Travel Award
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Evaluation Committee, we are pleased to announce the winners of the Geosciences 2019 Travel Award: Mr. Mussa Raja and Dr. Patricio Becerra, who will receive 600 Swiss Francs each towards the cost of participation at their chosen conferences.
Mr. Mussa Raja is a PhD student at the Interdisciplinary Center for Archaeology and Evolution of Human Behaviour (ICArEHB), Universidade do Algarve, Portugal. His research focus is Archaeology, specifically Geoarchaeology. He has demonstrated interest in presenting the latest results of his research to the Society for American Archaeology (SAA) at their 84th annual meeting, from 10 to 14 April 2019 in Albuquerque, NM, USA. He will make an oral presentation related to his PhD work under the title “Geochemical and Sedimentary Based Reconstruction of the Palaeoenvironment and Formation of the Late Stone Age Site of Txina-Txina (Massingir, Mozambique)”.
Dr. Patricio Becerra is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Physics Institute, University of Bern, Switzerland. His research centers on understanding the relationship between planetary ice and the climate on terrestrial planets. He will attend the Ninth International Conference on Mars (Mars 9) (Pasadena, CA, USA, 22–26 July 2019). He plans to present his research of the climate record of the south polar layered deposits (SPLD) of Mars. These stratified deposits represent the largest reservoir of water on Mars and are believed to have been forced by periodic changes to its orbital parameters.
We wish to congratulate Mr. Mussa Raja and Dr. Patricio Becerra on their accomplishments.
