Reviewer 1 Report

The focus of the paper is not clear.

The paper in some traits looks like a survey but in the authors' objectives is indicated other. Authors should better focus their goals by limiting related work to what is of interest to the paper.

Reviewer 2 Report

The paper has a good potential for being appreciated and cited and, in my opinion, it requires very little improvement.

At the end of related works, highlight in some lines what overall technical gaps are observed in existing works, that led to the design of the proposed approach. To better delineate the context and the different possible solutions, you can consider the following papers as references: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0950705121005037 and https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11042-017-4443-1.

Minor comments: Improve figures 2, 4, 7.

Reviewer 3 Report

The paper presents a review of the technical literature concerning security aspectsm in IoT systems. The paper is focused on lightweight cryptographic protocols and their hardware and firmware implementations. Application areas of such protocols and the current research challenges are finally discussed.

The  paper is absolutely well written and perfectly readable. The list of reference is complete and covers the different aspects of the security topic.

The paper is also adapt to non specialists of security.

In my opinion the paper can be published on Electronics without modifications.
