Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue of Systems invites science and engineering researchers along with practitioners of system of systems (SoS) to contribute to the advancement of the body of knowledge for SoS modelling and simulation (M&S).
The impact of SoS in our complex economic-socio-political world and its environment has become pervasive. The early concepts of SoS in the late twentieth century to deliver mission capabilities from a geographically distributed assembly of independent constituent systems have evolved into the integration of capabilities, services, and complex systems in domains of engineering such as aerospace, transportation, manufacturing, finance, and in natural domains such as the environment.
The current generation of modelling languages, methods, and tools for model-based systems engineering can be leveraged to support the analysis and management of the properties and behavior of an SoS of interest. However, SoS M&S must also account for interoperability of and secure communications between the constituent systems.
This Special Issue will inform the community about the state of the art of SoS M&S and pathways to the next generation, including domain case studies. Articles on the next generation should include, but are not limited to, specialized topics for the application of artificial intelligence to SoS M&S, quantum computing for communications, security and simulation, and mathematical languages for SoS M&S architecture and modelling.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Systems is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
