The paper provides a comprehensive report of a desk top research study (applying methods of narrative document analysis) with a clear theoretical basis for multi-modality linked with social semiotics.   There is a clear account of the sampling process, the analytical framework and the process of analysis.

The paper will make a distinctive contribution to knowledge specifically on the ways in which initiatives to extend STEM into early years, family and community contexts may be based on limited pedagogical strategies.

I have no improvement suggestions.

·      The manuscript does an excellent job presenting the findings from a scoping review that examines many websites and frameworks essential for understanding the diverse multimodal resources available for inclusive STEM education in early childhood.

·      The manuscript is rooted in a robust theoretical framework clearly articulated, specifically the social semiotic perspective that underscores the importance of multimodality in education.

· PRISMA methodology and narrative document analysis approach is a significant strength. This methodological rigor enhances the credibility and reliability of the findings.

·      The manuscript effectively discusses the practical implications of the findings, particularly the need for developing multimodal resources that are not only accessible but also engaging and meaningful for children.

 

Areas for Improvement

 

·      While the manuscript discusses inclusivity, it could strengthen its analysis of the representation and inclusion of diverse groups, especially underrepresented communities in STEM. A more detailed examination of how these resources address or fail to address cultural, gender and socioeconomic diversity would be beneficial.

·      The analysis of multimodal resources focuses predominantly on their presence and accessibility. A deeper critical analysis of these resources' quality and educational impact would provide more depth.

·      The manuscript could expand its suggestions for future research, particularly in exploring the the longitudinal impacts of multimodal STEM resources on children's learning outcomes, especially from children from diverse families.

·      Some parts of the manuscript might benefit from a clearer presentation of data and findings. Simplifying complex data into more digestible formats like charts or graphs could enhance readability and accessibility for a broader audience.
