Background: Canine parvovirus (CPV) is a highly pathogenic virus that predominantly affects puppies, with mortality rates exceeding 70%. Although commercial multivalent live attenuated vaccines (MLV) are widely employed, their efficacy is often compromised by maternal antibody interference. Consequently, the development of novel vaccines remains imperative for effective CPV control. Methods: Recombinant CPV VP2 protein (rVP2) and canine interlukine 12 protein (rcIL-12) were expressed using the Bac-to-Bac baculovirus expression system and the biological activity of these proteins was assessed through hemagglutination, Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK8) and IFN-γ induction assays. The combined immunoenhancement effect of rVP2 and rcIL-12 protein was evaluated in puppies. Results: Both rVP2 and rcIL-12 were successfully expressed and purified, exhibiting confirmed antigenicity, immunogenicity, and bioactivity. Co-administration of rVP2 with rcIL-12 elicited higher neutralizing antibody titer (6–7 times higher), complete challenge protection efficiency (no clinical symptoms and tissue and organ lesions), fewer viral shedding (decreasing significantly 8-day post challenge) and superior viral blockade (lower viral load in the organism) compared to rVP2 alone. Conclusions: Our findings demonstrate that rVP2 co-administered with rcIL-12 induces robust protective immunity in puppies and significantly mitigated the inhibitory effects of maternal antibodies. This represents a promising strategy for enabling earlier vaccination in puppies and rational design of CPV subunit vaccines. Full article

Premium fashion brands are increasingly adopting Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) to reduce costs and enhance creativity. However, consumers have mixed perceptions of clothing with AI-generated patterns (CAGPs) launched by premium fashion brands, especially in online shopping contexts where consumers cannot examine physical products firsthand. This study integrates the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) with Customer Perceived Value (CPV) to investigate Chinese Millennials’ attitudes and purchase intentions toward online purchases of CAGPs launched by premium fashion brands. Using a purposive sampling approach, the study collected 471 valid responses from Chinese Millennials. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was then employed to test the proposed model and hypotheses. The results reveal that perceived brand design effort and perceived price value are primary drivers of purchase intention for CAGPs from premium fashion brands, while perceived aesthetic value significantly shapes consumer attitudes. The subjective norm and attitude positively influence purchase intention. This study sheds light on the roles of aesthetic, emotional, monetary and social factors in driving purchase intention, offering practical suggestions for premium brands’ product design and marketing strategies. The development of ultrahigh-concentration photovoltaic (UHCPV) systems plays a pivotal role in advancing sustainable solar energy technologies. As the demand for clean energy grows, the need to align concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) system design with high-efficiency solar cell production becomes critical for maximizing energy yield while minimizing resource use. Despite some experimental efforts in UHCPV development, there remains a gap in integrating Fresnel lens-based systems with the comprehensive thermal modeling of key components in improving system sustainability and performance. To bridge this gap and promote more energy-efficient designs, a detailed numerical model was established to evaluate both the thermal and optical performance of a UHCPV system. This model contributes to the sustainable design process by enabling informed decisions on system efficiency, thermal management, and material optimization before physical prototyping. Through COMSOL Multiphysics simulations, the system was assessed under direct normal irradiance (DNI) ranging from 400 to 1000 W/m2. Optical simulations indicated a high theoretical optical efficiency of ~93% and a concentration ratio of 1361 suns, underscoring the system’s potential to deliver high solar energy conversion with minimal land and material footprint. Moreover, the integration of thermal and optical modeling ensures a holistic understanding of system behavior under varying ambient temperatures (20–50 °C) and convective cooling conditions (heat transfer coefficients between 4 and 22 W/m2.K). The results showed that critical optical components remain within safe temperature thresholds (<54 °C), while the receiver stage operates between 78.5 °C and 157.4 °C. These findings highlight the necessity of an effective cooling mechanism—not only to preserve system longevity and safety but also to maintain high conversion efficiency, thereby supporting the broader goals of sustainable and reliable solar energy generation. Fiber–cement composites have been increasingly studied for sustainable construction applications, but durability issues—particularly fiber degradation in alkaline environments—remain a challenge. This study aimed to evaluate the individual and combined effects of furfurylated sisal fibers and nanoclay additions on the physical and mechanical performance of autoclaved fiber–cement composites, seeking to enhance fiber durability and matrix compatibility. All the composites were formulated with CPV-ARI cement and partially replaced with agricultural limestone to reduce the environmental impact and production costs. Sisal fibers (2 wt.%) were chemically modified using furfuryl alcohol, and nanoclays—both hydrophilic and surface-functionalized—were incorporated at 1% and 5% of cement weight. The composites were characterized for physical properties (density, water absorption, and apparent porosity) and mechanical performance (flexural and compressive strength, toughness, and modulus). Furfurylation significantly improved fiber–matrix interaction, leading to higher flexural strength and up to 100% gain in toughness. Nanoclay additions reduced porosity and increased stiffness, particularly at 5%, though excessive content showed diminishing returns. The combination of furfurylated fibers and functionalized nanoclay provided the best results in maintaining a compact microstructure, reducing water absorption, and improving mechanical resilience. Optical microscopy confirmed improved fiber dispersion and interfacial bonding in composites containing furfurylated fibers and functionalized nanoclay. These findings highlight the effectiveness of integrating surface-treated natural fibers with pozzolanic additives to enhance the performance and longevity of fiber–cement composites. Full article

