested the main effect of animation type; Study 2 (N = 411, Prolific) validated full mediation via temporal attention focus using PROCESS analysis; Study 3 (2 × 2 design, N = 400, Prolific) examined task involvement as a moderator; and Study 4 (2 × 2 design, N = 400, Prolific) explored hedonic versus utilitarian browsing goals—the dynamic animation consistently shortened perceived waiting time relative to static displays. Mediation analyses confirmed that reduced temporal attention focus fully explains this effect, which is amplified under low task involvement and hedonic browsing but attenuated when involvement is high or goals are utilitarian. Theoretically, this work extends Attentional Gate Theory to user experience design by uncovering cognitive processes underlying time perception during waits. Managerially, it offers evidence-based recommendations for tailoring loading animations to user context, ultimately enhancing satisfaction and reducing abandonment. Full article

This study investigates how multidimensional value and experience quality shape satisfaction and loyalty in shopping tourism. We extend the QVSL tradition by (i) specifying three hedonic value dimensions (entertainment, exploration, escapism), (ii) differentiating functional value into performance-oriented and money-saving facets, and (iii) incorporating epistemic value and experience quality as additional antecedents. We also model immediate behavioral outcomes (i.e., money spent and time spent) and test involvement as a moderating condition. Using path analysis on data from 413 mainland Chinese tourists in Japan, findings confirm that entertainment, functional value (for performance and money), epistemic value, and experience quality enhance shopping satisfaction. Functional values, epistemic value, and satisfaction drive destination loyalty. Money and time spent are additional outcomes of satisfaction. Involvement moderates the link between satisfaction and money spent. These insights offer strategic implications for Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) and retailers to optimize shopping environments and employee services, increasing tourist satisfaction, loyalty, and both time and money spent in the competitive shopping tourism market. Limitations include the cross-sectional design and the use of composite-indicator path analysis; future research could apply longitudinal or full SEM approaches, broaden contexts, and test additional constructs. Background: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) affects up to 40% of patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD), yet conventional rehabilitation often lacks engagement. The OPERA project developed a novel Bio-cooperative Robotic Platform (PRoBio), integrating a service robot and a virtual reality-based rehabilitation for personalized cognitive training. This work presents two preliminary user-centred studies aimed to assess PRoBio usability and acceptability. Methods: to gather qualitative feedback on robotic and virtual reality technologies, through ad hoc questionnaires, developed according to participatory design principles and user-centered evaluation literature, Study 1 (Focus group) involved 23 participants: 10 PD patients (F = 6; mean age = 68.9 ± 8.2 years), 5 caregivers (F = 3; mean age = 49.0 ± 15.5), 8 healthcare professionals (F = 6; mean age = 40.0 ± 12.0). Study 2 (Living Lab) tested the final version of PRoBio platform with 6 healthy volunteers (F = 3; mean age = 50.3 ± 11.0) and 8 rehabilitation professionals (F = 3; mean age = 32.8 ± 9.9), assessing usability and acceptability through validated questionnaires. Results: The focus group revealed common priorities across the three groups, including ease of use, emotional engagement, and personalization of exercises. Living Lab unveiled PRoBio as user-friendly, with high usability, hedonic quality, technology acceptance and low workload. No significant differences were found between groups, except for minor concerns on system responsiveness. Discussion: These preliminary findings support the feasibility, usability, and emotional appeal of PRoBio as a cognitive rehabilitation tool. The positive convergence among the groups suggests its potential for clinical integration. Conclusions: These preliminary results support the feasibility and user-centred design of the PRoBio platform for cognitive rehabilitation in PD. The upcoming usability evaluation in a pilot study with patients will provide critical insights into its suitability for clinical implementation and guide further development. Full article

This study investigates the perceptions of halal food among theology students from three culturally diverse cities: Istanbul, Berlin, and Kuala Lumpur. As individuals receiving formal religious education, theology students are expected to exhibit strong awareness of Islamic dietary principles. Utilizing a quantitative research design, data were collected from 210 participants via online surveys using validated Likert-type scales measuring halal awareness, halal literacy, religious commitment, social influence, perceived behavioral control, price value, hedonic motivation, and consumption habits. One-way ANOVA and post hoc Tukey tests revealed significant differences between cities in nearly all variables. Students in Kuala Lumpur consistently demonstrated higher scores, indicating a stronger alignment with institutionalized halal systems and collectivist cultural norms. Berlin participants reported lower awareness and influence levels, likely reflecting a more secular and individualistic environment. Istanbul students fell between