In a global approach about the need of paying attention to staff working with and for older people with dementia and other diseases in residential care, it is necessary to investigate their emotional well-being to provide strategies to improve their quality of life and therefore their quality of patient care. Professional caregivers of people with dementia and other diseases have specific psycho-sociological problems. They are more prone to stress which can sometimes lead to the “burnout” due to specific functions in the workplace. To define the sample was decided to compare two residential centers of two regions, Murcia and Barcelona. We proceeded to the administration of the following measuring instruments: the scale Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and an ad hoc survey conducted for professional caregivers. Finally, the results offer the possibility of carrying out programs to prevent emotional exhaustion in professional carers, as well as the possibility of designing psychoeducational programs for staff care and even future proactive and reactive interventions. Old age is an extended period of life characterized by major inter-individual differences and different life trajectories which have been synthesized in three modalities of ageing: usual, pathological and successful (Rowe and Khan, 1997). Analysis of the variables associated with these patterns and with cognitive evolution in old age has generated a large number of studies, many of which involve the analysis of learning potential or cognitive plasticity as an assessment tool which enables us to establish differences between old adults with greater precision than static assessments (Schreiber and Schneider, 2006). The present study analysed the performance of an initial sample of 312 old adults with different cognitive profiles in the AVLT-PA learning potential assessment task, with the objective of determining which components of the task may be used to classify participants most correctly, and which may be used to predict the long-term cognitive evolution of old adults. Results indicate that the most appropriate marker of the AVLT-PA task for classifying old adults and determining their cognitive evolution is the Delayed Recall measure. Full article

Currently, there are two main problems that affect the scholar atmosphere negatively, in secondary education centers: violence between students and academic underachievement. Both issues are analysed in multiple research papers where a complex relationship, between scholar violence and academic underachievement, is hold. The work presented in this paper unveils the need of a developing a tool to evaluate this complex relationship between scholar violence and academic underachievement. The tool developed is called VERA-Nivel I. This software is an augmented reality video game able not only to discover detailed information on how students interact and between who these interactions occur but also allows to mine information on their cognitive skills. The exploited concept, lent from augmented reality, in this game is the possibility to analyse the interactions with real peers and in a real context, their classroom. Concurrently to this context-aware analysis, the application is designed to reward non-violent behaviour. Vera-Nivel I is not restricted to the educational context but to any other context in which the same evaluation object is available. Full article
