9th International Conference on Forest Fire Research & 17th International Wildland Fire Safety Summit

Since 1990, the International Conference on Forest Fire Research (ICFFR) has gathered in Central Portugal, every 4 years, the majority of the World Fire Research Community. From USA to Australia, Canada to China, all across Europe, Africa, Asia and Middle East, the participants of the Conference aim to provide an up to date on the developments in wildfire science and technology. This 9th edition will, once again, take place in Coimbra, Portugal, from 11th to 18th of November, 2022, and will jointly host the 17th International Wildland Fire Safety Summit, promoted by the International Association of Wildland Fire (IWAF).

As usual, it will be preceded by 2 short courses. The first day of the venue will be dedicated to the 6th Short Course on Fire Safety, coordinated by Dr Jason Sharples, from the School of Science at the University of New South Wales, Canberra, Australia, succeeding Dr Bret Butler, from the USDA, who has organized the last three editions. The second and third days will see the 9th Short Course on Fire Behaviour, once again coordinated by Dr Albert Simeoni, from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, USA.

The Conference aims to be of a broad spectre, and tries to cover all aspects of wildfire management. It is organized in 6 Topics, with different indicative themes:

  • Fire at the Wildland Urban Interface
  • Risk Adaptation
  • Risk Assessment
  • Risk Reduction
  • Wildfire Management and Safety