Canine papillomavirus (CPV) infection leads to a range of clinical manifestations from benign warts to malignant tumors in dogs, posing significant challenges in veterinary medicine due to its diverse genotypic spectrum. This study introduced broad-range and robust polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays designed to enhance the detection, identification, and quantification of multiple CPV genotypes. By using both universal and genotype-specific primers, this protocol significantly improved diagnostic specificity and sensitivity across the 23 known CPV genotypes compared to previously described ones. The primers were designed to target conserved regions across all genotypes for general detection, as well as specific regions in the predominant genotypes CPV1 and CPV2 for detailed analysis. Validation of this protocol using synthetic plasmids and clinical samples confirmed its enhanced performance over traditional methods, as demonstrated by higher specificity and sensitivity. Additionally, the application of this PCR approach in a series of epidemiological studies provided novel insights into the distribution and prevalence of CPV genotypes, highlighting its potential utility in shaping targeted vaccination and clinical management strategies. Furthermore, the quantitative capability of this established protocol allowed for monitoring viral loads in clinical cases, offering a valuable tool for assessing treatment efficacy and disease progression. Further validation through larger-scale clinical studies will be crucial to substantiate the diagnostic accuracy and epidemiological value of the assays. Full article

Insects detect pathogens through their germ-line encoded pattern recognition receptors (PRRs). Among these, β-1,3-glucan recognition protein (βGRP) is a crucial PRR that specifically identifies pathogenic microorganisms and triggers innate immune signaling cascades. However, it remains unclear whether βGRP can detect viruses and protect the host from viral threats. In this study, using high-throughput sequencing technology, we observed a significant suppression of βGRP-3 in Bombyx mori during infection with the Bombyx mori cytoplasmic polyhedrosis virus (BmCPV). Moreover, overexpression of βGRP-3 in BmN cell lines resulted in a reduction of BmCPV proliferation, whereas knockdown of βGRP-3 in BmN cells promoted BmCPV proliferation. These findings suggest that the βGRP family functions not only as anti-bacterial, antifungal, and anti-yeast PRRs but also as protectors against various harmful viruses in insects. Full article

Background/Objectives: This qualitative study was conducted to understand the experiences of parents of adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) regarding experiences of child-to-parent violence (CPV), including the contexts of parent–child conflict in which CPV occurred, types of CPV, victimized parents’ feelings and responses to CPV, and parents’ strategies for better handling of CPV based on past experiences. Methods: Data from open and in-depth interviews with 18 parents who have experienced CPV perpetrated by their children with ADHD were subject to reflexive thematic analysis. Results: The results revealed various contexts in which parent–child conflicts (CPV) occurred. Parents reported the experiences of psychological aggression, physical aggression, and restrictions on movement. In addition to experiencing feelings of distress, fear, and frustration, parents adopted various strategies for coping with adolescents’ CPV, such as leaving the scene, pushing back, rational communication, controlling their own emotions, encouraging their children to express their feelings, and seeking help. Parents suggested that practicing communicating with their children using real-life examples and learning parenting skills is essential to the prevention of CPV and the mitigation of serious consequences. Conclusions: Our findings can provide healthcare professionals with key insights into the contexts of CPV and the management strategies used by parents of adolescents with ADHD. Full article

