Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

It is a well written manuscript. I have annotated the manuscript with my comments. The authors conducted a in-depth study on Trichoderma and a major advance of the Trichoderma studies.

My only concern is that the authors should be careful about the holotypes for the new species. Designate only one specimen as holotype. Do not have two specimen sharing the same accessing number.

ITS could be used for phylogenetic analysis.

Please correct the typos in the manuscript, such as 'county' was misspelled as 'country' at a number places.

The format of references should be checked.

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript on twenty-three new species of Trichoderma submitted by Qiao et al. describes morphological and culture characteristics of these fungi and discussed the distinctions between the new species and their close relatives. The new species were collected from aquatic plants and soil in southwest China. The study significantly expands the worldwide diversity of Trichoderma. The topic of the manuscript does fit the scope of the journal well. The paper is clearly structured and well organized. There are some little problems need to be solved. I marked them on the attached manuscript. Moreover, the entire text needs to be read and corrected again by a native English speaker for proper use of correct terms, numerous typos and grammar.

  1. The etymology of Trichoderma simile seems to be some confusion.
  2. In Figure 7, change another regular CMD plate.
  3. Some latest references are needed. Such as: Zhuang WY (2020) Flora fungorum sinicorum, vol 60. Hypocreaceae. Science Press, Beijing, pp 1–225 [in Chinese], etc.
  4. Check all references.
