Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Minor revision.

1. The novelty should be discussed clearly.

2. How to make the specimens?

3. What is the standard of testing?

4. Many equations about stresses are shown.  How to compare with the empirical results?

5. What is the application of the proposed test?

Dear authors,

The paper should be revised in its entirety from the point of view of writing, and the introductory part should be improved, using also other references. More suggestions in the attached file.

Best regards.

The significance of this study is very obvious. For coal mines, there is no clear basis for the design parameters of pressure relief drilling. Most of them rely on experience. The results of the author's experiment and simulation provide a reference for the field parameter design. However, in order to make the article more perfect, the following issues need to be modified before acceptance:

1. The first letter of the keyword should be capitalized

2. For the “Introduction” section, the summary description of pressure relief drilling is not enough, especially in the use of monitoring means to evaluate design parameters. It is suggested that the authors refer to the following papers: ” 10.1016/j.measurement.2020.107696”, “10.1016/j.measurement.2020.108840”; In addition, try to separate the second paragraph. It's too long. It's better to subdivide it;

3. Some Figure numbers are marked with blue, others are not, please note;

4. I have not found the boundary conditions and the way of force application in the numerical simulation. Please check;

5. When there are two holes, there is a plastic zone similar to X shape. Why is there no such performance when there is one hole? Please briefly explain the reasons;

6. When the author determines that the plastic zone of two boreholes is connected, it should not be a specific value, but a multiple of the diameter? I am referring to the determination of the spacing of boreholes;

7. It is too long to simplify the conclusion, and there should be no specific value in the conclusion, just the conclusion;

8. Pay attention to some formats, such as spaces between numbers and units, subscripts of characters, etc. In addition, read the full text to avoid some grammatical and expression errors.

In this paper, based on the background of borehole pressure relief to prevent rock burst, the influence of borehole diameter and other parameters on pressure relief effect is studied by means of indoor test, numerical simulation and theoretical analysis, so as to provide reference for engineering time. However, the following problems still exist:

 1.In the abstract, the expression of ' strain energy ' and ' elastic strain energy ' should be unified. The elastic strain energy studied in this paper should be modified;

 2. In the last paragraph of the introduction, the article not only studies the drilling pressure relief from two aspects of rock mass strength and plastic zone. It is suggested to supplement the research contents of stress transfer and elastic strain energy in this place. This can reflect the workload and innovation of the article;

3.The font size in the diagram should be uniform. For example, the font in Figure 6 and Figure 10 is too small, and it is recommended to enlarge it appropriately;

 4.The grammatical error of ' Connect ' in Figure 12 should be consistent with ' Connection ' in Figure 11;

 5.In the conclusion, the last sentence of the third conclusion is more appropriate in the second conclusion, otherwise it is more abrupt;

 6. After the article is modified, it is accepted.
