Designing automatic optimizing compilers is an advanced engineering process requiring a great deal of expertise, programming, testing, and experimentation. Maintaining the approach and adapting it to evolving libraries and environments is a time-consuming effort. In recent years, OpenAI has presented the GPT model, which is designed for many fields like computer science, image processing, linguistics, and medicine. It also supports automatic programming and translation between programming languages, as well as human languages. This article will verify the usability of the commonly known LLM model, GPT, for the non-trivial NPDP Nussinov’s parallel algorithm code within the OpenMP standard to create a parallel equivalent of CUDA for NVIDIA graphics cards. The goal of this approach is to avoid creating any post-processing scripts and writing any lines of target code. To validate the output code, we compare the resulting arrays with the ones calculated by the optimized code for the CPU generated employing the polyhedral compilers. Finally, the code will be checked for scalability and performance. We will concentrate on assessing the capabilities of GPT, highlighting common challenges that can be refined during future learning processes. This will enhance code generation for various platforms by leveraging the outcomes from polyhedral optimizers. Full article

In this article, we analyze the program codes generated automatically using three advanced optimizers: Pluto, Traco, and Dapt, which are specifically tailored for the NPDP benchmark set. This benchmark set comprises ten program loops, predominantly from the field of bioinformatics. The codes exemplify dynamic programming, a challenging task for well-known tools used in program loop optimization. Given the intricacy involved, we opted for three automatic compilers based on the polyhedral model and various loop-tiling strategies. During our evaluation of the code’s performance, we meticulously considered locality and concurrency to accurately estimate time and energy efficiency. Notably, we dedicated significant attention to the latest Dapt compiler, which applies space–time loop tiling to generate highly efficient code for the NPDP benchmark suite loops. By employing the aforementioned optimizers and conducting an in-depth analysis, we aim to demonstrate the effectiveness and potential of automatic transformation techniques in enhancing the performance and energy efficiency of dynamic programming codes. Studies have identified the interference of contextual factors that inhibit the effective implementation of Competency-based Management (CM) under the National Personnel Development Policy (NPDP) in the Brazilian public sector, though organizations have overcome these factors through various initiatives. This article proposes an integrated model that relates the factors that interfere with CM implementation with the initiatives adopted by public organizations to circumvent and overcome them. This qualitative study through documental research and interviews with those responsible for implementing CM in six organizations within the Brazilian public sector. Pre and post-categorical analysis have enabled the establishment of a relationship between the 20 categories identified and divided into four kinds of interfering factors and the 20 adopted initiatives identified in seven categories. It was identified that the organizational and departmental factors are the ones that most interfere with the implementation of CM in the public sector. The strategic role of the HR unit, capable of carrying out structural changes, was identified as the most important initiative to induce the implementation of CM. This study provides a model that integrates strategic, political, and instrumental thematics, showing how these aspects impact the effective implementation of CM, which helps HR managers to recognize the factors that are under their control and how to face them. Global differences in changes in the numbers of population-adjusted daily test-positive cases (NPDP) and deaths (NPDD) by COVID-19 were analyzed for 49 countries, including developed and developing countries. The changes as a proportion of national population were compared, adjusting by the beginning of test-positive cases increase (BPI) or deaths increase (BDI). Remarkable regional differences of more than 100-fold in NPDP and NPDD were observed. The trajectories of NPDD after BDI increased exponentially within 20 days in most countries. Machine learning analysis suggested that NPDD on 30 days after BDI was the highest in developed Western countries (1180 persons per hundred million), followed by countries in the Middle East (128), Latin America (97), and Asia (7). Furthermore, in Western countries with positive rates of the PCR test of less than 7.0%, the increase in NPDP was slowing-down two weeks after BPI, and subsequent NPDD was only 15% compared with those with higher positive rates, which suggested that the situation of testing might have affected the velocity of COVID-19 spread. The causes behind remarkable differences between regions possibly include genetic factors of inhabitants because distributions of the race and of the observed infection increasing rates were in good agreement globally. The joint effect of diet and leisure activity on cognitive function remains unknown. We aimed to verify the hypothesis that an active lifestyle reinforces the effect of the Nordic Prudent Dietary Pattern (NPDP) on cognitive function. A total of 2223 dementia-free Swedish adults aged ≥60 with Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores ≥27 were followed for an average of 6 years. MMSE was tested during follow-ups. Diet was assessed by food frequency questionnaire. The NPDP index was calculated and tertiled (low, moderate, and high adherence). Participation in physical, mental and social activities was trichotomised (low, moderate, and intense). An active lifestyle was defined based on the participation in each activity. Data were analyzed using mixed-effects models. Moderate-to-high adherence to NPDP was associated with a reduced decline in the MMSE score (β: 0.19, 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 0.14–0.24). This association became stronger when combined with moderate-to-intense physical (β: 0.34, 95% CI: 0.2–0.45), mental (β: 0.29, 95% CI: 0.21–0.37), or social (β: 0.27, 95% CI: 0.19–0.34) activities. An active lifestyle strengthened the effect of NPDP on cognitive function by two times, and further lowered risk of MMSE decline by 30%. Thus, an active lifestyle reinforces the effect of a healthy diet on preserved cognitive function, and further decreases the risk of cognitive decline. Full article

Appropriate dietary pattern for preserving cognitive function in northern Europe remains unknown. We aimed to identify a Nordic dietary pattern index associated with slower cognitive decline compared to the Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay, Mediterranean Diet, Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, and Baltic Sea Diet indices. A total of 2223 dementia-free adults aged ≥60 were followed for 6 years. Mini-Mental State Examination was administrated at baseline and follow-ups. Dietary intake was assessed by 98-item food frequency questionnaire, and the Nordic Prudent Dietary Pattern (NPDP) was identified. Data were analysed using mixed-effects and parametric survival models and receiver operating characteristic curves with adjustment for potential confounders. Moderate (β = 0.139, 95% CI 0.077−0.201) and high adherence (β = 0.238, 95% CI 0.175−0.300) to NPDP were associated with less cognitive decline compared to other four indices. High adherence to NPDP was also associated with the lowest risk of MMSE decline to ≤24 (HR = 0.176, 95% CI 0.080−0.386) and had the greatest ability to predict such decline (area under the curve = 0.70). Moderate-to-high adherence to the NPDP may predict a better-preserved cognitive function among older adults in Nordic countries. Regional dietary habits should be considered in developing dietary guidelines for the prevention of cognitive impairment and dementia. Full article
