Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This manuscript investigated the effects of BF, organic P-fertilizers, and inorganic P-fertilizers on the productivity of the current wheat crop and their residual effect on the upcoming maize crop in a wheat-maize cropping system. It was conducted by a two-year field study. This study provides the in-time data and is overall well organized and written. A minor revision is required for this manuscript before it can be published in Agriculture.

Minor comments:

Page 2: “particularly in high pH and low organic matter soils”

Low organic matter soil is not a issue of reducing P availabity, but high Ca content you then mentioned is. You may change it to “in soils with high pH and Ca content”. Reddy et al 2020 and 2021 (https://doi.org/10.1002/ecs2.3787; https://doi.org/10.1016/j.scitotenv.2020.138442) described the related mechanisms of Ca and P occlusion, and P fractions and availbity. You may consider to cite these papers.

Page 2: “according to [14]”, “according to [15]”

I will suggest change it to according to author et al. [14]

Page 6: “number of grains spike”

              Please correct the typo

Page 17 “This meant that more P was available to increase yield components and GY in our study [25].”

When pH drops, P is more available when soil has high Ca content. But if soil is high in Fe, Al, lower pH will result in less available P. I will rephrase it as “that more P was available in our study site with high Ca concent”

Page 18. In the discussion and conclusion part, I will add some sentence mention the possible environmental consequesence of applying manure as fertilizer in addition to their advantages, as some studies have show it may increase nutrient runoff and greenhouse gas emission (e.g. Sistani et al. 2009 https://doi.org/10.2134/jeq2008.0185; Hu et al., 2023 https://doi.org/10.3390/environments10020019)

The paper is well written. Some editorial changes are required.

Reviewer 2 Report

The article concerns the study of the effect of phosphorus of organic and inorganic origin, as well as biofertilizers, on the growth of wheat. The subject is very important in the context of the use of waste materials as a source of phosphorus and sustainable agriculture.

The biggest disadvantage of the article is a lot of abbreviations in the text, which makes it very difficult to understand the text. Could some abbreviations be replaced with words?

I am missing information in the introduction, why did the authors undertake this topic? What is a gap in scientific literature?

Minor notes are below:

P. 11. Table 38. There is no such table in the text.

Units should be written separately from values. Check this, please.

Figure 3. Unit at Y axis is missing.

Figure 9. The captions at X axis are not very visible.

Reviewer 3 Report

Dear appreciated Authors,

The manuscript “Improvement in wheat productivity with integrated management of beneficial microbes along with organic and inorganic phosphorus sources” was found interesting, appears to be scientifically sound and the topic gives important information to improve the wheat production using different type and combinations of P fertilizers.

Author's paper should be accepted for publication, after minor revisions, because the paper represents a significant contribution to science.

However, there are a few details which should be considered and some revisions (in Attach file) have to be made and before it can reach a publishable value.

Best regards,
