Title: Modified Predictive Direct Torque Control ASIC with Multistage Hysteresis and Fuzzy Controller for a Three-Phase Induction Motor Drive

1) Consider providing a list of contributions of the manuscript.

2) In Table 1, two cases correspond to S1 (the same for S4). This selection needs to be justified.

3) Some explanations and figures are too simplistic. For instance, I do not understand the point of presenting Figure 4.

4) I understand that Tables 2-4 are from [16]. However, more details are required. It is not clear how the values of alpha in Table 4 are selected.

5) Figure 7: Why have triangular functions selected as the membership functions? Any reason? How to determine the membership values?

6) I believe that literature review could be improved. For instance, a promising approach to control induction motors (specifically, with application in wind systems) is the sliding mode technique, which is totally ignored in the submitted manuscript. Consider improving the literature review by discussing relevant publications, e.g.,:

[R1]. “Variable structure system control design method based on a differential geometric approach: Application to a wind energy conversion subsystem,” 2004. [https://doi.org/10.1049/ip-cta:20030976]

[R2]. “Analysis and detection of a wind system failure in a micro-grid”, 2016. [https://doi.org/10.1063/1.4960190]

The authors present the article entitled “Modified Predictive Direct Torque Control ASIC with Multistage Hysteresis and Fuzzy Controller for a Three-Phase Induction Motor Drive”.

This paper proposes a modified PDTC (MPDTC) ASIC with fuzzy seven-stage hysteresis and a fuzzy PID controller. Fuzzy controllers and round-off calculations can significantly improve the performance of three-phase IM drive systems.

The manuscript presents many coincidences according to the next references:

  • Guo-Ming Sung, Chun-Ting Lee, Chong-Cheng Huang, Hsiang-Yuan Hsieh. "Predictive Direct Torque Control Application-Specific Integrated Circuit with a Fuzzy Proportional–Integral–Derivative Controller and a New Round-Off Algorithm", IEEE Access, 2022
  • Chih-Ping Yu, Hsin-Kwang Wang, Guo-Ming Sung, Hong-Yuan Huang. "Modified Direct Torque Control Application-Specific Integrated Circuit with Five-Stage Fuzzy Hysteresis and a Proportional–Integral–Derivative Controller for a Three-Phase Induction Motor", 2018 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC), 2018.

The article presents the following concerns:

  • Please add a nomenclature table to define variables and acronyms
  • There are more than 50% of references of congresses. It would help if you found more references to journals JCR.
  • The literature should be updated by using up-to-date references. More than 50% of references are from more than ten years ago.
  • Line 59 can be justified with the following references: A new adaptive self-tuning Fourier coefficients algorithm for periodic torque ripple minimization in permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM); Robust speed control of permanent magnet synchronous motors using two-degrees-of-freedom control

Line 84 regarding FPGA, can be justified by considering the motor control with fpga seen in: A new methodology for a retrofitted self-tuned controller with open-source fpga; Fpga-based architecture for sensing power consumption on parabolic and trapezoidal motion profiles.

There is no original contribution or originality to this work. For this reason, it is not possible to extend my recommendation for publication.

The authors proposed a modified PDTC (MPDTC) ASIC with fuzzy seven-stage hysteresis and a fuzzy PID controller in this study. Fuzzy controllers and round-off calculations can significantly improve the performance of three-phase IM drive systems.

Although this work is technically sound, these are my observations:

1. The authors should improve their abstract. I good be a summary of the Introduction, Problem statement, Aim, Methodology, Results, and Conclusion. The introduction and Problem statement is missing in this abstract, and the arrangements of these elements are not in order.

2. The currency of the reference of this manuscript is very poor, considering the rapid advance in research and technology. The references used in the last five years are just 3 out of 21 (i.e. 14.3%). This might bring to the fall that the authors did not critical review recent previous work to determine if this work has been done recently. Authors are advised to review recent results (in literature) in the last five years (2017-date) to justify their problem statement.

3. Validate, compare, and concisely show that your results have improved compared to other recent works in literature.

4. The authors should find a way to concisely define all symbols used in Figure 1. Block diagram of the proposed MPDTC ASIC with fuzzy seven-stage hysteresis and a fuzzy PID controller for a three-phase IM drive system.  The will enhance the readers' understanding.