Background/Objectives: Peer victimization and aggression can be detrimental to the physical and mental health of adolescents. Adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are one of the risk groups involved in peer victimization and aggression. The association between multiple types of domestic violence and engagement in peer victimization and aggression warrants more examination in adolescents with ADHD. This study examined the associations of parent-to-child aggression (PCA), witness to domestic violence (WDV), and child-to-parent violence (CPV) with the experiences of peer victimization and aggression among adolescents with a clinical diagnosis of ADHD in Taiwan. Materials and Methods: In total, 247 adolescents with ADHD (206 boys and 41 girls, mean age [SD] = 13.2 [2.0] years) agreed to participate in this study. Adolescents’ peer victimization and aggression, PCA, WDV, and CPV in the previous year were collected. Results: This study found that 28.3% and 12.6% of adolescents with ADHD reported experiences of peer victimization and aggression, respectively. The rates of having PCA, WDV, and CPV ranged from 38.1% to 56.3%. The results of multivariable logistic regression analysis found that child-to-parent financial demand (p = 0.016) and child-to-parent control or domination (p = 0.018) significantly correlated with the experiences of peer victimization. PCA (p = 0.010) and child-to-parent control or domination (p = 0.042) significantly correlated with the experiences of peer aggression. Conclusions: The results of this study show that both CPV and PCA significantly correlate with the experiences of peer victimization and aggression in adolescents with ADHD. CPV and PCA should be included in adolescent prevention programs. Full article

Purpose: Child-to-parent violence (CPV) is a major concern for adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The Child-to-Parent Violence Questionnaire (CPV-Q) is a valid instrument for assessing a wide variety of CPV behaviors and the reasons; however, the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of CPV-Q (C-CPV-Q) in adolescents with ADHD have not been examined yet. This study examined the psychometric properties of both child and parent versions of C-CPV-Q in adolescents with ADHD. Participants and Methods: In total, 247 adolescents with ADHD and their parents participated in the study. Confirmatory factor analyses (CFAs) were conducted to examine the factor structure for CPV types and reasons. Internal consistency, cross-validation, and concurrent validity of the parent and child versions of C-CPV-Q were also evaluated. Results: The results of CFA found that both child and parent versions of the C-CPV-Q contained four domains of CPV types and two domains of CPV reasons in adolescents with ADHD. The correlations between parent and child reports of the C-CPV-Q assessing the same factors were stronger than those assessing different factors. Concurrent validity of the C-CPV-Q was supported by their positive correlations with internalizing, externalizing, attention deficit/hyperactivity, oppositional defiant, and conduct problems. Except for the financial aggression factor, the entire C-CPV-Q had acceptable internal consistency. Conclusions: The results indicate that the child and parent versions of the C-CPV-Q are valid instruments for assessing a wide variety of CPV behaviors and the reasons among adolescents with ADHD. Tracking the apparent movement of the sun with high precision is crucial in dual-axis tracking systems for solar concentration applications. It is important to develop control strategies to reduce losses by solar radiation displacement (drift) on the receiver and improve the solar concentration system. In concentrated photovoltaics, a high-precision tracking control is required to keep the concentration point. This paper compares open-loop and closed-loop solar tracking control strategies to solve drift problems and correct azimuth and elevation angles in a non-image reflective FRESNEL solar concentrator. The open-loop strategy consists of a programming code to calculate the apparent sun position, sending command signals to the actuator systems in azimuth and elevation tracker axes. In the open-loop strategy, the actual position of the sun is not verified. A closed-loop strategy with a visual monitoring device is proposed here to detect the sun’s position in real time. This can be simultaneously compared with a fixed reference to evaluate drift through time, calculate the generated error, and send feedback signals to correct azimuth and elevation angles. With this configuration, displacement containment of the solar point concentration projection was ±0.00215 m in the azimuth direction and ±0.0027 m in the elevation direction on the receiver. Background/Objectives: Although child-to-parent violence (CPV), peer violence (PV), and dating violence (DV) share risk factors and tend to co-occur, little is known about the common and differential mechanisms involved in the development of these types of youth violence. This study aims to (1) analyze the relationship between youth violence (CPV, PV, and DV) and perceived parental warmth and moral disengagement mechanisms and (2) explore the mediating role of moral disengagement mechanisms in the relationship between the lack of perceived parental warmth and youth violence. Methods: A cross-sectional population-based survey study was conducted. The sample consisted of 2124 Spanish adolescents (57.9% girls) aged between 13 and 17 years from educational centers. Results: The lack of perceived parental warmth (parental criticism-rejection in particular) is a common risk factor for all three types of violence and, more relevantly, is related to youth violence through moral disengagement mechanisms, highlighting a differential contribution of these mechanisms according to the type of violence. In particular, advantageous comparison and attribution of blame are specific mediators of CPV, and moral justification and distortion of consequences are specific to PV, whereas euphemistic language seems to be a common mediator of PV and DV. Conclusions: This study suggests that adolescents who perceive a lack of parental warmth are more likely to develop different dysfunctional cognitive mechanisms, which in turn are related to different types of youth violence. It would be important to promote warm parenting practices and address the cognitive mechanisms underlying youth violence. Full article

