Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This is a very interesting survey of the animal and vegetal sources used to dye fish leather in the northern countries. The authors show their incredible knowledge of the methods and the materials used by Arctic people, demonstrating practical abilities.

I have no relevant issues to note, apart from the fact that most of the species are cited in Normal style along the text, while they should be in Italic: please correct. Some other very minor corrections are reported in the attached file.

I recommend publication of the work in the present forma, after these very minor corrections.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

1, The very interesting historical use of fishskins could be presented a bit more-- and especially to include at least one photo of an historical piece/garment from a museum collection.

2. The issue of fashion-- is mentioned but not really discussed-- perhaps provide some example of HOW this material is integrated into a contemporary fashion piece?

3. 'Tanning" and 'fish leather vs fish skins"    Should describe what is the tanning process (ie line 124 it is said that this was done prior to the dyeing but is not explained.) Clarify what is meant by leather vs skin?

4. Sourcing the skins -- Also where skins are sourced-- fishing industry? seems that this provides an interesting recycling of something generally thrown away-- so a rather important component of the use. Could discuss briefly as a positive aspect of the potential application.

4.THere is no mention of testing for light fastness of the dyed material. Important for 'fashion' applications.
