Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The author of this article proposes a method based on UVLM to predict rotor icing and calculate the required anti icing heat load. This article has strong practical theoretical significance, but there are still some shortcomings in the article. The author can make modifications.

1.This article proposes a viscous coupling algorithm based on a modified α-method incorporates viscous data into the originally inviscid calculations of the UVLM. How is the author's coupling weight determined?

2.How were the experimental environments determined in the relevant experimental verifications set up in the article?

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Excellent paper. Very few minor comments for improvement:

- The paper is a bit on the long side, but very detailed. For example, the details on UVLM could be shorter (well accepted method).

- L120: Abbreviations not explained

- Would it be possible to indicate the heating strip geometry and location on the blade?

- L640-645 : missing paragraph?

-Reference list: Typos (ie: L750, %), or L800 missing the journal title.

Title: UAV Rotors: A Preliminary Approach Towards Icing Modeling 2 Using the Unsteady Vortex Lattice Method

This paper investigates a reduced order modeling technique based on the Unsteady Vortex Lattice Method (UVLM) to predict rotor icing and calculate the required anti-icing heat loads. The paper is very interesting, especially because of the experimental results. The reviewer has a few comments regarding this paper as follows.

1) I strongly recommend the authors to not include a) or b) in front of the figure. These subfigures index can be better represented in the captions.

2) The authors must check the equations and their coefficients. All variables must be defined right after the corresponding equation. There are several coefficients/variables that are not defined after the equation.

3) Is this approach suitable for real environment ??

4) In the Results section, there is no picture/diagram of the chamber used for the experimental tests. In addition, the experimental equipment must be clearly defined for replication of further works.
