MDPI Open Science Insights: Scientific Publishing Exchange with Nanyang Technological University, School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, 30 September 2025

We are pleased to announce an upcoming Author Training Workshop organized in collaboration with the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University. This workshop aims to support postgraduate students, early-career researchers, and faculty members in enhancing their understanding of the scholarly publishing process.
The workshop will provide an introduction to open access publishing and MDPI’s mission to promote open access publishing. Participants will also gain practical guidance on how to write and structure a manuscript effectively, alongside an overview of key aspects of publication ethics, including integrity, transparency, and best practices for authors.
Through this workshop, participants will be equipped with valuable knowledge and skills to navigate academic publishing with confidence and success.
We look forward to a meaningful exchange of ideas and supporting students in their publishing journey!

How to Write and Structure an Academic Paper This session, developed by MDPI’s Author Services team, equips participants with practical strategies for crafting clear and coherent manuscripts. The focus will be on enhancing logical flow, readability, and impactful communication, ensuring authors can effectively convey their research to reviewers and readers alike. |

Publication Ethics for Authors This session addresses common ethical issues in publishing—plagiarism, duplicate submissions, data fabrication, and authorship disputes. Using case studies, it highlights how Editors handle misconduct and offers best practices for maintaining integrity through proper citation, accurate reporting, and transparent collaboration. |

Dr. Amy Cham earned her PhD in neuroscience from Monash University Malaysia, where she researched the role of a novel neuronal protein in the context of social stress—a critical link to depression. After completing her PhD, she spent three years in product management at a nutraceutical company. Dr. Cham joined MDPI in October 2022 as an Assistant Editor for IJMS, leveraging her academic expertise and industry experience to contribute to high-quality academic publishing. She was promoted to Group Leader in November 2023 and was subsequently appointed as Regional Journal Relations Specialist in August 2024, during which she conducted numerous scholar visits across the APAC region, including in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and Taiwan. |

Ms. Marijana Maric holds a bachelor’s degree in ecology and a master’s degree in ecological risk assessment from the University of Novi Sad, Serbia. She joined MDPI in 2020 and has since gained extensive experience in academic publishing through various roles, including Assistant Editor, Section Managing Editor, Social Media Editor, and Training Assistant. She currently serves as both a Journal Relations Specialist and a Team Lead within MDPI’s Serbian office. In her role as Journal Relations Specialist for multiple journals, she focuses on building strong relationships with scholars and readers, promoting journals at academic conferences, supporting the resolution of ethical and editorial matters and enhancing author engagement. As a Team Lead, she is responsible for overseeing team performance, providing guidance and support to group members and ensuring high editorial quality and workflow efficiency. |
