Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We have entered an era of gravitational wave astronomy marked with a series of discoveries of gravitational wave signals from coalescence of binary black holes and compact binaries. These discoveries, enabled by laser interferometer detectors, Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo and the rich science behind, have sparked broad interest in improving detector sensitivity and exploring techniques aiming at all different frequency bands.
The gravitational wave detection projects cover signals from nano-Hertz to kilo-Hertz with different methods. The pulsar timing method is for exceptionally low frequencies. The atom interferometer is another proposed method for gravitational wave detection. This Special Issue entitled “Laser Interferometric Gravitational Wave Detector”s focuses on a more specific topic, the laser interferometer targeting for signals from tenth of milli-Hertz to kilo-Hertz. There are both ground-based and space-based detectors. This Special Issue is to provide a platform to share the remarkable studies of instrumental science and recording recent developments. We aim to collect both review and research articles on fundamental theories, technological developments, and prospective ideas for the future. Connections to the astrophysical targets and even possibly different subdisciplines of physics are encouraged. While we intend to build more interactions with research on gravitational wave sources and astrophysics, we also bring more attention to the development of the instrumental part in the field of gravitational waves.

Galaxies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
