Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

·         The present MS provide a critical analysis of impacts of the dynamics of atmospheric temperature on aquaculture hatchery performance. It is very profound in identifying bottlenecks that the rise in temperature has on reproductive biology of fishes and ultimately the changes in productions levels of fingerings for aquaculture. Therefore, the study is novel and informative as it directly responds to core areas of the global sustainable development goals. (SDGs).

·         Title

The title is misleading since it is not directly informing the audience the aim of the study. The word Fish hatcheries alone are a facility that is used to host brood stock. Brood stock is the one that produce. I suggest you write as follows: performance of fish hatcheries or the impact on seed /fingering production in fish hatcheries. Thus, succinctly telling us that you are looking at production level in quantity of seed/fry/fingering.

·         Introduction

It is important to highlight the most economically fish species commonly cultured in Bangladesh and concentrate on their fingering production efficiency. and provide brief description of their reproductive biology touching on their temperature and other environmental cues for breeding.

·         Methods

Please indicate the sampling method used to identify potential fish hatchery operators and interviewees.

·         Conclusions

Line 422-423: According to hatchery owners, the mitigation practices 422 discussed in this study have a positive impact on hatchery seed production

Comment: I find this statement hanging and presumptive without evidence. You are concluding based on mitigation measures proposed in the current study whose impact on performance have not been tested.

This is a very good paper, and should be highly valuable to the aquaculture industry. The authors provide an excellent summary of the damage climate change does to fish rearing. They then collect opinions and judgments of this process, by operators of fish hatcheries in northern Bangladesh, a region of many fish-rearing ponds. The operators provide details about their mitigation strategies and the success of those. This is extremely valuable information, since it was gathered from a sample that the authors found to be well-educated and experienced (typically about ten years as operators). The operators are thus highly qualified from both background and experience to provide valuable local information.

The paper is well written and notably free from errors (I could not even find a typo). It fits with my brief study of Bangladesh pond-rearing of fish and my much greater knowledge of Chinese aquaculture.

The MS is ruled by a very interest idea. However, while it supported by three datasets (social-economics, risks and strategies of risks mitigation), their analysis remains descriptive, loosing valuable information regarding the relationships among  the datasets.
A framework of analysis is avaliable by a  recent paper (DOI:10.2478/oandhs-2021-0039).

I think that the MS at the present version must be rejected and the authors  to  resubmit it after an upgrated analysis of their data.

Round 2

Reviewer 3 Report

The MS is ruled by a very interest idea. However, I think that the MS could be upgraded, but after the authors response seems that this is out of  the view of them. On the other hand,  the MS at this version has  significant scientific value and I propose it for publication.