the two, showing strong religious motivation but less structural support. The findings highlight how halal food perceptions are shaped not only by individual religiosity but also by cultural, political, and economic contexts. This study contributes to the literature by offering a cross-cultural perspective on halal consumption and underscores the importance of integrating structural and cultural factors into religious food behavior research. As urbanization intensifies, the challenge of preserving industrial heritage while fostering authentic intergenerational connections has become increasingly salient. This study investigates how artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) technologies can be applied to enhance authenticity and promote both hedonic and eudaimonic well-being within the context of heritage tourism. Using a facility in Shanghai as a case study, we propose a cultural co-creation mechanism that transforms implicit intergenerational memories into shared cultural resources through digital interaction. The study first evaluates public awareness and participation needs in the context of industrial heritage revitalization. In response, we design an immersive platform that enables visitors of different generations to co-create meaning through historical scene reconstruction, multisensory engagement, and collaborative storytelling. A novel five-sense encoding strategy is introduced to reinterpret the enclosed spatial characteristics of industrial architecture as an experiential form of storytelling. This process fosters a deeper connection to place, contributing to authenticity and well-being. Prototype testing results suggest that this AI-AR-enabled co-creation system supports meaningful cultural attachment, improves authenticity, and facilitates the sustainable transmission of heritage. This research provides a replicable model for integrating digital technology, community participation, and authenticity in the well-being-oriented revitalization of industrial heritage sites. With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, the deployment of social robots has significantly broadened, extending into diverse fields such as education, medical services, and business. Despite this expansive growth, there remains a notable scarcity of empirical research addressing the underlying psychological mechanisms that influence human–robot interactions. To address this critical research gap, the present study proposes and empirically tests a theoretical model designed to elucidate how users’ multi-dimensional perceived values of social robots influence their attitudinal responses and outcomes. Based on questionnaire data from 569 social robot users, the study reveals that users’ perceived utilitarian value, emotional value, and hedonic value all exert significant positive effects on active involvement, thereby fostering their identification and reinforcing attitudinal loyalty. Among these dimensions, emotional value emerged as the strongest predictor, underscoring the pivotal role of emotional orientation in cultivating lasting human–robot relationships. Furthermore, the findings highlight the critical mediating function of active involvement in linking perceived value to users’ psychological sense of belonging, thereby elucidating the mechanism through which perceived value enhances engagement and promotes sustained long-term interaction. These findings extend the conceptual boundaries of human–machine interaction, offer a theoretical foundation for future explorations of user psychological mechanisms, and inform strategic design approaches centered on emotional interaction and user-oriented experiences, providing practical guidance for optimizing social robot design in applications. This study investigates the adoption of PyChatAI, a bilingual AI-powered chatbot for Python programming education, among female computer science students at Jouf University. Guided by the Technology Acceptance Model 3 (TAM3), it examines the determinants of user acceptance and usage behaviour. A Solomon Four-Group experimental design (N = 300) was used to control pre-test effects and isolate the impact of the intervention. PyChatAI provides interactive problem-solving, code explanations, and topic-based tutorials in English and Arabic. Measurement and structural models were validated via Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), achieving excellent fit (CFI = 0.980, RMSEA = 0.039). Results show that perceived usefulness (β = 0.446, p < 0.001) and perceived ease of use (β = 0.243, p = 0.005) significantly influence intention to use, which in turn predicts actual usage (β = 0.406, p < 0.001). Trust, facilitating conditions, and hedonic motivation emerged as strong antecedents of ease of use, while social influence and cognitive factors had limited impact. These findings demonstrate that AI-driven bilingual tools can effectively enhance programming engagement in gender-specific, culturally sensitive contexts, offering practical guidance for integrating intelligent tutoring systems into computer science curricula. Frying is one of the most widely used cooking techniques, and olive oil is considered a suitable medium due to its high monounsaturated fatty acid content and natural antioxidants. Different olive oil categories vary in quality and price, yet their impact on fried food quality remains underexplored. This study used commercial chicken nuggets, a product commonly fried at home (180 °C), to evaluate how extra virgin, refined, and pomace olive oils influence nutritional (moisture, fat, and fatty acids), physicochemical (mechanical and