Background/Objectives: The automatic identification of coronary artery dominance holds critical importance for clinical decision-making in cardiovascular medicine, influencing diagnosis, treatment planning, and risk stratification. Traditional classification methods rely on the manual visual interpretation of coronary angiograms. However, current deep learning approaches typically classify right and left coronary artery angiograms separately. This study aims to develop and evaluate an integrated video-based deep learning framework for classifying coronary dominance without distinguishing between RCA and LCA angiograms. Methods: Three advanced video-based deep learning models—Temporal Segment Networks (TSNs), Video Swin Transformer (VST), and VideoMAEv2—were implemented using the MMAction2 framework. These models were trained and evaluated on a large dataset derived from a publicly available source. The integrated approach processes entire angiographic video sequences, eliminating the need for separate RCA and LCA identification during preprocessing. Results: The proposed framework demonstrated strong performance in classifying coronary dominance. The best test accuracies achieved using TSNs, Video Swin Transformer, and VideoMAEv2 were 87.86%, 92.12%, and 92.89%, respectively. Transformer-based models showed superior accuracy compared to convolution-based methods, highlighting their effectiveness in capturing spatial–temporal patterns in angiographic videos. Conclusions: This study introduces a unified video-based deep learning approach for coronary dominance classification, eliminating manual arterial branch separation and reducing preprocessing complexity. The results indicate that transformer-based models, particularly VideoMAEv2, offer highly accurate and clinically feasible solutions, contributing to the development of objective and automated diagnostic tools in cardiovascular imaging. Hand gesture recognition (HGR) takes a central role in human–computer interaction, covering a wide range of applications in the automotive sector, consumer electronics, home automation, and others. In recent years, accurate and efficient deep learning models have been proposed for real-time applications. However, the most accurate approaches tend to employ multiple modalities derived from RGB input frames, such as optical flow. This practice limits real-time performance due to intense extra computational cost. In this paper, we avoid the optical flow computation by proposing a real-time hand gesture recognition method based on RGB frames combined with hand segmentation masks. We employ a light-weight semantic segmentation method (FASSD-Net) to boost the accuracy of two efficient HGR methods: Temporal Segment Networks (TSN) and Temporal Shift Modules (TSM). We demonstrate the efficiency of the proposal on our IPN Hand dataset, which includes thirteen different gestures focused on interaction with touchless screens. The experimental results show that our approach significantly overcomes the accuracy of the original TSN and TSM algorithms by keeping real-time performance. Full article

The Two-stream convolution neural network (CNN) has proven a great success in action recognition in videos. The main idea is to train the two CNNs in order to learn spatial and temporal features separately, and two scores are combined to obtain final scores. In the literature, we observed that most of the methods use similar CNNs for two streams. In this paper, we design a two-stream CNN architecture with different CNNs for the two streams to learn spatial and temporal features. Temporal Segment Networks (TSN) is applied in order to retrieve long-range temporal features, and to differentiate the similar type of sub-action in videos. Data augmentation techniques are employed to prevent over-fitting. Advanced cross-modal pre-training is discussed and introduced to the proposed architecture in order to enhance the accuracy of action recognition. The proposed two-stream model is evaluated on two challenging action recognition datasets: HMDB-51 and UCF-101. The findings of the proposed architecture shows the significant performance increase and it outperforms the existing methods. Full article

The detection of pig behavior helps detect abnormal conditions such as diseases and dangerous movements in a timely and effective manner, which plays an important role in ensuring the health and well-being of pigs. Monitoring pig behavior by staff is time consuming, subjective, and impractical. Therefore, there is an urgent need to implement methods for identifying pig behavior automatically. In recent years, deep learning has been gradually applied to the study of pig behavior recognition. Existing studies judge the behavior of the pig only based on the posture of the pig in a still image frame, without considering the motion information of the behavior. However, optical flow can well reflect the motion information. Thus, this study took image frames and optical flow from videos as two-stream input objects to fully extract the temporal and spatial behavioral characteristics. Two-stream convolutional network models based on deep learning were proposed, including inflated 3D convnet (I3D) and temporal segment networks (TSN) whose feature extraction network is Residual Network (ResNet) or the Inception architecture (e.g., Inception with Batch Normalization (BN-Inception), InceptionV3, InceptionV4, or InceptionResNetV2) to achieve pig behavior recognition. A standard pig video behavior dataset that included 1000 videos of feeding, lying, walking, scratching and mounting from five kinds of different behavioral actions of pigs under natural conditions was created. The dataset was used to train and test the proposed models, and a series of comparative experiments were conducted. The experimental results showed that the TSN model whose feature extraction network was ResNet101 was able to recognize pig feeding, lying, walking, scratching, and mounting behaviors with a higher average of 98.99%, and the average recognition time of each video was 0.3163 s. The TSN model (ResNet101) is superior to the other models in solving the task of pig behavior recognition. Full article
