Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Article title: “ Long term decarbonization planning of the transport sector considering modal shift and infrastructure construction: a case study of China” has been reviewed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

This article is comprehensive, logically organized and contains valuable information.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

-Abstract clearly presents objects methods and results.

-Scientific methods are adequately used.

-Terminology is adequate.

-Results are clearly presented .

-Conclusions are logically derived from the data presented.

-Key words are adequate.

However, there are few things need to be corrected and included in the manuscript for better understanding of carried research work to the readers.

1- In general the section of Introduction is well organized, but lacks sufficient literature review.

The introduction part should be improved further to review the relevant research and highlights the advantages of your work. Also, mention should be made of the different types of fuels. And it should be compared.

2- More literature studies should be added to the introduction section (DOIs given below).

In this paper, a multi-regional model is proposed to quantify the optimal decarbonization path of transport sector to save costs. Considering modal shift and infrastructure construction, this model regards transport sector as a whole and China is taken as a case study. some structural changes need to be considered for this paper:

The title needs to be changed to a more informative one.

Abstract needs to be re-written, background, aim, method, results, and conclusion should be presented in order.

The introduction needs reframing, in its current style, it is not consistent and informative. to do this task follow the stages of background: in which you should talk about the importance of the topic, literature: you should review the previous publications in this field, Research gaps: talk about the gaps in previous research and necessity of your own, aims: present your aims to fill the gaps of research, structure: mention the structure of your paper.

A flowchart is needed in the method section to clearly explain the stream of your methodology.

Then a discussion section is needed and you should compare your finding with other sources and compare the methods with each other.

The conclusion should be: A summary of the paper, highlights of your results and general conclusions from those findings, limitations of the research, and recommandations for future researchs.

Reviewer 3 Report

The paper with Manuscript ID processes-1797968 and Title "Long term decarbonization planning of the transport sector considering modal shift and infrastructure construction: a case study of China" is well written but recommended for minor corrections.

STRENGTHS:

The paper has good flow and organisation.

The arrangement and outline is suitable.

The referencing is good for Processes.

WEAKNESSES:

1. The paper requires minor English language editing and some proof

reading.

2. Leave Section 5 as policy implications and add section 6 Conclusion.   In section 6, reflect all the highlight of the main findings of the study. Also add the main findings of the paper and areas for future research in Section 6.

3. Check that all equations are well referenced, for those that are not original to the authors.

4. Reduce the number of paragraphs in Section 1. Make them about 3-5 paragraphs instead of having about 9 paragraphs.

5. How was the model validated?
