The Role of LEM in Mine Slope Safety: A Pre- and Post-Blast Perspective
Abstract
1. Introduction
2. Geographical and Geological Setting
2.1. Geographical Setting
2.2. Geological Setting
- Clastic sedimentary rocks, including sandstone, claystone, and siltstone, are the dominant components of these formations, formed in a deltaic to fluvial deposition environment.
- Coal: This formation is notable for its relatively thick coal seam, formed over periods of geological time as organic materials accumulated in a swampy environment.
- Minor volcanic units: Small layers of volcanic rock are deposited during volcanic eruptions.
- Sandstone: The sandstone in this area ranges from fine to coarse and is primarily composed of quartz. Clay minerals indicate prior weathering activities, and ancient river currents influenced the sedimentation patterns observed in the rock strata.
- Coal: The Ombilin Formation contains sub-bituminous to bituminous coal with medium to high carbon content. These coals exhibit good calorific values, as demonstrated by proximal and ultimate analyses, which are crucial for meeting energy sector demands.
- Siltstone: The varying thicknesses of siltstone strata, which serve as overburden rocks, are critical to mine stability and the risk of landslides.