Assessments included the Conflict in Adolescent Dating Relationships Inventory (CADRI) for dating violence, the Psychopathy Content Scale (P-16) for psychopathy, the Antisocial and Criminal Behavior Scale in Adolescents (ECADA) for antisocial and law-violating behaviors, and the Conflict Tactics Scales (CTS2) for CPV. Analyses of associations included linear regression and qualitative comparative analysis (QCA). Results: Females exhibited higher levels of verbal violence, less delinquency, and more frequent CPV towards mothers. Psychopathy, antisocial and law-violating behaviors, and exposure to verbal violence were correlated with filial aggression. Violence towards mothers was associated with older age, female sex, verbal violence exposure, and psychopathy (47% variance explained), while violence towards fathers was linked to younger age and psychopathy (28% variance explained). QCA results indicated that specific combinations of having experienced violence and psychopathic traits contribute to CPV towards both parents. Conclusions: These findings highlight the importance of addressing psychological and sociodemographic risk factors for CPV. Prevention efforts should focus on reducing exposure to violence, identifying at-risk adolescents, and implementing targeted interventions to promote family well-being. Full article

Background: School nurses play a crucial role in promoting student health, addressing issues such as substance use, mental health, physical health, violence, and sexual health. However, their job satisfaction has been understudied, particularly in relation to the challenges they face. Objective: This study evaluates the job satisfaction and professional quality of life among school nurses and nurses working in educational settings in Spain. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted (November 2023–February 2024) with 553 nurses from various regions of Spain, using the Font-Roja job satisfaction and CPV-35 professional quality of life questionnaires. Results: Our results showed significant differences in job satisfaction between nurses in healthcare and educational settings, influenced by factors such as workload and institutional support. Most participants (97.5% women, median age ~40 years) had less than 5 years of experience. The lack of a dedicated nurse in half of the schools highlights disparities in service provision. Discussion: This study emphasizes the need for supportive policies and work environments to improve the well-being and job satisfaction of nurses in school settings. Full article

The well-being and subsistence of giant pandas, an endangered species with a limited distribution, are currently threatened by a number of viruses, including canine parvovirus (CPV-2), canine distemper virus (CDV), and giant panda rotavirus (GPRV). To allow for timely intervention upon viral infection, it is necessary to execute rapid and accurate diagnosis of potential mixed viral infections. In the present study, we developed and validated a multiplex PCR (mPCR) approach for the detection of CPV-2, CDV, and GPRV infections. The results indicate that the method could selectively amplify the three viruses with high sensitivity and specificity, which are necessary attributes in clinical settings. Utilizing the established method, (sub)clinical giant panda samples were examined, and CPV-2, CDV, and GPRV were found in 19.72% (43 out of 218), 7.34% (16 out of 218), and 6.42% (14 out of 218) of the samples, respectively. Noticeably, mixed infections of two or three viruses were common, and this was generally observed in CDV- or GPRV-positive samples. Meanwhile, mPCR results were further validated with sequencing and the phylogenetic analysis of full-length sequences of viral genes. Taken together, our study provides an approachable assay which enables the quick detection of the three viruses mentioned above, which will benefit clinical diagnosis and laboratory epidemiological-based investigations of the giant panda population. Despite over four decades since its emergence, canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2) remains a relevant disease for dogs. Few studies, primarily only recent ones based on phylodynamic and phylogeography approaches, have highlighted the impact of rapid and long-distance transport of dogs on the CPV-2 spreading dynamics. The present study reports the genomic characterization of a CPV-2 strain detected in a dog introduced into Italy from the coasts of North Africa through the Mediterranean Sea route to Europe. The nearly complete CPV-2 sequence was obtained and analyzed. The viral isolate was characterized as a CPV-2b variant, showing genetic signatures distinct from those of CPV-2 strains detected to date in Europe. Phylodynamic and phylogeographic approaches revealed a close correlation with CPV-2 strains recently reported in the Middle East (Turkey and Egypt), which likely originated or co-evolved from Asian ones. It is at least suggestive that the inferred spreading pattern overlaps with the routes often followed by migrants travelling from Asia and Middle East to Europe, passing through Africa. This evidence for the introduction of CPV-2 via the Mediterranean Sea route to Europe highlights the relevant role of the dog movements in the global spread of emerging or re-emerging viral pathogens.
