Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Cirrhosis is a late stage of scarring (fibrosis) caused by many forms of liver diseases and conditions, such as hepatitis and chronic alcoholism. Patients with cirrhosis are at increased risk of numerous complications, such as varices, ascites, hepatic encephalopathy (HE), hepatopulmonary hypertension, hepatocellular carcinoma, hepatorenal syndrome, spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, and coagulation disorders. Generally, liver damage from cirrhosis cannot be reversed, but treatment can stop or delay further progression and reduce complications. The prevention measures or practical treatment of cirrhosis in recent years can be summarized including vaccination, a good lifestyle, liver transplantation, adequate nutrition and medical treatment, and palliative care. This Special Issue entitled "Treatment of Patients with Liver Cirrhosis: Challenges and Future Trends" aims to collect research articles as well as critical reviews that bring new insights into the treatment of patients with liver cirrhosis.
