Bringing Semantics to the Vineyard: An Approach on Deep Learning-Based Vine Trunk Detection
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
- Line 18: better replace “the” with some
- Figure 1: include city and country
- Line 60: recommend avoiding strong words such as “only”
- In the introduction, you might want to refer to the following work as well.
Li, W., Fu, H., Yu, L., & Cracknell, A. (2017). Deep learning based oil palm tree detection and counting for high-resolution remote sensing images. Remote Sensing, 9(1), 22.
- Line 163: recommend rephrasing this sentence to enhance clarity
- Line 196: describe “typical”; provide more details here; do you mean the methods presented in the following sentences? If yes, try to merge the sentences or present an explicit connection for the readers
- Figure 5; mention what the green dots signify
- The paper is very interesting, easy to follow and a good contribution to the field, however, I recommend the authors to have a short discussion section (3-4 paragraphs) where they highlight their main takeaways, discuss their results with similar/recent works (is it better or worse and why; what has changed over the years), the drawbacks they faced, what to keep in mind while replicating this work, future directions for researchers in the field, etc.

Reviewer 2 Report
The article shows a logical structure and deals with a very
significant theme. The methods and results are well
explained and it parts from an exhaustive approach to previous
studies. Therefore, it is perfectly publishable
in Agriculture.
Only two recommendations:
1) It would advisable the introduction of a
location map that allows the rapid location of the territory under
study for readers who do not reside in Europe.
2) The authors should evaluate briefly these techniques in terms of costs and benefits for farmers, e.g., are the costs affordable for small/medium farmers? What are the real costs of the investment?

Reviewer 3 Report
This concrete work presents a new dataset for vineyards and DL applications. The TPUhardware used is very interesting for edge applications and the results are presented in detail.
Please correct some typos like Figure cite in the text (No Fig.)

We would like to thank the reviewer for the comments and recommendations provided.
We fixed the typos in the manuscript.
Round 2
Reviewer 1 Report
The only comment I have for the authors is: try to include 2-3 more papers in the 2nd paragraph of the discussion (i.e. compare your results with others in the field in a more detailed manner and explain the reasons why yours is better, methodologies others used and why, types of environmental settings that might have influenced the accuracy, why the authors decided to highlight only Badeka et al.'s work?, etc.).
