Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In an increasingly interconnected economy, entrepreneurial firms are required to develop innovative strategies for value creation, adopt digital and sustainability-oriented business models, and navigate complex transnational networks of actors, resources, and opportunities. In this context, emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) increasingly influence how firms identify opportunities, optimize decision-making processes, and enhance strategic agility.
This Special Issue aims to contribute to contemporary research on sustainable entrepreneurship, strategic innovation, and business model transformation by examining how firms develop and reconfigure business models within a global ecosystem characterized by increasing uncertainty, accelerated technological transformation, and continuous institutional change. Against the backdrop of rapid digitalization, climate and sustainability challenges, and heightened volatility in international markets, entrepreneurs are increasingly challenged to identify new growth opportunities and implement innovative mechanisms for value creation that integrate economic, social, and environmental objectives across diverse and interdependent environments. While AI-driven solutions are progressively embedded in entrepreneurial ecosystems—supporting data-driven innovation, predictive analytics, and operational efficiency—this Special Issue conceptualizes such technological advancements as part of a broader socio-technical and institutional transformation. This integrative perspective acknowledges the relevance of emerging digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, while situating them within a wider framework of strategic renewal, organizational adaptation, and systemic value creation across multi-level and transnational contexts.
This Special Issue brings together multidisciplinary perspectives and empirically grounded contributions that investigate the role of dynamic capabilities, cross-border networks, digital integration, including AI-enabled systems, innovative business models, and institutional contexts in shaping entrepreneurial internationalization processes and sustainability-driven strategic renewal. In this evolving landscape, increasing attention is also devoted to the influence of public governance and corporate governance mechanisms, such as regulatory quality, policy support, institutional transparency, AI governance frameworks, and firm-level governance structures, which play a critical role in enabling responsible international expansion, fostering innovation, and cultivating long-term sustainable value creation across borders.
