Parental and peer support has been documented as an important factor in physical activities among high school students. Likewise, coach support has an important impact on physical activity among high school students. Meanwhile, many studies show that basic psychological needs have an essential effect on perceived autonomy and physical activity. As such, this study, using self-determination theory, aimed to explore the mediating role of basic psychological needs on physical activity among high school students in China. The Sport Climate Questionnaire, Psychological Need Satisfaction in Exercise Scale—Physical Activity, and the three-item Physical Activity Rating Scale-3 were employed to gauge responses from 736 high school students (15–18 years old). A structural equation model was employed to test the mediating effect. The researchers found a significant positive effect of perceived coach support on basic psychological need satisfaction. Basic psychological need satisfaction was also found to be a significant predictor of physical activity. Surprisingly, the results showed that perceived coach support negatively influences physical activity. As such, an indirect mediating effect is established. Basic psychological needs had an indirect mediating effect and could reduce the negative effect of coach support on physical activity engagement. Full article

In the current tide of technological revolution and industrial transformation, digitalization and greening have surfaced as two prominent trends, serving as the inherent requisites and impelling forces of new productive forces. Augmenting carbon emission efficiency is a crucial pathway for attaining green development. Digital inclusive finance, as an innovative financial paradigm, is a significant determinant influencing carbon emission efficiency and the progression of green development. By harnessing panel data from 108 cities within the Yangtze River Economic Belt spanning from 2011 to 2021, this study deploys the super-efficiency SBM model to gauge carbon emission efficiency. Additionally, it employs fixed effects and mediating mechanism models to empirically scrutinize the impact of digital inclusive finance on carbon emission efficiency within urban agglomerations in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. The study further probes its spatial effects through a spatial Durbin model. The research findings disclose that digital inclusive finance can substantially augment carbon emission efficiency in regional cities along the Yangtze River Economic Belt, manifesting notable regional correlations. This enhancement is accomplished by propelling industrial structure upgrades and augmenting scientific and technological capabilities. To enhance carbon emission efficiency in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, efforts should be centered around advancing digital inclusive finance, expediting industrial structural transformation, and fortifying scientific and technological development. Monitoring stress in captive fish is crucial for their welfare, but continuous physiological measures in unrestrained animals are challenging. Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) exhibit divergent personalities, ranging from bold to shy, which correlate with cortisol-mediated stress responses. To determine whether personality affects the sympathetic nervous system, heart rate was measured during three potentially stressful events as a proxy for sympathetic nervous system responses. Firstly, trout were classified as bold or shy, using a novel object test. Subsequently, trout were implanted with biologgers to record heart rate in vivo at rest during and after the behavioral tests. Following recovery, the fish underwent a second novel object test, a confinement test, a pair-wise contest, and a final novel object test to explore the degree of boldness over the experimental period, which remained consistent. Heart rate was relatively higher in both bold and shy animals during the confinement test and the pair-wise contest compared with the novel object test, which indicated that heart rate monitoring was a valid gauge of the valence of the experience. Heart rate responses did not differ between bold and shy trout, indicating that behavioral phenotype did not influence the autonomic stress response. Thus, heart rate is a reliable indicator of stress without the need to account for intra-specific behavioral variations. Full article

The development of low-temperature piezoresistive materials provides compatibility with standard silicon-based MEMS fabrication processes. Additionally, it enables the use of such material in flexible substrates, thereby expanding the potential for various device applications. This work demonstrates, for the first time, the fabrication of a 200 nm polycrystalline silicon thin film through a metal-induced crystallization process mediated by an AlSiCu alloy at temperatures as low as 450 °C on top of silicon and polyimide (PI) substrates. The resulting polycrystalline film structure exhibits crystallites with a size of approximately 58 nm, forming polysilicon (poly-Si) grains with diameters between 1–3 µm for Si substrates and 3–7 µm for flexible PI substrates. The mechanical and electrical properties of the poly-Si were experimentally conducted using microfabricated test structures containing piezoresistors formed by poly-Si with different dimensions. The poly-Si material reveals a longitudinal gauge factor (GF) of 12.31 and a transversal GF of −4.90, evaluated using a four-point bending setup. Additionally, the material has a linear temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of −2471 ppm/°C. These results illustrate the potential of using this low-temperature film for pressure, force, or temperature sensors. The developed film also demonstrated sensitivity to light, indicating that the developed material can also be explored in photo-sensitive applications. Full article