acoustic properties, colour, and volatiles), and sensory attributes (Rate-All-That-Apply and hedonic tests). Overall, oil type produced minimal differences. Fat content did not vary (18.00–18.58 g/100 g), and although some fatty acid differences were significant, they were nutritionally negligible. Instrumental colour and most texture parameters were also unaffected. Volatile analysis showed terpenes as the most abundant class, with significantly higher levels in nuggets fried in extra virgin olive oil (344.8) compared with refined and pomace oils, which were similar (218.6 and 172.8, respectively). Nuggets fried in pomace olive oil were more often associated with toasted and burnt notes, supported by higher pyrazine levels (124.8 vs. 80.1 and 33.5), yet overall liking did not differ significantly (6.4 vs. 6.7 and 6.8). These results suggest that pomace olive oil, being considerably more affordable, represents a cost-effective frying alternative without compromising product quality. Full article

Augmented reality (AR) technologies—such as Instagram filters—bridge the digital and physical worlds by allowing users to virtually try on clothing, thereby reducing the risk of virus transmission. In the T-shirt retail industry, AR enables product personalization, decreases the need for physical production, minimizes textile waste, and lowers carbon emissions. It also benefits individuals with limited mobility or those who prefer shopping online. This study tested several hypotheses on 105 active Instagram filter users using filters from the ’Apprecio’ account on mobile devices. Data analyzed using the partial least squares method revealed that interactivity significantly influences both purchase intention and continued use of digital platforms. While hedonic and vivid features enhance the user experience, they have a limited impact on driving purchases or long-term engagement. Customers’ engagement and buying intent are more strongly shaped by practical and interactive elements. The study recommends that companies invest in developing interactive AR features to boost customer satisfaction and foster trust. Future research should involve larger participant samples and investigate specific interactive elements—such as virtual try-on tools—to better understand their impact on consumer behavior. This study highlights the critical role of interactivity in AR for delivering meaningful and engaging shopping experiences. Full article

Grape pomace (i.e., the residual skins, seeds, and pulp left after vinification) retains up to 70% of the fruit’s original phenolic compounds and is also rich in dietary fiber. As such, because this by-product is generated in large quantities worldwide and its disposal is both technologically problematic and costly, reusing it as a food ingredient could simultaneously mitigate environmental burdens, lower winery waste-management expenses, and enhance the nutritional profile of fortified foods. In this context, this study investigated the nutritional enrichment of dark chocolate by incorporating flour produced from red (cv. Syrah) and white (cv. Arinto) grape pomace at three levels (5, 10, and 15% w/w). Formulated chocolates and controls were manufactured under industrial tempering conditions and subsequently analyzed for protein, lipids, sugars, dietary fiber, total phenolic content, antioxidant capacity (DPPH and ORAC), color, texture, and consumer perception (hedonic test). All fortified samples showed higher fiber and antioxidant activity than the control, with “White_15” showing higher fiber content (43.1%) and “Red_5” for ORAC (69,483 µmol TE/100 g) and DPPH (6587 µmol TE/100 g). Dietary fiber showed an increase in content with the increase in grape pomace incorporation, regardless of the type (red or white). Texture softening was observed in all fortified chocolates independently of the incorporation level or type (red or white). Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and hierarchical clustering confirmed clear separation between control and fortified chocolates based on the parameters analyzed. Sensory evaluation with untrained panelists revealed good overall acceptability across all formulations. These findings demonstrate that grape pomace flour can be effectively valorized as a functional ingredient in dark chocolates, supporting circular economy practices in the wine and confectionery sectors while delivering products with enhanced health-promoting attributes (nutritional and antioxidant). Background: Problematic Internet gaming (PIG), considered an early stage of Internet gaming addiction (IGA), has become increasingly prevalent among adolescents. This study focused on deviant peer affiliation (DPA) and hedonic gaming experience (HGE) as key mediators and examined four psychosocial risk factors closely related to them: interpersonal incompetence (II), perceived stress (PS), frustration (FR), and emotional loneliness (EL). Specifically, the study investigated how these four psychosocial risk factors influence adolescents’ DPA, HGE, and PIG, and whether DPA and HGE mediate these relationships. Methods: Based on existing validated scales, we developed a questionnaire to measure these seven constructs (II, PS, FR, IC, DPA, HGE, and PIG), proposed 14 hypotheses, and collected 214 valid responses from adolescents. