Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

As Industry 4.0 progresses, a significant transition is emerging toward Industry 5.0, a new paradigm that places human-centric, sustainability, and resilience at the core of industrial systems. During the era of Industry 4.0, the technologies such as Internet of Things, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning have significantly enhanced the automation and connectivity. However, the transition to Industry 5.0 demands that AI systems not only optimize processes but also collaborate effectively with humans, improve workforce capabilities, and maintain ecological and operational balance. Therefore, exploring new-generation AI technologies tailored towards Industry 5.0 has become an urgent research focus.

This Special Issue invites original research and reviews exploring how next-generation AI can drive the transformation toward Industry 5.0, fostering environments where technology serves people, systems withstand disruptions, and production aligns with planetary boundaries. This Special Issue aims to provide a platform to exchange and share ideas in the latest research findings on these cutting-edge developments. The topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Explainable AI for trustworthy monitoring and control in manufacturing;
  • Human-robot collaboration and interactive production systems;
  • AI for predictive maintenance and fault-tolerant systems;
  • Supply chain resilience and disruption management using AI;
  • Digital twin-enabled adaptive process planning and dynamic scheduling;
  • AI-driven green and low-carbon product design and manufacturing;
  • Optimization of sustainable resource management and circular production;
  • AI-based energy consumption prediction and optimization;
  • Deep learning for green logistics and low-carbon production scheduling;
  • Large language models for sustainable manufacturing decision support;
  • Knowledge graphs for manufacturing and remanufacturing process planning;
  • Robotics and autonomous systems in sustainable smart manufacturing;
  • AI applications in additive manufacturing, remanufacturing, and hybrid production.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Industries is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
