Dear Colleagues,
The digital transformation of industries is accelerating, driven by the rapid evolution of autonomous systems ranging from self-driving vehicles and drones to smart factory robots. However, the realization of fully autonomous and sustainable operations is not the result of a single technology, but the convergence of multiple enabling factors.
This Special Issue, "Enabling Technologies for Digital Transformation in Autonomous Systems: Connectivity, AI, Energy Management, and Simulation", seeks to provide a comprehensive platform for researchers to discuss how these critical pillars interact to create intelligent and resilient systems.
We invite original research articles and review papers that address the technical challenges and synergistic solutions in the design, implementation, and management of autonomous systems. We are particularly interested in studies that demonstrate a systems engineering approach to integrating these technologies.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- System integration and modular architectures for autonomous platforms;
- Systems engineering for DX;
- Digital twin and simulation;
- AI/LM for perception, decision-making and control;
- Connectivity in autonomy (5G/6G/V2X);
- Intelligent energy management systems and power optimization strategies;
- Cyber-physical systems in autonomy;
- Case studies in smart manufacturing, autonomous logistics, and smart cities;
- Safety, reliability, and cybersecurity of autonomous systems;
- Human–machine interaction (HMI) and collaboration in autonomous environments.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Systems is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
