Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The rapid development of artificial intelligence has opened new horizons for human creativity, communication and knowledge while at the same time posing a profound challenge to theology and ethics. We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue of Religions entitled “Theological and Ethical Reflections on Artificial Intelligence.”

This Special Issue aims to examine how religions interpret and respond to the theological and ethical challenges posed by artificial intelligence. We invite contributions that address:

  • Reflections on the concept of God in light of artificial intelligence.
  • Perspectives on the notion of the human being and human singularity in the context of AI.
  • Critical re-readings of how different religions interpret this phenomenon in light of their own traditions and experiences.
  • Studies on how these technologies are used or rejected in religious practices.
  • Analyses of the potential contribution of AI to redefining the bonds among members of different communities.

In addition, we welcome scholarly contributions that explore the application of the fundamental ethical principles of each religion to the moral evaluation of AI, as well as studies on the possibility of a shared stance regarding the common values of religions in relation to artificial intelligence.

Expected Impact
We hope that this Special Issue will stimulate new interdisciplinary research that fosters dialogue among theology, philosophy, ethics and computer science. Its purpose is to open a space for academic reflection that sheds light on the role of religions in shaping a more humane technological culture and to inspire ethical and theological proposals capable of guiding the responsible development of artificial intelligence.

Submission Guidelines
Prior to submitting a full manuscript, interested authors are requested to submit a proposed title and an abstract of 200–300 words summarizing their intended contribution. Please send these to the Guest Editors or to the Assistant Editor of Religions, Dr. Ana Vujkovic Sakanovic at vujkovic.sakanovic@mdpi.com.
Abstracts will be reviewed by the Guest Editors to ensure proper alignment with the scope of the Special Issue.
Full manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer review.

We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions.
