Aims:
The Molecular, Cellular and Biochemical Pharmacology Section aims to publish high-quality research that advances the understanding of drug action at molecular, cellular, and biochemical levels. The section focuses on the mechanistic dissection of how drugs interact with biological systems, ranging from isolated molecular targets to complex cellular networks.
Scope:
- Molecular pharmacology: drug–receptor/ion channel/enzyme/transporter interactions; structure–activity relationships (SAR); and molecular modeling and ligand–target binding kinetics.
- Cellular pharmacology: drug transport, uptake, and subcellular distribution; signal transduction pathways; and cell-based phenotypic responses to pharmacological agents.
- Biochemical mechanisms of drug action: Enzymatic and non-enzymatic modes of drug action; effects on metabolic pathways; post-translational modifications; and protein–drug adducts.
- Drug–drug interactions (DDIs): mechanistic studies on pharmacokinetic (e.g., metabolic enzyme or transporter-mediated) and pharmacodynamic DDIs; prediction and validation of combination effects.
- Resistance mechanisms: molecular and cellular bases of acquired or intrinsic resistance to drugs (e.g., efflux pumps, target mutations, bypass signaling, and metabolic adaptation); strategies to overcome resistance.
