Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue on "Queer Care: Addressing LGBTQ+ Needs in Healthcare and Social Services" explores the unique challenges and opportunities in providing care to LGBTQ+ individuals within healthcare and social service systems. LGBTQ+ communities face distinct barriers to accessing equitable care, often stemming from systemic discrimination, social stigma, and a lack of cultural responsiveness among healthcare and service providers. These issues are further compounded by intersections with race, class, disability, and other marginalized identities. This Special Issue will examine critical approaches to creating inclusive, affirming, and responsive care environments that meet the diverse needs of LGBTQ+ people. Contributions will highlight best practices, healthcare and service provider initiatives, community-based research on LGBTQ+ healthcare and services, and policy interventions that center on the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals. By drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives, including social work, public health, counseling, and critical queer theory, this collection seeks to advance a more equitable and just framework for healthcare and social services. Ultimately, this Special Issue aims to foster a deeper understanding of how care systems can be transformed to support LGBTQ+ well-being, resilience, and dignity. Submissions can include article manuscripts, conceptual papers, and review pieces that address the scope of "Queer Care: Addressing LGBTQ+ Needs in Healthcare and Social Services".

Contributions have to follow one of the three categories of papers (article, conceptual paper or review) of the journal and address the topic of the Special Issue.