Background: Bradykinin is an endogenously produced nonapeptide with many physiological and pathological functions that are mediated by two pharmacologically defined receptor subtypes, B1- and B2-receptors. Current studies sought to characterize the functional bradykinin (BK) receptors present in freshly isolated bovine ciliary muscle (BCM) using an organ-bath tissue contraction system. Methods: Cumulative longitudinal isometric tension responses of BCM strips (4–5 mm) were recorded before and after the addition of test compounds to BCM strips hooked up to an isometric strain gauge transducer system. Results: BK and its analogs (7–11 concentrations) contracted BCM in a biphasic concentration-dependent manner. The first high affinity/potency phase accounted for 40–60% of the maximal contraction by each of BK (potency, EC50 = 0.9 ± 0.3 nM), Lys-BK (EC50 = 0.7 ± 0.1 nM), Met-Lys-BK (EC50 = 1 ± 0.1 nM), Hyp3-BK (EC50 = 1 ± 0.2 nM), RMP-7 (EC50 = 3.5 ± 0.5 nM), and Des-Arg9-BK (EC50 = 10 ± 0.4nM) (mean ± SEM, n = 3–8). The second lower activity phase of contraction potency values for these peptides ranged between 100 nM and 3 µM. In the presence of a selective B1-receptor antagonist (R715; 0.1–10 µM), the concentration–response curves to Des-Arg9-BK (B1-receptor agonist) were still observed, indicating activation of B2-receptors by this kinin. Likewise, when B2-receptors were completely blocked by using a B2-selective antagonist (WIN-64338; 1–10 µM), BK still induced BCM contraction, now by stimulating B1-receptors. Conclusions: This agonist/antagonist profile of BCM receptors indicated the presence of both B1- and B2-receptor subtypes, both being responsible for contracting this smooth muscle. The BCM kinin receptors may be involved in changing the shape of the ocular lens to influence accommodation, and since the ciliary muscle is attached to the trabecular meshwork through which aqueous humor drains, endogenously released kinins may regulate intraocular pressure. The level of success in tourism is gauged by several metrics; however, the most widely used is the level of tourist arrivals. However, this research answered the call for greater investigation of the impacts of qualitative factors and intangible cultural–heritage assets on destination performance. The primary research purpose was to analyze the effect of implementing a local well-being philosophy (Tri Hita Karana) on tourist revisit intentions for Bali and the mediation of destination quality and destination image. A research model was developed to examine the relationships among local wisdom (TKH), destination quality, destination image, and revisit intentions. Data were collected via a survey of 520 digital nomadic tourists and analyzed using SmartPLS 4. The results indicated that the implementation of THK positively and significantly affected revisit intentions, destination image, and destination quality. Destination image and destination quality had positive and significant effects on revisit intentions, and destination image and destination quality also significantly mediated the effect of THK implementation on revisit intentions. The findings suggested that implementing local wisdom values such as THK in the management of a destination makes visitors feel more favorably about the quality and image of the destination and they have the intention to revisit. Lung cancer is a leading cause of mortality worldwide, especially among Asian patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations. Initially, first-generation EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are commonly administered as the primary treatment option; however, encountering resistance to these medications poses a significant obstacle. Hence, it has become crucial to address initial resistance and ensure continued effectiveness. Recent research has focused on the role of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in tumor drug resistance, especially lncRNA H19. β-elemene, derived from Curcuma aromatic Salisb., has shown strong anti-tumor effects. However, the relationship between β-elemene, lncRNA H19, and gefitinib resistance in NSCLC is unclear. This study aims to investigate whether β-elemene can enhance the sensitivity of gefitinib-resistant NSCLC cells to gefitinib and to elucidate its mechanism of action. The impact of gefitinib and β-elemene on cell viability was evaluated using the cell counting kit-8 (CCK8) assay. Furthermore, western blotting and qRT-PCR analysis were employed to determine the expression levels of autophagy-related proteins and genes, respectively. The influence on cellular proliferation was gauged through a colony-formation assay, and apoptosis induction was quantified via flow cytometry. Additionally, the tumorigenic potential in vivo was assessed using a xenograft model in nude mice. The expression levels of LC3B, EGFR, and Rab7 proteins were examined through immunofluorescence. Our findings elucidate that the resistance to gefitinib is intricately linked with the dysregulation of autophagy and the overexpression of lncRNA H19. The synergistic administration of β-elemene and gefitinib markedly attenuated the proliferative capacity of resistant cells, expedited apoptotic processes, and inhibited the in vivo proliferation of lung cancer. Notably, β-elemene profoundly diminished the expression of lncRNA H19 and curtailed autophagic activity in resistant cells, thereby bolstering their responsiveness to gefitinib. Moreover, β-elemene disrupted the Rab7-facilitated degradation pathway of EGFR, facilitating its repositioning to the plasma membrane. β-elemene emerges as a promising auxiliary therapeutic for circumventing gefitinib resistance in NSCLC, potentially through the regulation of lncRNA H19-mediated autophagy. The participation of Rab7 in this dynamic unveils novel insights into the resistance mechanisms operative in lung cancer, paving the way for future therapeutic innovations. Full article

