Health Literacy: Evidence and Approaches
This special issue belongs to the section “Public Health and Preventive Medicine“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Health literacy is increasingly recognized as a cornerstone of effective health promotion and equitable healthcare. When people can find, understand, and use health information, they are better able to make informed decisions, manage their health, and engage with the healthcare system. Improving health literacy not only benefits individuals but also supports healthcare systems that are responsive, clear, and inclusive.
Despite growing research on health literacy, however, important knowledge gaps remain. We need to deepen our understanding of the factors that influence health literacy, discover how different populations experience these factors, and investigate how targeted health promotion strategies can close communication and access gaps.
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, titled, “Health Literacy: Evidence and Approaches” The aim of this Issue is to highlight current scientific work on health literacy as a driver of better health outcomes, examine the effectiveness of health promotion activities, and explore how healthcare organizations, professionals, and communities can work together to improve health literacy across populations.
We welcome original research articles and reviews in areas including (but not limited to) the following:
- Determinants and levels of health literacy.
- Implementation of health literacy strategies that build health outcomes.
- Health literacy and promotion in vulnerable population groups.
- Links between health literacy and outcomes for non-communicable diseases and mental health.
- The role of health systems, policies, and professionals in advancing organizational health literacy.
- Cultural and linguistic challenges providing health-literate care.
- The impact of AI on health literacy.
We look forward to your contributions to this important field.
