HIV Dynamics and Replication Program Conference on “Emerging Viruses: Origins, Biology, and Control of Transmission”

Dear Colleagues:

We are pleased to announce that the HIV Dynamics and Replication Program Conference on “Emerging Viruses: Origins, Biology, and Control of Transmission” will be held on October 19, 2016, from 1:00 to 5:45 pm at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) campus in Frederick, Maryland.

The HIV Dynamics and Replication Program is organizing this half-day conference to showcase the latest findings on emerging viral pathogens.  The presentations will focus on recent advances in: identifying the origins of virus emergence; understanding the molecular and immunological mechanisms by which viruses cross between species and establish new host ranges; developing vaccines and antiviral therapies against emerging viruses; and attenuating the geographic and ecological sources of vulnerability to disease transmission by emerging viruses.  An in-depth discussion of this recent progress will lead to new insights into the mechanisms involved in viral evolution and pathogenesis, which will aid in the international effort to control emerging viruses and mitigate their effects on public health.

Invited speakers in the outstanding program include: Sina Bavari, U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases; Christopher Buck, Laboratory of Cellular Oncology, National Cancer Institute; Adolfo Garcia-Sastre, Global Health and Emerging Pathogens Institute, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai; Andrew Haddow, U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases; W. Ian Lipkin, Center for Infection and Immunity, Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University; and Michael Worobey, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Arizona.

The agenda is available on the conference website at:
