Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to contribute your conceptual, methodological, and practical insights relevant to the evaluation of health interventions.

The disciplinary area of health evaluation is not unified, either from a conceptual or methodological point of view. Additionally, it covers a wide range of topics including impact assessment of the efficacy and effectiveness of an intervention regarding intended and unintended health, social, and economic outcomes; program evaluation assessing processes and outcomes of a program with the intent of furthering its improvement, and considered of particular use for informing decisions and identifying options for program improvement; implementation science, which assesses the extent to which efficacious health interventions can be effectively integrated within real-world public health and clinical service systems; and comparative effectiveness research that assesses which treatment works best for whom, and under what circumstances, and considers health as well as economic outcomes. A lack of evaluative studies is recognized, as is the absolute need for their results to inform decision-making.

This Special Issue aims to publish original research articles and reviews that present and discuss methodological innovative approaches and advances on the evaluation of health interventions. Regarding reviews, we will consider narrative, systematic, umbrella reviews, and meta-analysis that examine specific review questions, namely exploring aspects related to the evaluation process, including meta-evaluation. Studies including examples of utilization of health evaluation studies to design interventions and inform health policies, evaluability studies, and the interactions with monitoring systems are encouraged and welcome. With regard to the health interventions covered, we have adopted a broad concept that includes different types of approaches/strategies that contribute to resolving a problematic situation in specific contexts, from prevention/promotion initiatives to the implementation of a new therapy.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
