Consumer Perception of Food Quality and Safety in Western Balkan Countries: Evidence from Albania and Kosovo
Abstract
:1. Introduction
2. Materials and Methods
- The quality and safety of imported food is rated higher than the quality and safety of domestic food. In both countries, the import of cheese is dominated by EU countries where the food safety standards tend to be much higher (imports from non-EU countries are negligible).
- Kosovo (Prishtina) and Albania (Tirana) differ with respect to the frequency of use of cues related to food safety and quality.
- Socio-demographic variables influence the perception of food safety and quality cues.
