Biodiversity, Ecosystems, and Microbiomes
A section of Challenges (ISSN 2078-1547).
Section Information
Biodiversity loss is a critical threat to planetary health. With a solutions-driven approach, this section of Challenges investigates the profound impacts of human activity on both local and global ecosystems, including the biosphere as a whole. We cover a wide range of topics, from efforts to address the visible decline in species to the often-overlooked but vital disruptions in microbial communities, which are the foundation of all ecosystems. By emphasizing ecological interdependence and the need to protect natural environments, we also explore how human behavior and socio-political and economic systems either support or undermine environmental health. We publish regular research papers, viewpoints and reviews, and invite all authors to explain the relevance of their work to advancing environmental sustainability and planetary health.
