Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue will explore the development of artificial intelligence and mathematical models for controlling advanced robotics systems. As robots become more autonomous, collaborative, and capable of operating in dynamic environments, complex AI algorithms and mathematical frameworks enable their functionality. This synergy is essential for advancing robotic systems that can learn, adapt, and interact with the world in a meaningful way.
We invite researchers to submit original contributions that push the boundaries of this exciting field. The Special Issue seeks to highlight both theoretical advancements and practical applications in areas such as the following:
- Model-Based Reinforcement Learning: Applying RL algorithms that leverage predictive mathematical models to enhance robotic learning efficiency and safety.
- Human–Robot Interaction: Research on action anticipation modelling and predictive AI to facilitate natural and safe interaction between humans and robots in shared workspaces.
- AI for Advanced Robotic Sensing: Developing intelligent perception systems that use AI to process and interpret complex sensor data, enabling more accurate state estimation and environmental awareness.
- Learning from Demonstration: Utilising AI to enable robots to learn new skills from human examples, with a focus on incorporating mathematical and physical constraints for safe and reliable execution.
- Advanced Mathematical Modelling: Exploring novel mathematical models for robotic dynamics, control, and system design, including both rigid-body and soft robotics.
- Physical AI: Development of neural networks trained for the real-world environment with physical constraints to solve complex robotic problems.
This Special Issue will be a valuable platform for researchers to share cutting-edge research and innovative ideas at the nexus of AI, mathematics, and robotics, fostering further development in this rapidly evolving domain. We welcome both original research and review articles that provide a comprehensive overview of the state of the art.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Mathematics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
