Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Really strong article!

I'd love to see some mention in the abstract of the issue of mistranslation by English translations of Luther and the author's careful, more accurate translation. This seems a key point to the overall argument. It's not just that the author's findings in Luther on gender of humans and God are unexpected; it's just as much that previous English translations have obscured those findings for English readers and really problematic views of God (as having his way with Mary) have been wrongly put forward as Luther's claims.

A couple minor considerations:

Add in dates when the Enlightenment mentality on one-sex model began to change (line 54)

In section, "Luther usurps androcentrism," consider using words other than Luther's use of more inclusive terminology is "interesting." What do these more inclusive translations tell us, exactly? How might they be valuable resources for feminists?

Author Response

I modified the manuscript according to the reviewer response on points 1 and 3 below.

I added a date with a reference for point 2.

Thank you very much for the helpful feedback!

Reviewer 2 Report

I am not a Luther scholar but I know enough to say that I like what the author has written. I believe that I have learned a lot about the one and two sex background and I found the feminist perspective to very well presented.

Author Response

Thank you for the affirmative feedback!
