Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Alcohol abuse is common among people living with HIV. In general, alcoholics are more susceptible to HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) than the general population. Likewise, people living with HIV are more likely to abuse alcohol at some point in their lives, and they often turn to alcohol, drugs, etc. during diagnosis or when they feel sad, depressed, stressed, etc. In addition, alcohol consumption is highly associated with high-risk sexual behavior and injecting drug use, two major modes of HIV transmission. In people already living with HIV, the combination of heavy alcohol consumption and HIV increases the spread of psychiatric complications and related diseases (e.g., mental illness, tuberculosis; pneumonia caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae; and viral diseases, such as hepatitis C , adverse drug reactions, etc. It is the leading cause of death among people living with HIV. In addition, alcohol may increase the severity of AIDS-related brain injuries, the most severe of which are characterized by profound dementia and high mortality. The impact of alcohol abuse on HIV disease progression is still under investigation, the objective of this Special Issue of Healthcare is to present the latest research regarding various Alcohol-HIV/AIDS. This includes research regarding pathogenesis, technical procedures for establishing diagnosis, and therapeutic advances. Epidemiological and clinical studies are also welcomed. Original research articles and review articles are invited.

I look forward to receiving your contributions.
