Feature papers represent the most advanced research with significant potential for high impact in the field. A Feature Paper should be a substantial original Article that involves several techniques or approaches, provides an outlook for future research directions and describes possible research applications.
Feature papers are submitted upon individual invitation or recommendation by the scientific editors and must receive positive feedback from the reviewers.
Editor’s Choice articles are based on recommendations by the scientific editors of MDPI journals from around the world. Editors select a small number of articles recently published in the journal that they believe will be particularly interesting to readers, or important in the respective research area. The aim is to provide a snapshot of some of the most exciting work published in the various research areas of the journal.

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new Section titled “Membrane Technology” (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/cleantechnol/sections/membrane_technology) in the journal Clean Technologies (ISSN 2571-8797).
The development of processes using membrane technology is currently one of the most attractive strategies to increase the sustainability of the industry and to decrease the environmental impact of human activities. Membrane technology is used in a wide range of applications: production of potable water (e.g., sea water desalinization), wastewater treatment (e.g., textile industry effluents), gas treatment (e.g., CO2 capture), purification of high-value products (e.g., production of pharma compounds), separation of solvents (e.g., separation of azeotropic mixtures), and much more. The modular characteristics of membrane devices bring additional advantages related to the ease of scaling up and the application in decentralized zones in which energy supply is not evident and solar energy could satisfy the needs. In addition, research focused on developing membranes with better performance for the target application brings fundamental knowledge in the understanding of how membranes work and how the molecular performance affects the final process design.
This Section will offer the latest findings and advances on membrane technology that aim at a more sustainable world. Manuscripts that include the application of membrane technology are all welcome, from the molecular level (membrane synthesis, evaluation of membrane performance, lab-scale studies) to the process level (pilot plant studies, simulation, environmental and economic analyses). We will be delighted to receive your manuscripts on the fascinating field of membrane technology.
