This section is devoted to the science and technology of measurement, focusing both on sensors and transducers for physical, chemical, or biological quantities, and on the methodologies for achieving high precision. It covers a broad array of sensors—including mechanical, thermal, optical, magnetic, and chemical sensors on chip—with an emphasis on selectivity, sensitivity, and other metrological characteristics. The section also welcomes research on the fundamental principles of metrology, precision electronic and mechanical measurement (CMM, interferometry), calibration techniques, uncertainty analysis, and the development of instruments and standards.