Understanding local history is fundamental to fostering a comprehensive global viewpoint. As technological advances shape our pedagogical tools, Virtual Reality (VR) stands out for its potential educational impact. Though its promise in educational settings is widely acknowledged, especially in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields, there is a noticeable decrease in research exploring VR’s efficacy in arts. The present study examines the effects of VR-mediated interventions on cultural education. In greater detail, secondary school adolescents (N = 52) embarked on a journey into local history through an immersive 360° VR experience. As part of our research approach, we conducted pre- and post-intervention assessments to gauge participants’ grasp of the content and further distributed psychometric instruments to evaluate their reception of VR as an instructional approach. The analysis indicates that VR’s immersive elements enhance knowledge acquisition but the impact is modulated by the complexity of the subject matter. Additionally, the study reveals that a tailored, context-sensitive, instructional design is paramount for optimising learning outcomes and mitigating educational inequities. This work challenges the “one-size-fits-all” approach to educational VR, advocating for a more targeted instructional approach. Consequently, it emphasises the need for educators and VR developers to collaboratively tailor interventions that are both culturally and contextually relevant. Full article

The study of the relationship between key psychological attributes of learners and their engagement in second language (L2) learning helps to understand the critical personality mechanisms influencing language learning. The present study examined the L2 learning engagement from the perspectives of grit (i.e., consistent efforts and interests devoted to a long-term goal) and affect balance (a notion that takes into account both positive and negative emotions concurrently, assessing and evaluating which side holds more significance or influence). A cohort of English L2 learners (N = 394) participated in an online survey aimed at gauging their levels of grit, affect balance, and engagement in L2 learning. The results indicated that grit and affect balance were significantly correlated with behavioral engagement and affective engagement in L2 learning. However, among the two components of grit, namely consistency of interest, showed no significant relationship with L2 learning engagement, while perseverance of effort was significantly positively correlated with L2 learning engagement. Affect balance played a partially mediating and full mediating role between perseverance of effort and behavioral engagement as well as affective engagement respectively. These findings confirm the crucial role of perseverance of effort in second language learning and reveal the unique role of affect balance in their relationship. Full article

Renal biopsies are the gold standard for diagnosis, staging, and prognosis of underlying parenchymal kidney disease. This article provides an overview of the current indications and highlights ways to reduce bleeding complications in order to achieve optimal diagnostic yield with minimal risk to the patient. Novel indications have emerged from the increasing use of new molecularly targeted oncologic therapies in recent years, which often induce immune-mediated renal disease. On the other hand, the detection of specific antibodies against target antigens on podocytes in the sera of patients with new-onset nephrotic syndrome has now relativized the indication for biopsy in membranous nephropathy. The use of semi-automatic spring-loaded biopsy devices and real-time ultrasound considerably declined the complication rate and is the current standard. Percutaneous renal biopsies are overall a safe procedure if contraindications are considered. A coagulation disorder needs to be excluded beforehand, and an elevated blood pressure must be reduced to the normotensive range with medications. A laparoscopic approach or a radiology interventional procedure through the internal jugular vein may be considered for obtaining a kidney tissue sample if there is an urgent indication and a bleeding tendency cannot be adequately corrected. Major bleeding after a percutaneous renal biopsy can usually be managed with selective arterial embolization of the injured renal vessel. The use of a 16-gauge needle is the most reasonable compromise between diagnostic benefit and risk of complication. In the routine diagnostic, the biopsy specimen is examined with light microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and electron microscopy. Combination with modern molecular pathology techniques will contribute to more precise insights into the development and progression of kidney disease, which will likely refine future treatments in nephrology. We investigated the effect of additional treatment with newer antidiabetic drugs on endothelium function and arterial stiffness in subjects with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) without cardiovascular diseases. A total of 89 participants, all users of CGMS (continuous monitoring glucose system), were randomized into three comparable groups, receiving empagliflozin (E; n = 30), receiving semaglutide (S; n = 30), and a control group (C; n = 29). At baseline and 12 weeks post treatment, we measured FMD (brachial artery flow-mediated dilation) and FBF (forearm blood flow as reactive hyperemia assessed with strain gauge plethysmography) as parameters of endothelial function, as well as pulse wave velocity (PWV) and peripheral resistance as parameters of arterial stiffness. Improvement in FMD was significant in both intervention groups compared to controls (E group 2.0-fold, p = 0.000 and S group 1.9-fold, p = 0.000), with no changes between those two groups (p = 0.745). During the evaluation of FBF, there were statistically insignificant improvements in both therapeutic groups compared to controls (E group 1.39-fold, p = 0.074 and S group 1.22-fold, p = 0.701). In arterial stiffness parameters, improvements were seen only in the semaglutide group, with a decline in peripheral resistance by 5.1% (p = 0.046). We can conclude that, for arterial stiffness, semaglutide seems better, but both drugs positively impact endothelial function and, thus, could also have a protective role in T1DM. Full article

