Safety 2022 Best Paper Award
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the “Safety 2022 Best Paper Award” for research and review articles published in Safety in 2022. Three articles will receive the awards. The papers will be selected after a thorough evaluation by the journal Award Committee led by the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Raphael Grzebieta.
Eligibility for the Award:
– Papers published in Safety in 2022;
– Open to all career levels;
– Both regular and Special Issue submissions will be considered.
Selection Criteria:
The papers will be selected by the Safety Award Committee according to the following criteria:
– Scientific merit and broad impact;
– Originality of the research objectives and/or the ideas presented;
– Creativity of the study design or uniqueness of the approaches and concepts;
– Clarity of presentation;
– Citations and downloads.
The Prize:
– The first prize (one paper): 300 CHF;
– The second prize (one paper): 200 CHF;
– The third prize (one paper): 100 CHF;
– Each winner will also receive an electronic certificate.
The winners will be announced on the journal website in July 2024.

Safety 2020 Young Investigator Award
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the winner of the Safety 2020 Young Investigator Award is Dr. Amy Peden.
Dr. Amy Peden is a lecturer and researcher with the School of Population Health at UNSW Sydney. She lectures in injury prevention and conducts research in injury epidemiology and prevention with a focus on drowning prevention. Dr. Peden’s specific areas of interest include issues facing regional communities, the impact of alcohol on injury risk and drowning data collection and communication methods. She has authored 73 peer-reviewed articles to date as well as over 60 professional reports. Dr. Peden holds honorary positions with the George Institute for Global Health, James Cook University and is also a senior research fellow with Royal Life Saving Society – Australia. She is a member of the executive committee of the Australasian Injury Prevention Network (AIPN) and regularly appears in the media discussing drowning prevention issues.
As the awardee, Dr. Amy Peden will receive an honorarium of 1000 CHF, an offer to publish a paper free of charge before the end of June 2021 in Safety after peer-review, and an engraved plaque.

Safety 2019 Travel Award
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the Safety 2019 Travel Awards for postdoctoral fellows and PhD students. These awards will support travel costs for one postdoctoral fellow and one PhD student to present their data, in poster or oral presentation formats, at a scientific conference in 2019. The nominations and applications will be assessed by an Evaluation Committee presided by the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Raphael Grzebieta.
Candidates’ Requirements:
- Postdoctoral Fellows (within three years of receiving their PhD) or PhD students undertaking industrial and human health safety.
- Will present their own, original work as a poster or an oral presentation at the conference in 2019 for which the travel award application is being submitted.
Required Application Documents:
- Outline of current and future work (500 words).
- Curriculum vitae, including a complete list of publications.
- The conference to be attended, and a copy of the abstract and acceptance letter or anticipated date of decision.
- Current grant funding and travel budget, if any, and why the applicant wishes to receive support from Safety.
- A letter of recommendation from the supervisor, research director, or department head.
The awards will consist of 800 CHF each and a certificate.

Safety 2018 Best Paper Award
Dear Authors
We are very pleased to announce the winners of the 2018 Safety Best Paper Award. Three reviews and three research articles were selected by the journal award committee according to their originality; significance; as well as citation, download, and view rates in 2019 (Web of Science and Database of MDPI). The award recipients will each receive a certificate and an invitation to publish a paper free of charge in Safety, after the normal peer-review procedure.
