Section Information
The Chemistry of Natural Products and Biomolecules Section of Chemistry publishes high-quality research focused on the chemical synthesis, structural elucidation, and molecular-level analysis of discrete biologically relevant molecules, with emphasis on natural products, biomolecules, and natural product-inspired systems.
Topics within the scope of this Section include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Chemical synthesis and structural modification of natural products, biomolecules, and related molecular systems, including partial, total, semi-synthetic, and biomimetic approaches;
- Development of new reactions, reagents, and reaction conditions enabling the synthesis of natural products and biomolecules;
- Isolation, purification, and structure elucidation of natural products, biomolecules, and related compounds;
- Molecular and structural characterization of natural products and biomolecules using spectroscopic, spectrometric, and crystallographic techniques;
- Biosynthetic pathway investigations and mechanistic studies that inform or inspire synthetic strategy;
- Structure–activity relationship (SAR) analysis and chemical interpretation of biological function, provided the emphasis remains on molecular chemistry rather than drug discovery or development;
- Application and development of advanced analytical methodologies for the identification, quantification, and molecular profiling of natural products, biomolecules, and related systems.
The Section welcomes original research articles, communications, and critical reviews that present innovative chemical methodologies, mechanistic insight, or conceptual advances in the chemistry of natural products and biomolecules.