We propose to embed the General NMSSM (Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model) into the deflected AMSB (Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking) mechanism with Yukawa/gauge deflection contributions. After the integration of the heavy messenger fields, the analytical expressions of the relevant soft SUSY breaking spectrum for General NMSSM at the messenger scale can be calculated. We find that successful EWSB (Electroweak Symmetry Breaking) and realistic low energy NMSSM spectrum can be obtained in some parameter regions. In addition, we find that the muon g2 anomaly and electron g2 anomaly (for positive central value electron g2 experimental data) can be jointly explained to 1σ and 2σ range, respectively. The Z3 invariant NMSSM, which corresponds to ξF=0 in our case, can also jointly explain the muon and electron anomaly to 1σ and 2σ range, respectively. Full article

Nanosuspension of Foeniculum Vulgare Promotes Accelerated Sensory and Motor Function Recovery after Sciatic Nerve Injury

The seed extract of Foeniculum vulgare (FV) was used for the preparation of a nanosuspension (NS) with an enhanced bioavailability of phytoconstituents. Subsequently, it was employed as a potent source of polyphenols, such as quercetin and kaempferol, to accelerate the regeneration and recovery of motor and sensory function in injured nerves. The NS was administered through daily gauging as NS1 (0.5 mg/mL) and NS2 (15 mg/mL), at a dose rate of 2 g/kg body weight until the end of the study. The NS-mediated retrieval of motor functions was studied by evaluating muscle grip strength and the sciatic functional index. The recovery of sensory functions was assessed by the hotplate test. Several well-integrated biochemical pathways mediate the recovery of function and the regeneration of nerves under controlled blood glucose and oxidative stress. Consequently, the NS-treated groups were screened for blood glucose, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and total oxidant status (TOS) compared to the control. The NS administration showed a significant potential to enhance the recuperation of motor and sensory functions. Moreover, the oxidative stress was kept under check as a result of NS treatments to facilitate neuronal generation. Thus, the nanoformulation of FV with polyphenolic contents accelerated the reclamation of motor and sensory function after nerve lesion. Full article

In gauge mediation models with multiple spurion fields breaking SUSY and the R-symmetry separately, we show that it is possible to generate gaugino masses in one loop if the R-charge arrangement satisfies a certain condition. The resulting gaugino masses are calculated and suppressed by a power of the messenger’s mass scale. We present two simple examples to demonstrate this possibility and discuss possible phenomenology implications. Full article

Most educators overlook the importance of corporal expression, even though it has been shown to have various advantages for children of all ages. In the teaching–learning process, teacher views and beliefs are crucial because they have a significant impact on students. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to analyze the existing differences in the perceptions of future teachers towards corporal expression according to their gender and educational specialty. A total of 437 aspiring Spanish instructors participated in the sample, selected by the convenience sampling method, and answered the Questionnaire to Assess Perceptions of Corporal Expression in Future Spanish Teachers to gauge their understanding of and preparation for corporal expression via Google Forms. The Mann–Whitney U test was employed to evaluate the possible differences between the diverse items and factors according to gender and educational specialty. The results displayed good perceptions of corporal expression throughout the sample, finding significant differences in most items and all the dimensions when education specialty is considered. Nevertheless, gender variables did not seem to mediate those perceptions. Therefore, university degrees oriented to education must include the same amount of content related to corporal expression to ensure adequate initial training regardless of the stage of education at which the teachers develop their academic activity.