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test the hypothesized model. Findings: The results showed that all 14 hypotheses were supported. Specifically, interpersonal incompetence significantly predicted perceived stress; stress led to frustration; and frustration, in turn, contributed to emotional loneliness. Furthermore, all four psychosocial risk factors significantly predicted deviant peer affiliation, hedonic gaming experience, and ultimately, problematic Internet gaming among adolescents. Both DPA and HGE mediated the effects of psychosocial risk factors on adolescent problematic Internet gaming (PIG), with the model explaining moderate-to-high variance. This study highlights the importance of segmenting adolescents into more specific subgroups based on the distinct developmental pathways leading to PIG. Implications: Understanding the step-by-step mechanisms and psychological drivers of different adolescent subtypes can provide a more solid foundation for early identification and targeted intervention efforts. Against the backdrop of the low-altitude economy, with the widespread application of drones in sports scenarios, the driving mechanism of users’ long-term usage intention has become a key issue in technology adoption research. To investigate the critical factors influencing the continuous use of drone products by sports-involved populations, this study builds a factor model for users’ continuous use of drones. It is based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, integrating the UTAUT2 model and specific user needs in sports scenarios. Both traditional structural equation modeling (SEM) and Bayesian structural equation modeling (BSEM) are employed for empirical testing. Through the analysis of 297 valid questionnaire responses, it is found that the Bayesian approach yields a better fit. Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Social Influence, Facilitating Conditions, Hedonic Motivation, Safety and Environmental Compatibility all exert significant positive impacts on users’ continuous usage intention, with Effort Expectancy having the most prominent influence. On this basis, service strategies for drone brands are proposed to support product design and service provision. This study preliminarily indicates that Bayesian analysis possesses advantages and potential in this field. Meanwhile, the factor model for users’ long-term drone usage can meet the development needs in sports scenarios, and it has strong feasibility as a design model for users’ long-term drone usage. This study focuses on the design, development and quality assessment of an innovative shelf-stable olive paste dip, aiming at the valorization of by-products of tomato processing and olive oil production (Product 1: OPD). Bioactive compounds (BACs), i.e., total carotenoids and phenolic components, were extracted from tomato and olive pomace, respectively. For further enrichment, BACs were incorporated in olive paste dips into a second product (OPDEnr) in encapsulated form (Product 2: OPDEnr). The total carotenoids (TC) of OPD and OPDEnr were 20.0 ± 2.0 and 30.2 ± 1.0 mg/kg, respectively. Similarly, the total phenolic content (TPC) and the antioxidant activity (AA) were 1.62 ± 0.08 and 3.05 ± 0.10 mg GAE/g, and 0.801 ± 0.075 and 0.976 ± 0.032 mg Trolox/g, respectively. The quality of the developed olive paste dip product prototypes was assessed using the Accelerated Shelf Life Testing (ASLT) methodology at a temperature range of 20–40 °C. Both OPDEnr and OPD were microbiologically stable during storage (i.e., not exceeding 4 logCFU/g for total mesophilic counts), and no lipid oxidation evolution was observed (Peroxide Value, PV did not exceed 4 meq O2/kg), while TC, TPC and AA values remained stable. The shelf life of OPDEnr and OPD was determined based on the overall sensory quality and was found to be 120 and 211 d at 25 °C, respectively. OPDEnr and OPD were characterized by a high quality (color and texture), with an overall sensory score of 8.0/9.0 and 9.0/9.0, respectively, in the acceptability–hedonic scale 1 (dislike extremely)-9 (like extremely), and they could potentially be consumed as an antioxidant-enriched olive paste dip. Currently, there is an increasing demand for plant-based and low-fat snacks. Non-conventional starch and grains are alternative ingredients. Environmentally friendly processing, such as liquid nitrogen and microwaves, can be used to obtain modified starch, as well as hot air frying to cook snacks. The aim of this work was to evaluate the impact of eco-friendly physical modification of starch from Oxalis tuberosa in a low-fat snack processed by hot air frying. First, native starch (NS) was treated with liquid nitrogen (LNS) and liquid nitrogen/microwaves (LNMS), and the amylose/amylopectin content and functional properties were determined. The snacks were formulated with NS or modified starches, amaranth flour, quinoa flour, corn, onion powder, salt, and water; the ingredients were mixed and placed in an electric pasta maker and cooked by hot air frying. The hardness, hedonic test, colorimetric parameters, acrylamide, proximal composition, and fatty acid profile were analyzed. All starches showed similar values of amylose and amylopectin content. LNMS starch had the lowest water solubility index as compared to NS and LNS. The snacks with the starch modified with liquid nitrogen showed the highest values of hardness as well as the highest score for the texture from a hedonic test. The snacks with modified starches showed a lower browning index than the snack formulated with NS. Acrylamide was not detected in any snacks. The lipid value of the snacks with modified starch was 1.9–2.70 g/100 g of sample, providing ω-9, ω-6, and ω-3 fatty acids. All snacks contained 7.7 g of protein/100 g of sample. These low-fat and plant-based snacks are a healthy option made by environmentally friendly technologies. Full article
