Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear Author

“Azimuthal variation of the surface-wave velocity in the Philippine Sea Plate”. By Víctor Corchete.

Introduction:

The article focuses on studying the azimuthal variation of the surface-wave velocity on the Philippine Sea plate. Using the azimuthal variation, the isotropy and anisotropy of the crust, the lithosphere and the asthenosphere were analyzed.

  • Observations and comments:

1.- The presentation of this article is very special and curious since it is fundamentally based, methodologically, on a previous one by the same author with the same objective applied to another region, the Arabian Plate. The publication of that previous article validates the present one since the methodology is totally similar.

2.- Notwithstanding the above, I must point out that the reading is quite complex since in each justification of some statement it asks to refer to the already published article. It also asks excessively to refer to Supplements 1,2,3,4, 5,6,7. For a more fluid reading I would expect to make, as far as possible, a more detailed description when appropriate.

3.- Regarding the figures, do not only give the literal description in the captions of the variables involved. I would expect that in the text the behavior of the variables that lead to the conclusions raised be indicated.

4.- When lateral heterogeneity is indicated, what characterizes this heterogeneity?

5.- When referring to anisotropic crystals, a brief description would be clarified.

Conclusions: The article is coherent in its development. However, it is complex in the fluidity of its reading since it relies on a lot of information from the author's previous work and on information contained in supplementary material.

“Azimuthal variation of the surface-wave velocity in the Philippine Sea Plate”. By Víctor Corchete.

  • Observations and comments:

1.- The author has given satisfactory answers to the questions raised.

Conclusions: The article is coherent in its development. However, the complexity in its reading remains. Not because of its content, but because of the way the results are presented.

Author Response

Comment: The article is coherent in its development. However, the complexity in its reading remains. Not because of its content, but because of the way the results are presented.

Answer: In the final version of this manuscript, the results are presented in a much more extended detail, compared with the former version. A lot of new Figures and text is now included. However, the reader can get more details about the methodology in the references included in the text.
